Genuinely kinda sad to see this series end, not because the writing or characters were any good (save for Alex of course, we stan the queen) but because I always have looked forward to watching you and Audrie's reviews of it. You know why not make Jormungndr a gigantic eel, an actual eel. Eels have long established to be detested by the dragons and the one of the very few non draconic creatures that posed any threat to any main character as seen in the first episodes of Race to the Edge. Heck why not bulid on that further by having eels in the hidden world and are in a evolutionary arms race with the dragons. As a result eels there are just as varied as the dragons, coming in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Actually Raisor in the 2010 short film Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon Gobber told a story that involved him being saved by Thor which means gods do exist in this universe since the first film. What if Jormungandr wasn’t a dragon at all? It could be some other reptile from a section of the hidden world where dragons don’t live, but the creatures that live alongside it are gigantic, causing Jormungandr’s immense size (I’m imagining this one as longer than the bewilderbeast) so when the characters try and use the same tricks the Vikings used to train or pacify dragons, nothing ends up working.

I wouldn't even include the Jörmungandr as the final threat. Instead, it would be a tortured slave by a bunch of neo-Nazi scientists. So here's how it would go: During World War II, a bunch of Nazis went into a cave in Argentina that led to the Dark Realm. They found the Jörmungandr when it was sleeping, and injected the creature with nanobots. They made a special taser staff that bangs on the ground, triggering the nanobots to electrocute its insides whenever the dragon tries to resist them. These operations continue even unto the present day, as there are multiple Jörmungandrs enslaved by the Nazis. These Nazis built a base inside the Dark Realm, and imprisoned it in a giant cage to make it starve, as a test to see if it could submit to them willingly. So here, it's not Hiccup who imprisons the Jörmungandr; it's Nazis. The final threat, however, is not the Nazis; they're only the villains of one season. Instead, it's the leader of Rakke Corp's massive rival company who wants to wipe out humanity with his futuristic technology, and has a chrome suit that can deflect attacks. His plan is to unleash a massive swathe of drones upon the world to exterminate the human race so dragons would be the ruling species.

Heck, I would accept explaination that World Serpent had some ability to devour even the biggest dragons, absorbing their powers or some shit and he devoured so many dragons to the point of being massive Serpent so that would be the reason to keep him locked away and due to him having miles worth of his body, he would consume himself in the act of surviving (explaining why he is SO GODDAMN SMALL IN THE SHOW) or something like that this 2 minute worth of thinking still sounds better than what they did

Ya know, when I saw Audrie's video on the first season of this show. From that point forward it became my personal headcanon Alex was the true descendant of Hiccup and Astrid. And Tom figured out it was Alex but never told anyone. Oh and Alex is an aroace queen you can not convince me otherwise.

This fucking TV series is 8 seasons of a greedy corporate company trying to squeeze that last ounce of curdled milk from their last core franchise And they just stopped giving all fucks about what made HTTYD a great franchise. From the shitty character dynamics to the botched continuity, to the fugly dragon designs, to the environment making ZERO SENSE The only enjoyment I got from this series was either ironic, or from fucking Nutsaw You know you're bad when a 3 minute animated meme parody of HTTYD is more respectful to the original franchise than a fuckin 8 season TV show seriously. check out Cas's animation of HTTYD. it's a much better use of your time

For me, the HTTYD franchise took a serious blow when the writers decided to rush to books ending in HTTYD 3 with no setup for it and the final message of the franchise was "Give up fighting for what you believe and is right". I dislike such nihilistic endings. I grew up with this franchise as HTTYD1 characters were at similar ages as I was back then. So to see this franchise derail so much with potential final nail in the coffin if they mess the live-action up, is upsetting.

What I could see at best considering the premise of HTTYD 3 is that some dragons go to Hidden World due to overpopulation, and some stay at the New Berk. Toothless keeps an eye on the matters there, taking responsibility for the alpha but he'd definitely visit Hiccup regularly and vice versa.

@@GojiraFan-in9oo Agreed. It has flawed story since the beginning because the writers set the ending first and then bent every character and the rest of the story to reach it. So in a way characters didn't drive the plot. It was also pretty annoying to see the writers had no damn clue what to do with the rest of the riders even though they figured that out in RTTE or in HTTYD2.

