Fun fact: David Tennant actually voiced the commander of the army and the dragon
Fun little cameo here. The female soldier at the camp in the start, the one who gets absolutely *wrecked*, is voiced by Felicia Day. She's one of the ones partially responsible for Critical Role existing in the first place. Back when it was just the players having a private home game with each other on their free time, Ashley Johnson (Pike's player) was at a party with Felicia and both being huge nerds the two naturally started talking about D&D. Ashley was telling Felicia about their wacky adventures in Matt's game and Felicia had an idea. She had been looking into getting a D&D livestream going for her KZread channel Geek and Sundry and asked Ashley to pass on her invite to the rest to have them all play D&D live on stream. The group agreed and decided to continue their current campaign as part of the stream rather than start fresh as they were really getting into the events unfolding, and thus Critical Role was born with the first episode picking up mid adventure. Felicia would later appear in a couple of episodes as a guest and got a cameo here as a little nod and thanks to her being the one that gave them their shot. Yeah, Gilmore is a favorite NPC from the campaign, to both the fandom and players alike. His shop here is just *full* of fun easter eggs. Several nods to Campaign 2 characters, the infamous smut book "Tusk Love" that becomes a recurring joke throughout the campaign, and even a real world D&D artifact: the last sandal of Gary Gygax, creator of the game. He used to work as a shoe maker and when he quit, he had only made one sandal of the pair he was working on. Few things are as D&D as the party coming across a locked door and throwing everything they have at it to try and open it, when they could just have the rogue do it instead. Grog's line for the finisher, "I would like to rage!" is actually what his player Travis Willingham says during battles, using his Barbarian Rage ability for bonuses and such. It became such an iconic catchphrase for him that in the other campaigns when some of the others play barbarians, they'd use it too and Travis would get hyped as hell for them. Yeah, those two at the end...they're fun.

Another fun fact: In the fight at the end between Vox Machina and Brimscythe (Voiced by David Tennant), you see Scanlan use a spell called ‘Scanlan’s hand’ and Grog saying ‘I would like to rage’. Scanlan’s Hand is a reference to one of, if not the most iconic of Scanlan’s spells in ‘Bigby’s Hand’, which conjures a large Magical hand for him to control. However because of licensing it had to have its name changed. Sam Riegel, Scanlans Voice, was also notorious for singing parodies of songs in the game for his Bardic Abilities, which naturally couldn’t carry over for that same reason. So instead they made him some all new original Lyrics. In Critical Role Campaign 1, Travis (Grog’s actor) had a catchphrase of saying to the Dm (Matt Mercer) “I would like to rage” whenever he activated his Barbarian’s Rage class feature, which became an iconic line, even going on to be what Ashley (Pike’s Actor) says in the Second Campaign when *she* uses her Rage as well! So that was a fun little reference to that longstanding line.

I love everything about what CR is doing with this series. As Matt Mercer (DM) and his Wife Marisha Ray (Keyleth) once said in an interview, this is the type of show everyone can enjoy without knowing anything about DND or Critical Role, but for longtime fans (like myself) it is jam packed with nods to the campaigns, the characters, and the people themselves.
I love that right away in this episode they introduce Vox Machina's arch enemy. Doors. Ordinary doors.

1:34 fun fact about Reinhart: his voice actor, Darin de Paul used to play DnD with Matt Mercer's (the DM of Critical Role) mother something like 30-35 years back. And then waay later when he became a voice actor he met Matt through work and they realized the connection. And then he guested on Critical Role towards the end of their first campaign, playing the same character he did all those years ago. And now he's on The Legend Of Vox Machina. He's the announcer in episode 3 and also another character called Stonefell later in the season.

Lady Briarwood is voiced by Grey Griffin who also does Azula in Avata Sylas Briarwood is voiced by our DM Matt Mercer
Fun fact: if you look closely as Vexs dragon sense goes off both two people are making eye contact with her every time. They really pulled a Snape on us
So there's a linguistic play on words in the advice from Gilmore. "Gorge" is the French word for "neck." So the book did tell them exactly where to attack
You might recognise the voice of "mommy" Delilah Briarwood at the end. As Azula from Avatar, the last airbender.
It's amusing to me that they can barely understand Tennant's relatively mild Scottish accent.

The two holding hands were the siblings, Vex and Vax.
Fun Fact: The person who voices Lady Briarwood is the same person who voices Azula
Yeah, pretty sure when Lord and Lady Briarwood were first introduced in the campaign, the fans collectively went: “Oh, no… they’re hot.”
For your "research", his full name is Shaun Gilmore
A 'horde' is a bunch of undead. a dragon's HOARD is something else.
Poor Brimscythe, got murdered in his own home and the perps got rewarded for it.
the ones in the intro holding hands are Vax and Vex as kids. they are twins.
Alicia already became fodder to the Briarwoods just like the girls in Dio's den.
The dragon was Dr. Who. David Tennant.
Don't know if you guys read your youtube comments, but the voice of Delilah Briarwood is also the voice of Fire Princess Azula from Avatar. The voice of Sylas is Matthew Mercer, who was the DM of the players in Critical Role, he also voices characters drawn in his likeness in each episode. He's the one that got pissed on by Scanlan in the first episode! And General Krieg, Brimscythe, the Iron Storm, was voiced by David Tennant!
When they struggled to open the door, it's a meme that they always rolled like shit with doors.
