DRAKENSBERG, SOUTH AFRICA (2024) | A Travel & Hiking Guide To The Different Areas In Drakensberg
Spanning the border between South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province and the country of Lesotho, Drakensberg is a majestic mountain range. Encompassing a vast 243,000 hectares, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is made up of towering cliffs, lush forests, cascading waterfalls, rolling hills, and deep gorges. The huge area can be divided into three distinct regions: the Southern, Central, and Northern Drakensberg. Each area can be easily accessed by road, although sometimes potholes can make driving times slower compared to other parts of South Africa. All three Drakensberg regions offer a wide range of activities and accommodation options. In this video, we’ll cover each of the Drakensberg areas and unveil our favorite hiking trails and activities.

'A must', until he mentioned poisonous snakes 🐍 😒 😤, I'm not a fan of those guys.
Nice to see the remaining possibilities. We only got to do the Amphitheater hike ourselves. It was great, but also scary to climb those ladders in strong wind.

@@worldwildhearts They sure did. At one point hiking up a gust even threw us off balance shortly. Still brilliant view from the top. A bit sad we only had 2 days in the area.

Yes it’s definitely possible! The summer months (Late October to Early March) are generally very warm and pleasant, the mountains are lush and green, and colours can be particularly vibrant, especially after rains. November is probably the best time for flora lovers. However, the summer is the rainy season, and sudden storms are frequent. During the summer, it’s recommended that you start out early, and take advantage of the generally good weather before the heat builds up and storms start appearing (anytime from late morning onwards). There are some campgrounds in the mountains so definitely possible
