I was a drama camp counselor last summer. We worked on the little mermaid for three weeks. About a week before the big night, a strain of hand foot and mouth disease RIPPED through the camp and knocked out our flounder, Eric, and scuttle in one fell swoop, and of course, I caught it too. I finished teaching choreography from quarantine through a window while the infected kids wept hysterically because they not only had to miss the show, but also had painful red blisters in their throats.

Fellow drama teacher, I have chairs in my classroom that have little holes in them. I always tell the kids, “don’t stick your fingers in them” well.. guess what happened. Not only did she get stuck, she got so stuck but was trying not to draw attention cause she knew she would get in trouble. Finally she admitted what had happened but in her effort to get free had gotten so stuck that NOTHING would get her out. I had to call the firefighters to come and free her 😂

I'm in theatre and we had a ladder that lead up backstage and down a staircase on stage and we were lined up during a rehearsal to go out and this girl just falls like a rag doll off the ladder and me and another girl caught her. She proceeded to have a seizure and when she woke up she couldn't move so we carried her to the teacher and he was like what happened and shes like I just fell. (When people have seizure sometimes they forget what happened) and so she proceeded to keep performing. I was really mad. THE SHOW MUST GO ON

I could have used a theatre teacher with as much passion as some of these people. My drama teacher loved pointing out those who were clearly not actors. I love to act, i think i can do a pretty good job, but she had a way of making me feel uncomfortable and some of us like outcasts. Which is kind of funny because theatre people already kind of have that image going on.

I have an interesting drama student story. We had just written and directed our own 1 Act plays, and my group had just performed. It was basically I caused a drunk driving accident and everyone in the car died but me, and I was in jail. We were all covered in fake blood. Face, clothes, hair, everything. The bell rang not 2 minutes after our 1 Act ended. We didn't have time to change or get the blood off us, so we were just casually walking around a high school covered in blood. Idk what was up with our chorus teacher that day, but when we asked her if we could clean up, she said no because our accompanist was coming and she didn't want any students to look like they were coming in late. Students covered in blood is fine, but coming in late isn't. Okay then. The accompanist saw us and looked horrified, understandably. We got Best In Show for that play though, so it was worth it.

My senior year of high school (2 weeks before graduation) we were doing a dinner theater show with all the choir kids and guess who just so happened to fall off the platform we were using as a stage during curtain call? Me... I got such a badly sprained ankle that I couldn't walk on it for 2 weeks (aka was using a knee scooter and wore a splint) which meant I didn't know if I was going to ACTUALLY be walking for my own graduation. Luckily my mom found me a boot I could use but maaaaan was I mad at my clumsy self for not checking my footing

Haven't watched the video yet, but I guarantee I have a worse story! One show: child falls off 12' platform, bounce off pad and right into the stage, several people get stabbed for real by fencing blades, the lead bad guy broke his ribs by falling off three stage right before opening, and the artistic director got actually stabbed, with a real (rusty!) dagger, in the gut... but played his death so well, no one noticed until he asked to be taken to hospital, after his scene ended.

It’s not funny, but I took drama back in High School. We had to do Monologues for our Mid Finals, and I had the scene from Steel Magnolia where the mother is morning her daughter and screaming “I just want to hit someone!” The day before I’m suppose to take my turn on stage, my step father passed away. It was awful. I went to school because I had to take all these Mid Finals. Imagine me, up on stage, just lost my dad, and I’m yelling “Why couldn’t it be me? I’m suppose to go first! I just want to hit some body!” I was a sobbing mess. I ended up running off the stage and crying my eyes out in the green room.

I wish I had these as drama teachers. I’m doing Mary Poppins as an ensemble (that means in a sweep, costumer, park stroller, etc.) and I hate my drama teacher. She’s sweet but I feel like I’m judged hard by her.

Drama teachers have it rough. Kids aren’t the best people. From ages 3 to 19 They can be annoying, ungrateful, disrespectful little sh*ts. Edit: I should know because I am one.
