DRAGON PARADE! CHINESE NEW YEAR MANCHESTER 2024 CELEBRATIONS (Sun Feb 11th 2024) (4K UHD)
Gong Xi Fa Cai! 2024 is The Year Of The Wood Dragon!
The Chinese New Year Celebrations took place in Manchester on Sunday February 11th 2024 with the Dragon Parade, but they ran through from Sat Feb 3rd to Sun Feb 11th in Manchester Market Street with a number of food outlets.

I have to say I was disappointed with the Dragon Parade compared to last year. That one had a better start position outside Manchester Central Covention Complex, and flowed better throughout the streets. I also managed to get a much better position at each of the points where I filmed. And when the parade went onto Portland Street, I used that time to go down a backstreet and head towards Faulkner Street in Chinatown much sooner, ahead of the Dragon coming to the Chinatown Car Park, so it was easier to get in.
Additionally, last year, the dragon was followed by a procession of people in traditional Chinese outfits, like the ladies at the start of this video, and so I was expecting the same, including those very ladies. However, any sort of procession was nowhere to be seen! What happened?!
This year, the crowd control from Showsec was bloody awful, since as the crowds went from Portland to Faulkner, and with some people trying to head the other way through us, everything was completely jammed. Even some members of the crowd were doing better crowd control, one guy shouting, "Can I make a suggestion" (at about 1.15pm) before suggesting everyone keep right, whichever direction they'regoing. Kudos to him, because Showsec were horrendous, and sent us down a tight passageway which soon got jammed!
However, even yesterday when I entered after the dragon arrived, it was quite free to walk around in there, with the crowds only 3-4-deep at the stage. So why are so many people walking through Chinatown if they have no interest in watching the stage?
(NOTE: I've since seen on Manchester Evening News' site, one picture of a small part of a procession on Portland Street - where I could only see the Dragon above the heads of other people - but not once could I see anyone following on Oxford Street beforehand, where it shows no-one following the dragon, as I had a good view of that, and I doubt any procession tried to follow into Faulkner Street, following Showsec's shambolic actions)
