The biggest problem is party limit, I did the exact same as you; conpletely ignored her in my first run. In subsequent playthroughs, I added the "party limit begone" mod (and upped the difficulty to Tactician for balance) and my opinion of her completely came around.

Yeah, unless you are intentionally being a completionist and doing everything I feel like you end up just kinda ignoring everyone who isn’t in your main party. I don’t really think the party limit needs to be upped (maybe like a 5 person party would be nice but no more than that) but I really wish there were more opportunities for party members not currently in your party to do things and be helpful. Maybe certain quests where you could send them off to help indirectly in big fights or a quest where you need two separate teams to go do things at the same time. Or just let them go out and do things while they’re not in your party, like maybe gathering information on questlines you might’ve missed or gather resources or something.

I swear, the whole family is like a dysfunctional family going on a vacation. And Laezel did throw me off a bit because of her Gith culture. But after getting through her first questline, I was hooked. Even romanced her on my second EVIL playthrough.

Lae'Zel is an interesting character in the way that she grows. She seems really scary and mean, but the more you play with her, the more she softens.

My favourite moment is when she asked if I wanted to taste her.

*spoiler* My favorite moment of her would probably be when we meet the other Githyankis in the Mountain Pass. 'Cuz Lae'zel always spoke so highly of herself to the point of arrogance that it was a surprise to me when she got talked down to by the rider. Which in turn she acted accordingly as someone who ISN'T important by her own people. Made me feel bad for her and just showed why she wants to succeed so badly for her queen.

Been unable to get far in BG3 (thank you old ass computer) but I didn't get along with her myself. I get she's terrified and wants to get these brain parasites out as quickly as possible, but I honestly can't stand characters who are like "why are we helping these people? Caring for others is lame and stupid, in fact caring about anything other than ourselves is stupid and dumb and you're dumb for doing so!" Only reason I kept her in my party was because she very quickly became the Tank and I made her an eldritch knight and gave her magic missile, and she was one of my few solid damage dealers