It's almost poetic in a way. The first How to Train your Dragon had Hiccup attempting to live up to the expectations of his father and his community, trying to be what other people wanted him to be. It's only during the coliseum battle with the Monsters-Nightmare, does he officially decide that he is no longer going to be what other people want him to be, and tries to make piece with the dragon. Meanwhile, we have June immediately put a label onto Tom and he doesn't decide to chart his own path like Hiccup did all those years ago. In a weird way, I'm kinda glad that Tom is "not like Hiccup," despite how he has been portrayed in the series, because comparing this cringy and complacent moron of a character to one of the greatest protagonists in all of DreamWorks animation is beyond insulting.

An idea just, off the top of my head, that could maybe salvage the concept of Dragoncite and why Hiccup had to trap Jörmungandr for thousands of years. So let’s say the Dragoncite, instead of just producing oxygen, had a power that was very clearly mystical in nature, which would now explain why the scientists weren’t able to make that much progress in researching it. What the Dragoncite actually does is that it increases a dragon’s strength, speed, and durability to great degrees, far surpassing the natural capabilities of a dragon’s species, but it had the drawback of making the dragon go insane basically? (It wouldn’t be the first time that something like this was introduced into the series but the nine realms already copies other things from previous series so much that I don’t care) What if throughout the series we had seen a few dragons in the nine realms that were corrupted by clusters Dragoncite that would seemingly randomly activate and hit a dragon, causing them to go haywire and the cast having to stop it. We find out that that’s what happened to Jörmungandr and it was just so powerful that it was not only destroying the environment in the nine realms and could pose a threat to surface if it ever arose, but it was also able to overpower Hiccup and Toothless, to the point where killing it wasn’t an option either. And so Hiccup had no choice but trap Jörmungandr so that no one else was hurt. We could then also later find out that it was the Nidhogg biting onto the main Dragoncite cluster in Yggdrasil that was causing the Dragoncite clusters in the other realms to activate. I wouldn’t say that this would be the best idea that the show could’ve gone for, but I at least think it’s more interesting than what they did.

That ending shot is Dark, who ends there show with there main charachters dying in a halicopter crash And the world and story just kinda resets as if nothing happend Reminds me of trollhunters

we all know the reason sledkin died, they had no idea what to do with her if she survived so best clear out that issue with the one death they were going to get and one theory i'd seen hopping around is that the "cage" was a closed off branch of the realms and regardless of if the dragon is over 1300 years old it wouldn't have starved to death

Which is incredibly dubious considering how awful relationships like this set bad examples for kids. Like, maybe he wasn't basing the relationship on one from school. Didn’t the movies and even riders of berk disapprove of the “throwing away urself to become a legend” did they even watch the shows and movies?

I used to thought that there would be a good reason why Hiccup would trap Jorgunheim but it’s not even that dangerous. The Purple Death would’ve been a VERY much better Jorgunheim. But the Purple Death would be TOO good for this show and the animators could not animate that majestic beast.

Even as someone that's never seen this show, I'm glad you won't have to deal with it anymore. Also, those animatics at the end were beautiful.

1:00:01 FUN FACT: this scene might have been inspired by one of the httyd books called How to ride a dragon’s storm. At the end of the book he’s fighting a madman with an insane obsession to kill him on top of a mast on a sinking ship being attacked by a massive sea dragon a few hundred metres from the beaches of Americaduring one of Thors brutal storms (yes it’s in the book) and he baits his enemies axe at just the right time for a thunderbolt to catch the axe and electrocute the guy which one him the fight. Though apparently the guy survives in a throwaway line in the final book which is disappointing.

At long last! The journey is nearly complete. It's been quite a ride. Mostly a mediocre one, but still. I'm glad you can finally put this series behind you.

Actually, Sledkin's death was a rip off from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where one of Indy's uhm, don't know how to describe her... evil one night stand? Nevermind, she falls into a ravine, Indy grabs her hand, but instead of helping him safe her, she tries to grab an artifact that also fell into the ravine and lays on a small ledge. Because she is more greedy to get the artifact, instead of holding onto Indy who tries to safe her, he loses the grip on her hand and she falls to her death.

A video series basically rework this from the ground up would be awesome. In fact let me add my two cents with the setting. - The crevice is a recent phenomenon caused by strange seismic activity. The scare the opening cause was a huge news sensation and so a science team was set up to study it. - The base was nothing special at first however the discovery of unique Norse artifacts, strange readings, and large deposits of conventional and unknown metals led the base to become akin to a small town similar to Los Alamos. - The staff would be made up of scientists of various fields from geology and archeology with others firming security and corporate leadership. - Olivia Kulluersen is a well renowned archeologist specifically on the Viking age. That's what I have so far.

