That statement is 100% true. There's a big difference between performing abroad and having followers abroad. Shows can be organized to aim specific audience abroad for example, Sauti sol can perform in America for specifically Kenyans in America but that does not mean everyone in Holywood loves Kenyan songs worldwide. Diamond has been having collabos with big names like RickRoss but that does not mean he broke the nut. Maybe he paid these artiste to try gain international recognition of which didn't work. If this could be the fact, then songs from East Africa could be having airplay in the International media houses abroad like let's say Hollywood. I agree with Otile's statement.

I have been saying this shit for years bro. He is not wrong. Problem is that the artists that have the capacity to break the ceiling: Jones, Shinski, Sauti Sol, all choose not to actively and consistently pursue an international audience. Kama ningekua any of these artists I would sell one of my cars and pay Davido for a feature. Save up for six months and then pay Tems for another feature, save up again and pay an American rapper. Until I get eyeballs for myself out there. But its always seems like they are too proud to do this. Nyashinski kwanza ako na kiburi polite sana.

In reality, Otile Brown is the only local artist in Kenya, his name can't come before OG, Bien, Shinski, Ssavara, Pizzo the King, and many others. In addition, TZ artists are all better than him.
