It turns out, I was MEANT to draw these based on the translation, IE the name "Brachyanax thelestrephones" translates to "Little Lord Nipple Twister" - so it's safe to say not only did I do this WRONG, but I missed a wonderful opportunity... or DID I?! Smash like and comment if you want to se me do it again, properly! Also to make it up to you - here's 30% OFF my Ultimate Digital Painter's Bundle with the code 'JAZZA10'! bit.ly/jazza10

you should try to draw animals based on their medieval descriptions. Drawfee tried this and it was hilarious.
What a wonderful idea to draw animals based on their "translation" of the scientific name. Being a scientist myself, I am used to work with these species names and would have never thought about this interpretation. I really love it and would like to see more. Here are some suggestions of scientific names for the next round ;-) Cosmocampus investigatoris Jacksonaster depressum Ectyoplasia ferox Isopontonia platycheles Neostylodactylus litoralis

You are SO funny! As a science teacher, I am dying laughing over here at your attempt to dissect the Latin meaning for these names! I love your art and marvel at your talent! You are so blessed with at amazing gift. Thank you for sharing this wonderful opportunity with us!
I really love the idea of a big ox-like creature that wanders around with plants growing out of its back! It would really fit in a lot of cool settings; a bit like those swimming island guys in Subnautica, but the terrestrial version. Also I know it's probably just an accent difference but I was NOT prepared for how Jazza pronounces "jaguar"

I'm Aussie too, and NEVER have I heard anybody here pronounce 'Jaguar' in any other way than "jag-you-are".Don't get me wrong- I love Jazza; he's adorable. But ffs, JAG- YOU- ARE. Jagwire? Ugh. @@Rain_boot Really? Can I ask what country you're in/ grew up in? I've NEVER heard this pronunciation in my life ( and I've been alive for longer than I care to admit) , so I'm guessing it must be a regional thing? Sorry to have offended if this is a legit way of pronouncing 'Jaguar' where you are. It's just really strange to me, as I've simply never heard it pronounced as anything other than Jag- YOU- are! Edit: I HAVE heard people ( generally from the US) pronouncing it 'Jag-waaar' ( as in rhyming with car ). But Jagwire is def a new one to me.
Jazza dissecting the Boselaphus name literally had me laughing out loud … Laphus, like the Pokémon! 😂😂 Top shelf sciencing there!
I absolutely loved you combining the camel, lapras, headphones and vehicle. It was the perfect amount of ridiculous. I think I need more like this.

Your last one is my favorite! I'm glad you added flowers. I was yelling flowers when you were doing that one. You made a real life Pokémon that's realistic in our universe.
No way bc I was just watching your series where you draw characters based off their descriptions in their books lol- I’m not sure if you’ll read this but you’ve always been such a huge inspiration for me. Watching you’re videos is one of the main reasons I decided to continue art. :]
This was such a Drawfee episode!!! You should collab with them if you want to do a part 2 or a translation version ❤
This reminded me how badly I want another Jazza and Drawfee collab
Really fun exercise. I’m a biologist, which means I in no way knew what these animals where, but I did have some ideas of what these Mals might mean. Loved it!
Loved the process of how Jazza interpreted the name in parts
As a biology student I find it incredibly funny that Jazza obviously doesn't understand how scientific names work but he goes along with his interpretations regardless of that

Why are you guys using a dead language to name everything? It's not like Latin is a required course at Hogwarts or wherever you're getting your PhD's these days. Why not use Esperanto, or Lojban, or even Elvish? Those languages are kind of designed for naming random stuff, right? And that way you wouldn't be showing obvious favouritism for southern Europe and their colonies, and you might also stop sounding like you're trying to summon Cthulhu which could really improve your public image.