I know I said this already but I am gonna miss this show, as strange and bizarre as it sounds. Because it taught me how NOT to construct a story, write characters, build a world from scratch and, above all else, how to design dragons. I actually have started redesigning dragons from this show and created new ones for my fan fiction. I might post them on Twitter or Instagram when I'm eventually done with them.

I think the Skrill being "Thor's Dragon" would have made a lot more sense than a NightLight (NF don't shoot lightning, thats just a random thing they decided to add in the 3rd movie, and Toothless doesn't shoot lightning anyway), since it's ACTUALLY a ligtning dragon who seems to be near immortal as he can live for centuries without eating while stuck in ice and being repelled by water, where the Snake lives... 1:02:50

Honestly if they wanted to end on a high note (somehow), they could've shown the "World Serpent" eating dragons and growing larger with every dragon consumed. Make it an actual threat, make it a Tidal class, make it live up to the name WORLD SERPENT! Now to wait for Audrie's review of this season Also, random thing for those to ponder. What would this series have been like if it chose to take a darker turn? Redesigned the characters? Rewrote the series and actually did a good job?

I honestly think that they could have made the world serpent longer and faster, to make it clear that this thing is caoable of challenging the bigger dragons by outspeeding them and using it's poison breath to paralyze them and start ripping their flesh with it's teeth, this would at least justify how small it is, by being smaller it is harder for the bigger dragons to hit, and by being faster it makes it harder to aim, they had the perfect formula right there, but they chose to make it just a big lame snake

The scene where the background goes away for a sec just easily reminds me of how I make my comics. Lol

Honestly I still think Jormungandr should’ve been some other type of giant reptile instead of a dragon. Maybe it could’ve been from the deepest reaches of the hidden world and the reason it was even in the other realms could be because the opening of the fissure weakened the barrier between its natural range and the dragon’s habitats. How cool would it have been to see foreshadowing of Jormungandr’s rise before hand? Maybe it starts with just a few large cracks in the stone in the fissure, a few dead plants surrounding them, followed by deep hissing noises coming from the cracks in the middle seasons and then the sheer movement of Jormungandr causing tremors before it finally breaks through the wall separating it from the dragons. Also, what if there was some reveal where the characters are looking through Hiccup’s notes of the creatures in the hidden world, mostly dragons but a few others too, and Jormungandr’s page was nearly blank like the night fury’s page in the original book of dragons.

Can we just acknowledge that freaking LEGO NINJAGO made a better world ending snake plot line? And wasn't even Norse mythology based?!?!?! The Great Devourer was an actual threat and was fucking huge, and it required Garmadon to freaking attack its weak spot with 4 of some of the most powerful weapons in creation to beat it? This freaking maggot of a dragon is a joke.

This might be a weird idea, but I was kinda expecting the meteor to be carrying some kind of alien dragon egg. I know it would be weird to have aliens in a show about dragons, but i don’t think it would be any weirder then how the series approaches dragons in a realistic manor. My idea would be that the alien dragon would be Jormangandr (not the actual mythological monster by the by), it’s a legit invasive species that not only will threaten the dragons world, but also the planet as it’ll grow more and more the longer it lives until it eventually destroys everything around it. Maybe it’s kinda a dumb idea but it’s more effort I put into the note than the writers did.

