    @@believeinmatter So clearly you didn't watch the interview. There was no flow. This was --almost-- the worst combination of guests at a round table At several points including the very beginning there was just several seconds of silence. She had to actually make them speak. Left to their own devices Billy Porter would have talked the whole time and everyone else's would have nodded and pretended to laugh.

But if we refused to enjoy the art of artists and performers who made shameful mistakes on principle I think that would wipe out a ton of great books, movies and art. Of course it's legitimate to feel upset about what he did and refuse to watch his performances on that basis but personally I don't judge people that way because who knows what they were going through. Imagine being a high profile actor with no anonymity to speak of, your private life on showcase 24/7, in a relationship in which you don't feel sexually fulfilled, and your life feels boring and bland. You're desperately trying to maintain appearances of perfect relationship/perfect life for the public meanwhile you're deeply dissatisfied with your life and looking for passionate, skilled sexual intimacy but can't have it at home. Can you tell I can relate to this? I personally wouldn't visit a prostitute due to risk of STDs but I am capable of great passion and sexual skill, but it goes unfulfilled because my wife is not that good in bed. Sucks.

    damo agun it is brave simply due to how brave the community of lgtbq+ they are representing and for taking the risk of facing backlash due to their heterosexuality.Don’t get me wrong I do think more lgtbq+ actors should be cast however the comment by Billy was not necessary and could be interpreted as somewhat degrading.Some of the actors playing gay roles may also not be straight themselves yet may not be open about their sexuality which is also a factor that should be considered.

When they're all talking about being Romeo, Billy Porter never really says much because he knows the difficulty in getting these leading parts as a gay black man in Hollywood. What they so casually ignore is that while they can land those parts so easily he would have to work 10x as hard to prove that he is worthy of it as much as they are. He may play the bumbling Englishman character well but in real life, Hugh is eloquent and incredibly intelligent (was a scholar at Oxford and graduated with honors). A hero in real life too as he was one of the people who exposed the extent of the UK phone-hacking scandal. Grant wired himself and recorded a former journalist who admitted that "editors had ordered journalists to engage in illegal phone tapping and had done so with the full knowledge of senior British politicians."

    .... and then Richard madden was robb-ed. Bodyguard nominated (he's 90% of the show) but not him as lead... and why drama actress had 7 slots and actor only 6 ?

  • @davidmernick7360

    @davidmernick7360

    4 жыл бұрын

    Emmys have a rule where if the sixth and seventh placed nominees are within a negligible percentage of each other to basically be the same, then they both get nominations. If Richard was 7th place, for example, the gap between whoever scored 6th (let's be real, it was probably Kit or Milo) and him was distant enough to not warrant a seventh nominee. Emmy rules are weird that way.

    I think Richard's portrayal of John Reid in Rocketman was excellent, and it's a hard character to play, he's almost universally despised (he abused Elton John, who is a very beloved figure). I'm not sure if he's straight or not, but I think he did a great job of playing up the villain part more than the gay part. Like, he played Reid as a man who happened to be gay, but who was first and foremost an absolute prick, which seemed very poignant.
