I was going to say that Stephen King's grudge against evil cars makes more sense when you know that he was severely injured in a car accident, but then I looked up the timeline and he actually wrote all 3 of those stories *before* he was hit by a van in '99. I think the cars got mad about all the shit he was talking about them and decided to take their revenge.

TBF Trucks is the one story that both Trucks and Maximum Overdrive are based on; Maximum Overdrive was just King's attempt to adapt that into a movie himself through the power of sheer unbridled cocaine, then they made another version later which was more like the book and therefore less amusingly unhinged.

As a big Cats fan since childhood I feel compelled to share that canonically cats are all supposed to have 3 names- a normal name (i.e. Alonzo, George, Demeter, Electra) and a completely unique name that no other cat has (i.e. Munkustrap, Bombalurina). The 3rd name is only known by the cat and is forever a mystery to us.

McZoomding is unironiclly such a good character. He’s giving off weird neighbors in Coraline vibes and I’m 100% here for it.

A portmanteau is two words that get both their sounds and their meanings jammed together so hard, they become a new word (that means something). So, like, "breakfast" and "lunch" becomes "brunch." "Situation" + "comedy" = "sitcom." "Costume" + "play" = "cosplay." By contrast, "smooshing two words together" would (presumably) be more like taking two words and sticking them together without abbreviation or any regard to whether they combine to refer to anything in particular. So, e.g. "Banana" + "fist" = "bananafist." "Cow" + "trumpet" = "cowtrumpet." "Dink" + "waffle" = "dinkwaffle." So, "Pokemon" is a portmanteau of "pocket" and "monster." If it was just two words smooshed together, the show/card game/etc. would be called "Pocketmonster" (which is def not as catchy).

As a kid we used to listen to Boney M in the car on road trips and I thought the songs Ma Baker and Rasputin were about actual cat criminals. Then my parents explained to me the „jazz“ meaning of the word. Later, I was in a choir for school and we sang a few songs from Cats for an Eisteddford (don‘t ask me why) and I assumed it was the same rule and McCavity was just a real human criminal of the worst kind like. „Why are we singing about this horrible man“

Fun fact: 'From a Buick 8' is a Stephen King novel about a car that kills you, but the twist is that it's not the car's fault. It has no agency, it's just a car. But the car happens to be a portal to an alien realm that is hostile to terrestrial life.

I'm unreasonably charmed by this idea of "normal anime rom-com high schooler who has a crush on this overdramatic would-be world-conquering mad scientist." I'd watch that show.

As somebody who really likes the actual stage musical (despite it being obviously very strange) and is not willing to subject themselves to the horror of the movie, I'm so glad my only connection to Cats (2019) is Drawfee bc it makes the whole thing endlessly more bearable