When I was almost 5 years old I watched how to train your dragon for the first time in a theater and I loved it. I also watched the riders of berk and defenders of berk when they were on cartoon network and enjoyed them. I then watched the second movie with my family and a family friend and I didn't like it as much as the first one but I loved it and I watched race to the egde when it came to Netflix I really enjoyed it. And when I learned that how to train your dragon the hidden world was going to be the final movie I was upset but I knew that it had to end so I watched it in a theater and I thought it was a beautiful end to the franchise and the Christmas special was decent. But when I heard that dragons the nine realms was announced I thought it was fake and I didn't want to know more about it because like I said I thought it was fake but when the first trailer was out I thought eh I might check it out so I watched the first episode on Hulu the day it premiered and I didn't like it then I watched 2 episodes with my mother and sister and they said that they didn't like it and finished it myself so save them the torture and then season 2 came out I watched the entire season the morning of premiere and I hated it more than the last one and then I discovered your channel though your videos on the show and audries too and season 3 was released and I was bored out of my mind and season 4 I hated the most for reasonable things and season 5 I was mostly bored except for some parts that made me laugh unintentionally and season 6 was released I was still bored and season 7 I was more disappointed and filled me more with rage because of jun and jormunger. When I learned that season 8 was the final season I was happy that it was finally ending and when I watched that the flashback that hiccup trapped jormunger it remained me of a line nostalgia critic said in his review for the Neverending story 3 warning it contains very nasty language: this is not jumping the shark no THIS IS JUMPING THE SHARK COMING BACK SHOOTING IT IN THE BALLS RAPING IT EATING ITS FLESH CONSUMING ITS SOUL AND HANGING ITS HEAD ON THE WALL AND THEN DOING THE SAME THING TO 12 MORE FUCKING SHARKS JUST TO BE SAFE and not only that line sums up that scene up perfectly but it sums up the whole show in a nutshell. When the show ended I was satisfied because this godawful show is finally over and I consider dragons the nine realms to be the worst TV series I have ever seen and the show that originality had that title was American Housewife a show that has it's characters who are dumbasses but I felt something when watching it when it comes to dragons the nine realms other than alex who is best girl and jun and her brother making me angry and moments that made me laugh unintentionally and moments that ruined my childhood I felt nothing if a how to train your dragon fan reads this and this video stay far away from this show it ruins everything that made the original movies and tv series soo good and the first movie is one of my favorite movies of all time and this show broke me. If you want to watch a good DreamWorks show that is not related to how to train your dragon I recommend she ra and the princesses of power,kipo and the age of wonderbeasts,jurassic world camp cretaceous and the adventures of rocky and bullwinkle they are better animated and have better characters that are likable,relatable and even funny and if you want to watch a independent animation project I would recommend kyoryu,talon,sauria,dinosaur empire,forgotten bloodlines agate,godspeed,lackadaisy,the amazing digital Circus,atlas and the stars,the lovers and hazbin hotel watch those and raisor good luck

Talk about finding new respect for race to the edge. I mean, don’t get me wrong. It is still a good show, but if I had known that this is what we would have gotten in its place, I would have immediately called Race to the Edge one of the greatest animated shows of all time.

Also note how they gave it a VERY similar head shape to Jormungandr from GoW 4/5. Except less epic realm serpent and more....derp noodle.

Oh trust me, I have seen some shit in that show….

It literally just occurred to me. Why couldn’t they have just had Hiccup defeat Jormangundr and have this one be its offspring or something that he didn’t notice it laid an egg. Boom! Just solved two major problems, and made a legacy rivalry continues thingy. If I write better with barely any effort, let that speak for this show

At least the Star Wars sequals tried to appeal to Star Wars fans by having it take place after the originals

No, they didn't; they tried to appeal to SJWs and feminists who thought their left-wing politics were more important than making good stories. The sequel trilogy was made as a blatant ripoff of the original trilogy, it character-assassinated Luke Skywalker and Han Solo (Luke would never have tried to kill Ben in his sleep after RotJ where he saved Vader from the dark side of the Force, Han would've never gone back to smuggling after TESB where he went to find Luke in the dangerous icy wilderness and remained with him until they were found), and it elevates the female protagonists as more important than and more superior to the male protagonists. It's main character, Rey, is so base-breaking that people have been debating on whether or not she qualifies as a Mary Sue. It's filled with massive internal inconsistency problems, Finn is reduced to such a background character to the point the most memorable thing about him in _The Rise of Skywalker_ is him screaming "Rey!" a lot of times, and Palpatine's return and him getting killed by Rey completely destroys Anakin's fulfilling his role as the Chosen One because he didn't destroy the Sith. Kathleen Kennedy even disregarded George Lucas's vision of the _Star Wars_ sequel trilogy to make her own vision of the sequel trilogy come to life, where it's filled with female-empowerment and man-degredation instead of actual good storytelling. She didn't give a crap about what the fans wanted to see, and the two directors of the sequel trilogy (JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson) had a very back-and-forth attitude on how to do the sequel trilogy because they had no plan. An example of this is Rey's origin story; _The Last Jedi_ states that Rey is a Nobody while _The Rise of Skywalker_ states that she's a Palpatine. Rian Johnson was also obsessed with subverting the expectations of the audience and dividing half of the audience, and did not care about making _The Last Jedi_ a good movie nor about what the fans wanted to see.