@bastian9713

@@daniel4647 I guess it's just tradition. Because they started naming everything in Latin or Greek 250 years ago means we have to do so as well. It's actually not that hard once you've learned a few key words. For example sativa/vulgaris means common, ptera means wing, pod/poda means foot/feet, dactyl means finger and so on. (Oh and if it has the prefix Eu-, that means it's the "true" or "real" kind of it's genus/family/order) I guess it would be just weird if it suddenly switches to elvish although there is no rule against it and many modern examples of scientists naming something it's just some random words translated to latin (or at least Latin sounding) and thrown together to make two "scientific sounding" Words (the first name is the genus and the second the species, by the way)
I, like many others, woild like to see you do this properly. Where you draw based on the translations.

I can imagine the Ox being a character in a action-fantasy video game.
Some epic wins in this, like the SUV camel with the inevitable subordination of nature to corporate branding, or the swamp mucus ox. Great stuff, as always! Love these drawing challenge videos, keep it up! :)
1:45 I love how he started calling it a Jag-wire instead of a Jaguar😂
I love your little Snot Ox!! :) Especially his flowers and the little flower on his tail tip!
This is honestly a great way to draw aliens for movies lol
I absolutely love these videos where he draws characters from description its cool to see how other people see different characters
Would definitely love to see more of this! I do have a couple of scientific name suggestions too Diactor bilineatus Pepsis decorata Pompilus plumbeus
This was probably the most interesting challenge yet. There are SO many different ways to interpret scientific names and get them creatively wrong lol
Jazza honestly blows my mind in each new video he uploads - keep up the fantastic work!
Based on the drawings you do, using the descriptive details given to you (and my addiction to ID criminal and investigation channel.) I would love to see you and the team do some actual Facial composite police sketches, based on Celebrities, family and friends, even Characters faces from any Disney, Marvel, DC, etc faces! (One video could have someone sitting with the photo describing the face directly, another would have the “witness” that looks at photo for about a minute and tries to recall what the character/person looked like based off memory. Think it could be fun/ competitive) Love the videos! Keep it up! @Jazza
I love your painterly style with or without line work. It's so good and inspires me every time I see it!! Also love the video idea :)
I enjoyed this. Would love to see 'Maratus volans' being drawn OR ' Merops ornatus' this one too.

I love your channel Jaza! You and your team really inspire me as a fellow artist and give me hope for the future. You guys are genuine and do awesome work, I hope things go well for y’all! ❤
I love this series when he gets prompts and just has fun with it. This is such a fun idea
This feels like the strange animals from the Dr. Dolittle novel. I would happily watch more of this.
Loved this! Scientific names are so interesting if your first language comes from Latin. It should be something like a word you still use but it has no connection whatsoever. My suggestions are: Lutra lutra or Lutrinae Okapia johnstoni Aie-aie
I think this is a great concept! Perhaps for the future you could try to draw animals based on the direct English translation of their Latin names (like mastodon meaning breast tooth)
I really enjoyed this one Jazza. I was having a really bad day and you brightened it up 100%. Thank you x
Loved this! Super fun to watch. Love that you could have fun with all the name possibilities
Love you jazza! You're the reason I'm a tattoo artist now 😊
This concept has such DrawFee vibes, so Imma say that it'd be really cool if you guys collaborated again lol Edit: Oh and a couple of these drawings, but particularly one (cough cough), would not be out of place in a DrawFee video bc it's so DrawFee-pilled

That was a really cool and unique twist on the drawing from description theme. I really enjoyed it! I've always found that the scientific names for animals were very strange and interesting and It was cool seeing how you able to break the words down into smaller characteristics to use. The butterfly was a great representation of the Loch Ness monster. 😂
This was brilliant! A lot more inclusive than your character description ones as not everyone knows all the sources you use. Plus Professor Jazza is hot 🔥

I laughed so hard, just your serious attitude in explaining all the parts of the words, like it is all so logical.
Jazz is a genius for coming up with this idea and has inspired me to find way to bring out my own imagination
I love your content and bought the brush pack. It would be nice to see how long it takes you to complete your drawing. Maybe you could add a timer or something. It would help those of us that get discouraged when our work isn't coming along as fast or give us a baseline for what we should expect to put out.
