"I may as well say at the outset that I am biased toward this movie. I liked westerns as a teenager and I liked westerns movies in color with recognizable actors. As an older fellow I now like mostly black and white movies westerns included. I stumbled on the production company filming this movie while on vacation with my folks in southern Utah desert in the summer of 1956. Iwas able to wander around the location and Stayed to watch about four takes of a two shot involving Okeefe and Cabot. After waiting eight months I saw the movie and a local theater and found the plot to be far more complex than most. This is not a run-of-the-mill 50s, one hero type, Western. I recommend it to anyone who likes some character development and appreciates the product of some of the good talents offered by Hollywood both in front of and behind the camera. Good old movie. Heard Ben Johnson give the intro and hoped he was in it. Alas. And who doesn't enjoy a good cat fight now and then. Jack Elam's a big plus.

Not done watching yet, but it's a decent old movie. Paused to look up info about the theme music. It's a lovely tune that I have heard played in a number of other westerns. I wanted to see a list of them, but no luck. I only managed to find the name of the music producer and then a list of movies that he did music for. His name is Paul Dunlap or Dunlop. Anyway, time to get back to the movie. Brief update: The song is Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie. The producer didn't write it, but may have done the music arrangement and orchestration for the movie. Still couldn't get a list of other movies that used this tune though, even with the help of using the correct name for the search.

One of the best. The film makers in that era made the women look too clean. They would be sweaty, hair in a mess etc.,

Surviving a rain of lead from machine guns/ rifles/ pistols for a horse is miracle. Only the riders were hurt and that's a hard fact to digest. That's a weak portrayal for a saga.( Machine guns aren't truly built for sure aim. Their aims are never near perfect. It's just a simultaneous in-built spit fire machine for assualt). These oldies are much more entertaining, and that I accept. I loved them all. But, perhaps if they could make it seem a little, more realistic, that would be awesome - -- Pistols and rifles have practically good aim. But, it could easily go wrong once you lost your concentration. N/b: Never meant to hurt those on screen. Just stating the facts.
