Can actually see the park getting a new drop or shot tower in the future. I think if they get a good 10-15 years extra from the new train on Shockwave then go for a new coaster. I think the Pirates adventure building needs to be their next focus.

So bit of insider information I got guys, they were only running the sit down side on Apocalypse because to one stand up side running would have cost them about £500,000... as it's an older drop tower, and I guess with older tech, maintenance costs were getting astronomical, the half a million quid may well have just been the tip of the iceberg - and they would have to be REALLY sure it fit in their vision of the park to spend that money. I miss it like you wouldn't believe, but from a business standpoint, it may have been a good decision (coming down to the concepts of ROI and sunk cost...) ... and they're replacing that area with what looks to be a very good coaster. Lets go back in 2024 and then make our decisions about Drayton. At least it's not Shite-on Pier Group and their killing of Lightwater Valley!!

We heard similar last year, it’s a shame though because with more adult focused events happening it’d have been good to keep one of the thrill seeker attractions.

Oh it's a shame, massive shame, but very costly to replace. I think this new coaster could be amazing though - intamin do incredible family coasters. Their quad coasters are intense as they come, Juvelen was such an awesome surprise!!@@yourexperienceguide

My only worry with the change is they'll be nothing to distinguish it from other coasters in the UK. The main criticism I have of the ride is the short track layout.

Glad Stevens being your Wingman a bit more often he’s funny and knowledgeable. I’ll miss the uniqueness of shockwave v1.0 but it’s a good move by the park.

I was lucky to get on shockwave on the 1st, especially since the board said it would be closed all day and it's a long journey since I live up in Scotland!!! btw for Steven the park with the intamin drop tower is Fraispertuis City in Jeanmanil France.👍

Great commentary chaps, we visited two weeks ago, kids loved it, fits the demographic well, though agree, what are they really aiming for. Maelstrom is the best flat ride in the UK, Period.

I think they will use Intimin for Shockwave as they are doing the other new coaster. I think their next project after the new coaster will be the pirate area, i think they will re theme the flying dutchman and accelorator into the pirate area and re open the pirate dark ride in some form.

Intamin & Drayton do have a good working relationship so it’s definitely a possibility

The more Intamin rides the better 😅

I was thinking the same thing about it being Zamperla. Its probably unlikely they could use an off the shelf train it will probably need to be custom to an extent so they'll probably want to go cheap. Just disappointed its only one train For me my first visit was 2021. I was never interested before because of its amusement park style but I have been interested since the Adventure Cove investment

Drayton was in its peak era in the 90s/2000s and didn’t really need heavy theming to be a good day out 🤩

It must be frustrating for Drayton

I’ve not visited Drayton Manor at all. I was planning to make a trip down next year but now that they’re removing the stand up trains, I wont be making the trip. Mainly down to what you say, they’re removing the attractions that appeal to thrill seekers. To me they’re turning in to a better quality light water valley. Their new coaster doesn’t massively interest me.

@@yourexperienceguide light water valley removed their more thrilling attractions. I personally think Drayton Manor are doing the same, just with better quality/purpose.

It’s a shame that The ‘OG’ Shockwave is losing its uniqueness. However, I would rather have a smooth sit down coaster (hopefully) instead of a unique stand up train that causes a huge head banger on the ride.

@@yourexperienceguide "Seats" were uncomfortable !!! Z G role is fun I really doubt if Drayton Manor would take on debt for mega sized coasters in the current economic environment. For the majority of households disposible income is going to continue to be squeezed for at least a couple of years sadly.

I prefer cyclonater at Paultons park has a better cycle too..
