DRAPING WITHOUT A MANNEQUIN | Recycled Bedsheet Dress
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
One of my followers on Instagram suggested I make a video draping without a dress form so here it is! I've been holding onto this thrifted bedsheet for the longest time and finally turned it into the most adorable dress. My verdict on draping without a form: I don't recommend. Would rather buy patterns and alter the design, or make a duct tape mannequin if you can't afford a professional one. But go ahead and try draping on yourself if you want haha! #sewcialdistancing #sewing #coolirpa

April: Draping on yourself is difficult, you should consider getting a dress form. Micarah Tewers: Just lay on your fabric and trace yourself. Don't overthink it

I was thinking about how Micarah does that while watching this video! I can appreciate her skills even more now, seeing all the steps and knowledge that it truly takes. Her videos are so sped up and fragmented that I never knew how much work it took until seeing this wonderfully detailed video. Definitely agree with the other comment, two greatly talented seamstresses with different styles.

I was NOT expecting to like a dress made from bedsheets as much as I like this! That peplum detail took it to another level!

I specially bought sheet material at spotlight to make little kids clothes, it’s nice fabric, nice and wide , non iron, hangs beautifully, and because of the width it’s cheap. Just be careful of the pattern on the fabric.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I've been letting the fact that I don't have a dress form keep me from practicing basic draping. I have officially run out of excuses after watching this! Thank you so much!

What a coincidence, I'm currently attempting to gain experience in making a sweetheart dress, I'm using a bed sheet and no body form! 😅 Thanks for all the tips in this video!

You can also look up tutorials for princess seams/bodice/dress. The sweet heart part is just the heart shaped neckline.

Agreed As a nurse who has seen a lot of death over the past 4 weeks, i think this is great. Thank you for being a positive reminder to keep social distancing and protecting ourselves and our families
Omg I have these sheets. I’ve had them since I was a kid. Had the whole bed set!
This is by far my favorite outfit you’ve created! So pretty!!!
Thank you so much for explaining this in a way that's easy to understand 💗 love this 1950s inspired dress you made.
I have these pillowcases in my airbnb! They are such a soft cotton and cute pattern, they make a lovely sundress!
I love the waisted ruffle &side pockets were my favorite parts! The whole design is adorable!
The face mask at the end was a sobering reminder. 😩 I’ve been sewing like crazy the past couple of weeks.

Are you making your own masks or making them to donate too? I am about to start making money with quilting cotton, pipe cleaners and furnace filters. Wish me luck 🙏
Thank you April! 💕 This is such a great video especially for those of us who are in fashion design and have to complete our assignment at home without a mannequin! I personally just flat patterned everything since that is the best way but I still found your video very helpful and entertaining ❤️
The whole making a dress from a bedsheet reminds me of the movie enchanted!

