Drawing Urban Greens

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Today's video is a special treat for my Patreon community, who are taking on the challenge of capturing greens this month. With this video, you get a little taster of the stuff I share on Patreon.
When you're drawing on location, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the views around you. But remember, you can make it a fun and relaxed experience for yourself. Just like in this video, where I chose a lovely bench in the park, enjoying the early evening sun, to create my art.
I even was lucky enough to have an interesting conversation with a stranger who happened to be genuinely interested in my drawing process. Together, we enjoyed the view, the pleasant weather, and the peaceful vibe in the park. Having my sketchbook in hand, and of course, my camera filming the process, might have drawn some attention, but it also led to a wonderful serendipitous moment.
In today's video, you'll see me draw an urban scene in a park with plenty of greenery and captivating architectural shapes.
To prevent myself from feeling overwhelmed, I take a step-by-step approach. I start by blocking in large shapes using brush markers, allowing myself to ease into the process of mark making and drawing on top of that foundation.
I hope watching this inspires you to pick up your pens and draw some greens as well!
Your assignment for this week is to go on location, if possible, and draw and capture some urban nature. But if that's not an option, no worries! You can draw at home, on your balcony, in the backyard, or even focus on a houseplant while including its surroundings too.
Let's all have a creative and enjoyable time drawing and connecting with the beauty of nature around us.
Don't forget to like and subscribe, and share your artwork with the community. And if you want to be part of the Patreon challenge, check out the link in the description below.
See you next week, happy drawing!

Starting with the large, general shapes and working progressively toward specific details is always a great plan! That's one of the best things about this channel, is that the fundamentals are stressed and repeated in each lesson, in a way that artists at any level of ambition or experience can get something of value!

the way you keep the picture on the page by the big colour shape at the beginning of the picture is a helpful cure to my occasional off centering and edging disappointment - forces me to stay on the page without huge labour while making for a better composition - this video was a good teaching by demo lesson! Thank you!

What is nice about this technique is that I could actually do it, I mean, lay down the big shapes, with gouache, which is my medium. And I do wish you would do more gouache demos!!!

Watercolors can be accessible too, if you choose to use a waterbrush instead of a real brush and water, for example. But for some people that’s too much of a sacrifice because of the quality of the brush, which influences the watercolor effects. I think minimizing your outdoor sketch kit is really important to make it easier on yourself, no matter what art supplies you prefer. Just take what you need and leave the rest at home.

Hey Koosje, usually I dont comment, but I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I just want to say that they helped me so much to be more playful and less focused on “mistakes” . I love your style and I learned a lot about capturing a scene and especially greens. So I just wanna say thank you for your amazing content.

For watching your videos I always grab my fave vegan choc bar (rhythm 108 creamy coconut) then after, grab the art supplies! (I like that you kept the process without music so we could just focus on your techniques ❤) Have never tried the combo of markers and colored pencils. I now have a very impressionistic child-like doodle of my baby spider plant! There's a lot of movement in it 😄 I love that freeing sense of letting go and just mark marking! And watching you draw outside somehow increases my courage to do that too! (Not today but this week!) Still also frequently do your single line blind contour thing too! You're an excellent teacher Koosje, thank you! 😊😊😊

Hi there. I like backpacks because they are easy to carry. They need to have broad shoulder straps so they are comfortable. And they need to be able to stand on their own, so the bottom part needs to be broad enough. A few months ago, I bought a really great backpack from IKEA which is very affordable and has enough compartments to put your stuff in (but not too many so you are constantly searching). Plus it has a very friendly price. The name of the backpack is Världens. I hope this helps.
