Dramatic Snowboarder Rescue Caught on GoPro Video in British Columbia

Ойын-сауық

British Columbia resident Nigel Beaupre captured GoPro video of himself rescuing a friend who was buried under a snowbank in Whistler on January 21, 2018.
In the footage, Beaupre and a fellow snowboarder, Jordan O’Connell, jump off a ridge. Beaupre lands safely, but after attempting the same jump, O’Connell is buried under a snowbank after landing. Beaupre quickly goes to dig his friend out.
“It’s not every day you have to dig your friend out of the snow to save his life,” Beaupre said in the post accompanying the footage. “It just goes to show how quick things go from having a great time to a near-tragic experience.”
Thanks to Beaupre’s assistance, O’Connell did not suffer any major injuries.

You’re also the type of person whose body might not be found until the snow melts… when you’re in the trees, there is something called tree wells. It’s where the snow doesn’t get packed in around the base of a tree. When you go over one of these spots, you will fall into a hole. These tree wells can be multiple feet deep and almost impossible to get out of unless you’re with someone. That’s why you never ski/snowboard in these areas alone. Same thing happens off the sides of cliffs, where the snow has fallen but isn’t packed down. I’ve been in multiple situations where I can’t get up when I’m in seemingly easy terrain.

Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". kzread.infoUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.

If we had fresh pow, it drew me in like a bug to a zapper. If a lift was on- I jumped on. Got yelled at a few times but would rather ask for forgiveness then beg for permission. Having the mountain to yourself on a powder day and launching off cliffs and skiing in the trees is good fun...but risky.
