The steelbooks do look really nice in person. I'd rather they used new art, but the promo art used for these is still more on model than the promo art used for kai and the season sets. (also glad to see someone not jumping on the usual "unwatchable trash" meme. Yes, these are not perfect, but if you're not an AV nerd, they are fine.)

Man people hate too much. I honestly have the orange bricks. I know they have flaws but tbh they have some cool things about them too. But there's gonna be those people who would compare it to trash.

I got the 30th Anniversary Edition and whilst I think it’s pretty dope, I gotta admit the book style cases they did make me scared imma break it every time I pull a disc out 😂 I might look into getting these steel books because they look super sick and will give me a way to watch DBZ without being afraid of tearing or breaking the cases

You could just buy empty blu-ray cases for your discs too. It would be cheaper.

to be fair to funimation they did an ok job splitting up the seasons ..season 1 for example ends with the gang going to namek...that is the start of a new arc..season 2 ends with ginyu being turned into a frog aka the end of the namek arc part of the freeza saga where everyone but freeza fights the gang pretty much and they interact with namekians and all that...3 ends with the namekians all going back home and everyone finding out goku is still alive after namek blew up so its the perfect episode to split the seasons up at before the trunks/androids arc and cell saga begins ....the old seasons had slightly worse breaks imo so they tried to line up the seasons with the sagas or arcs and while technically they are not accurate they are in a way

if i have the original blu ray dvds that came before these do i even need too upgrade too the steel books i started collecting these i just missing season 9 witch i order soon .also i dont like steel books anymorei though they was cool but over time the more you open them up or move them around in your setup they will break in time witch is why i prefer the 4 disc blu ray set from tlast set that came out before this so i am good

I wouldn't say that you "need" to upgrade to these, no. For most people - One complete set of DBZ is probably enough, ha...you can experience the main animation and story in any release. I really wouldn't recommend it if you already have it on Blu-ray (the widescreen season sets)...it's not "that" different for the casual viewer. If you only have it on DVD (such as the Uncut DVDs or Orange Bricks), or you don't own it at all and want to buy it for the first time - get these. I hope that helps!

I can hardly watch DBZ without the faulconer score. Magical stuff, the vast majority of it holds up wonderfully, and does an incredible job at driving so many scenes, it oozes of atmosphere, it reaks of badassary, emotion and at times, has a lot of heart. I still listen to it to this day hehe. :P

Dragon Box is still the best this is a good release but definitely not the quality video it should be for 2020s. I am hopeful someday they put the dragon boxes on Blu-ray or even 4k. Tired of setting for half assed releases 😅.

It's awesome! Definitely the best viewing experience I've had. I have a hard time imagining people wanting much more than this edition, honestly.

i prefer the color saturation no grain widescreen version....the old color schemes aspect ratio and grain makes the show look so old..

I always wondered. Why is Vegeta on Season 1 cover and Goku on season 2 cover? Goku is the main protagonist so he would be fitting to take the season 1 cover. This steelbook and orange brick seems like they will have the same character for particular season. Also why put SSJ Goku on season 2 disk 4 when Goku hasn't achieved that form yet. And season 3 could have put all 4 forms of Frieza.... Feels like the person who chose the design of each disks have no clue about dragon ball.

@@ryan9990 All funimation needs to do is compile the single/stand alone None-remastered DVD episodes they released in the early 2000's into one big DVD box set and call it a day. I don't need to see DBZ in 1080p, 4K OR digitally remastered(etc) it LOOKED better when it aired on TV, along with the VHS & Stand alone DVD's. XD DBZ looked it's best on CRT Tube TV's back in the late 90's and early 2000's. That low 480i resolution, softness, perfect motion clarity and smaller 27"-32" screen sizes did wonders from the art style and animation. Everything looked more natural and organic.

The UK version of these blu rays are in regular plastic cases and they play on region A players. Also they come with a mini poster and character cards. I ordered all 9 sets off of Amazon UK.

Yeah, these really should just be the default release of DBZ now, IMO - I wish they'd just release the whole series of these discs in budget packaging at a budget price. They've already made their money at the ultra-premium consumer level with the 35th Anniversary collection first, then re-released them at the premium consumer level with the Steelbooks, so one would think they'd also want put out a standard release of it now.

Yes - native true 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio (with no overscan), presented in 1080p on BD-50 discs. 👍

@@dbzking So I bought the Steelbook blu-rays and as I was watching the discs on my screen, I went to my computer to look up and compare footage from the Dragon Box sets of DBZ and footage from Dragon Ball Kai for double checking. From I can tell, yes the Steelbook blu-rays are in 4:3, but the footage is still cropped. I have very little knowledge of AV, but from what I can tell the cropping isn’t too bad. If anything, it’s kind of like the blue bricks for Dragon Ball where the footage is a bit cropped compared to the Dragon Box sets for Dragon Ball, but it’s not enough that it truly ruins the watching experience. The coloring and shading doesn’t offend me that much, although there was a frame where Napa’s right eye was completely gone and that wasn’t pretty to see. All in all, it’s a fine alternative to the previous blu-ray season sets and especially the orange bricks DVDs.

Sorry, I can't split up my set, ha! I didn't realize until your comment, but you're right - it looks like the Season 1 Steelbook might be out of print now? If there's one thing you can count on in life though, it's that Funimation will release Dragon Ball Z again in some form. They'll probably come out with a retail non-Steelbook release once they all sell out, I would bet (though that's just a guess). These were only available in the super expensive 30th Anniversary set a few years ago...now they're out in the less expensive Steelbooks...so I wouldn't be surprised to see them in an even less expensive standard Blu-ray release sometime in the future.

I know I'm late to this but I just gotta say 40$ for a season is outrageous and over priced I'd rather pay 20$ a season

For a Steelbook with that many discs, it's not too bad...but maybe a little overpriced. All of DB will be on Crunchyroll now that they've merged with Funimation, so if pure cost is of concern, that's going to be the cheapest way to legally watch it soon!
