    I feel like the biggest problem with the white Vs black dreads debate is that, whilst someone who is wearing their hair how it forms from very little maintenance to it has negative stereotypes about them e.g. being a criminal, whilst people who are white with straight hair who have to heavily manipulate their hair have positive stereotypes e.g. being well travelled, and a person of the world

  • @MM-gp9mb

    @MM-gp9mb

    Yeah that's the problem right there. Black people(Black men in particular) get stereotyped as thugs and criminals when we have dreads. The most white people get would probably be that they look like a hippie, which isn't negative at all

    Usually like your vid’s but this one was lacking, 2,000 years ago people with tighter hair actively starting grooming their hair. Look at the paintings from ancient Egypt where you can see groomed locs in portraits. White people having matts is not the same as having a loc’ed groomed hairstyle. The argument is more like the process of becoming a moth vs a butterfly, they aren’t both butterflies.

    Lmao one last comment because hearing a light skin mixed dude talking about how black people need to get themselves together is wild. So for black people to want to live an average nice life, they need to become ballers or musicians and work their asses off instead of society becoming less racist, gtf out man I’m finna unsubscribe from this bs

    After watching you make content for around 5 years, I’m still so pleased to see you making videos addressing dreadlocks for every race. It’s so annoying though that you have to make videos directed to hateful comments when there is factual information of dreadlocks being ingrained in different races of people. Don’t give up the motivation Gunther to create positive content promoting healthy locs, because a lot of us who have dreads still enjoy seeing you and the videos you make. I’m so thankful I stumbled across your page because it’s helped me along my loc journey throughout the years 🙏🏾

    I feel more so when you refer to dreads, it's in reference to free forms. Yeah, I get the perspective that it's largely semantics but all in all, the idea that dreads refers to freeform and locs refer to more well kept dreads makes sense to me. In large part, they are the same but I feel like the scenarios in which we refer to them as either or are different. Like for example, J. Cole has dreads whereas Duke Dennis has locs.

    Honestly watched this thinking I might not agree (which is fine, we’re human, we can have our own ideas, as long as we’re willing to listen and be open to others ideas) hence why I watched. And thank you Truly Thank you for being you and putting this information out there for your generation to see. I feel like most of the strife is coming in and the youth are taking some pride in a single piece of information and denoting any other truth. I appreciate that you put this out there. I have been wanting to do a video on this s as well… and honestly haven’t found the way yet (from my standpoint as a Caucasian loctician, blah blah… ) Anyway Thank you

    I agree! He really wanted to sound smart and sounds very stupid. In my opinion, locs, braids, and other styles we rock are not meant for white people or straighter hair. That’s me though, but he really tried it and failed

    No white people or lighter skin people with locs is the definition of hustling backwards . The world goes off appearances and we all know some black have struggles when it comes to growing hair so locking your hair is one of the styles we adapted especially in Jamaica (where I’m from) so when we see a lighter skin person with a clear advantage in life do something like locs their hair it’s like a smack in the face 🤷🏾‍♂️ you won’t understand unless you’re actually black

    That makes no sense… The same argument could be made that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so if the majority are doing something that is initially taboo, it will make it more main stream.

    So what about the Minoan Civilization? One of the first documented people to have dreads? These people were European?