I mean you Hiccup might not of had a enough firepower to kill the World Serpent. It was pretty durable and it was literally toxic to be around literally just being around it would slowly kill you. My guess is Hiccup couldn't kill it without taking heavy damage.

The 'Tom is an Astrid' was very insulting and senseless because in what way is Tom similar to Astrid? The character who is most similar to Astrid is Alex as she has little to no tolerance for nonsense, just like Astrid. And she's not Astrid's descendant. Tom, though an extreme discount version, behaves exactly like Hiccup through and through. So what was that?

I always thought that the reason yourmengunder managed to survive was that he was MUCH LARGER at some point, like the more he eats the more he grows. So perhaps when hd was stuck in the cage, he shrunk.

Alright now that this is over, can we talk about the elephant in the room? Like the live action HTTYD? I know everyone knows the main cast… but wth are the dragons going to look like?

Here me out here cus i can pitch a better idea for Jörmungandr that fits in to the plot better that this bullshit. First of all Jörmungandr is like a blue whale, a huge sleeping dragon that is a filter feeder but instead of getting nutrients from its mouth it kind of absorbs nutrients through its skin like some amphibians can breath through there skin and uses the earths core as a big heat source to keep warm. Also this thing is huge like when animating it you only see body parts and the size of one of its teeth dwarf the snowtorcher The excess crystalises and grows on its scales as dragonsite which it sheds and in my headcannon dragonsite is a very nutrient dence material that enable the ecosystems of the realms to sustain itself, thats why its so important. Hiccup discovers Jörmungandr and seeing how it is peacefully sleeping and if it is disrupted could distroy the world with its movements alone, doesn't want to harm it so what he does is that he builds procautions to keep people out rather than keeping it in as to not wake it, leaving a message at the end of the book of dragons to warn people of it. This can be used to expain some of the shitty plotholes in this pincushion of a story. - the ravine, Jörmungandr could have shifted in its sleep causing an eathquake, opening up the hidden world - buzzsaw, he saw it the book of dragons and cus he doesn't know the runes goes on a hunt for to become the dragon kings by trying to slay it but by seeing how it is way too big and how it is harmless stops or something. He can also be the hint to finding the page. - nimary seeing the opportunity of gaining a better profit from mining and selling dragonsite rather than the dragons as a nutrient ritch fertizer that companies would be paying out of the nose for, could try to start mining it and so when she relises she can use Jörmungandr to exploit the animal she disturbes it creates a threat that the riders have to solve by stopping nemari by in time before she wakes Jörmungandr. In also to end the story the humans have to leave to prevent this from ever getting out again. Sorry for the long ass comment I just had to get this out of my head.

I first discovered Dragons: The Nine Realms back when Season 3 was released and that was also when I first discovered your’s and Audrie’s channels. It’s been great watching you guys review this show and tear it apart for being an insult to the original franchise. It really has been a wild ride. And I guess I’ll be seeing you guys next year when the live-action HTTYD remake comes out.

So Raisor you ever thought of doing Camp Cretaceous especially since it's sequel show is coming out this year? Trust me you would have a much more enjoyable time even with the drag that is season 4.

Here's why the "It's for kids" argument is worse than one might think: it's a cheap dismissal of criticism made by people who don't want the piece of media they're a fan of to be judged negatively. It's not going to matter what the age gating or target demographic is if the work itself is garbage. If you want to argue that a kid's movie is bad because it's made for kids, then you can also argue that an X-rated movie is good because it's made for adults, even though X-rated movies are complete shit because of their promotion of pornography. Ultimately, making that whole argument not only dismissive, but also gross, filthy, and horrifying.

The Skrill •Dagur wanted to use it for the destruction of Berk. •The Dragon Hunters Deathsong •It was trying to eat other dragons and his friends. But in the end they both turned out good dragons. But both of them weren't left there to starve to death. He trapped the Deathsong knowing that It would have escaped and the Skrill could survive years trapped in the ice, and in the end he frees it because he would be just like the dragon hunters. He would never let a dragon suffer, and, if It was so dangerous, he would have killed it

There is no show after httyd 3... and there is no war in Ba Sing Se.