Mia Maples just did this on her channel. She is not as professional with sewing, but is fun to watch.
Omg that pattern is to DIE for!! And the cut of the dress really compliments it. Love this one. Good job, April!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, I've never seen a bed sheet look so pretty! What a beautiful dress! You are very talented! The details are great... the pleated side pockets, ties in the front and the peplum!!!!🤩
Honestly your creative ideas make sewing so fun and much easier! ♥️
Gorgeous Dress, You are a true talent. Your idea would also make a Super Cute summer top without the skirt. LOVE the pockets. I like how the stripes are going side to side while the dress stripes are up and down. Very Cute, Well Done.
I love it so much. You always make it look so easy but keep it honest at the same time. I've been watching you for a VERY long time and you've came so far. You continue to inspire so many peole every single day to do what they love! Keep it up April, you're changing lives. Stay healthy and take care.
Wow so cute. Gone with the wind movie from curtains, and now the bed sheets. Adorable !
What a gorgeous dress you made. I wish I could find sheets that pretty to make into clothes. I love that you also made a matching face mask.
That's the cutest dress! it fits you nice too and i know it's hard to do that. The pockets were a nice touch, if I make dresses like that, I'll have to keep the pocket idea in mind.
The peplum addition is amazing! The whole dress has a vintage feel, super nice!
Looks fantastic. Once again you demonstrate your talent and style.
Thanks this was so awesome! This helped me make my first ever dress out of an old bedsheet!!
*Random comment for today* : A father said to his daughter “You have graduated with honors, here is a car I bought many years ago. It is pretty old now. But before I give it to you, take it to the used car lot downtown and tell them I want to sell it and see how much they offer you for it. The daughter went to the used car lot, returned to her father and said, “They offered me $1,000 because the said it looks pretty worn out.” The father said, now “Take it to the pawn shop.” The daughter went to the pawn shop, returned to her father and said,”The pawn shop offered only $100 because it is an old car.” The father asked his daughter to go to a car club now and show them the car. The daughter then took the car to the club, returned and told her father,” Some people in the club offered $100,000 for it because it’s a Nissan Skyline R34, it's an iconic car and sought by many collectors” Now the father said this to his daughter, “The right place values you the right way,” If you are not valued, do not be angry, it means you are in the wrong place. Those who know your value are those who appreciate you......Never stay in a place where no one sees your value. Never! Anyways have a good rest of your day
I Loved it. I don't know how to sew yet. But I absolutely love watching your videos. I've been following for a while now. Love you April! ❤

Very pretty! It got spring-summery vibe. 😊
I love it specially the ruffled peplum, the pockets I could do without.
Amazing instructional. And love the thrift up with a nice printed bed sheets. My male option is overalls!!!! Thanks for the tips, April!!!
It's so cute! I love the addition of the peplum.
I just trace pattern pieces out of clothes similar to what I’m trying to make and hope for the best lol. I drape made pieces on me and just keep adjusting as I go. I want a proper dress form so bad
I love that dress 😍 wish i could do something as pretty as this. Right now I have 4 days experience with sewing- usually face masks for my family.
Would love to see you create a dress with hidden pockets on the sides.
That came out so beautiful!! You never cease to amaze. 😍

Such a cute dress!! You make the bodice look so easy it hurts to know how much practice it will take to make one so beautifully, but your creation certainly inspires me to work for it! Hoping for sewing machines to come back into stock soon so I can learn how...in the meantime, loving your videos ☺
Love it! The dress turned out beautifully!

you are amazingly talented April! keep up the good work 😊
Thanks a lot I was trying to make a princess Seam top or something out of leftover fabric but it’s so hard to adjust patterns without having a strong understanding of the technical drawings It’s so much easier to drape it on yourself and just draw on it
This was amazing! Also the final dress is so beautiful!
The pattern of the sheet makes such pretty dress omg
This is so cute and you are very skilled and creative. thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. I'm not really good at the math portion or understanding the patterns, so this helps so so much.
Such a cute vintage design!
New sub! Really clear instructions. Total beginner when it comes to dress making. Now I need to find an old bed sheet and start experimenting!
Such a pretty design!
This turned out so cute! I love the matching face mask!
That just couldn't be cuter. I love it, and your creativity. 💛
It's so perfect for spring!
Wow so pretty. Love the fabric
Wow this dress is so cute!!
Wow I'm one of the first for a change! Love your videos and I have been wondering about this as I don't have a dress form! Thanks for the videos xx
I think you are really talented! The dress is really pretty and I like the design choice you made about the peplum and the straps.
I love this so much. That dress is beautiful
Very cute. With all the prints on sheets anymore, they can be a cheap alternative to make so many things. I use to make curtains and comforters, etc from them. It was fun.

Why doesn't it work out? If the thread rips into two pieces, search for a thicker thread (more solid). What kind of fabric did you try to gather? The lighter the fabric the easier it should work.
I'm so inspired the way you handled those stripes with ease.
So stinking talented! Yet another awesome tutorial. Thank you!
The dress is sooo pretty!
Love the way you've done the straps, I'm going to use that.
