I like how these two try to make sense timeline wise when this movie doesn't take place in the main canon anyway lol.

a true mark of a fan lol. I make up theories to fit most OVAs TV films into their respective series as well. It's fun to imagine that a non canon story can somehow be twisted into fitting the main storyline. Regardless this movie rocks even if it's nowhere near the original timeline.

Most of these movies are non cannon so you don't necessarily have to worry about it following the story line, however, this movie is after Majin Buu saga.

Goku and king kai have the same voice actor, so does picolo and vegeta

Keeping in mind that Gogeta isn’t cannon, but the movie has showed what the character will be like if the two boys ever use fusion technique

In my mind fusion rebort is a what-if version of the OG timeline where Gohan actually defeats Super Buu, and because of that Goku/Vegeta are still in otherworld.

This takes place right after Goku fought Majin Buu, the fat one, and gote. And trunks leaned to fuse. That's why hes back in other world, and just because he's super Saiyan 3 that doesn't mean he can beat any enemy that he encounters janemba is just that strong. The only part that doesn't make sense is Gohan eing on earth in the movie cause he should be on the kai planet training with the z sword. The only thing that makes sense with is to say this is in an alternate universe or timeline than the original

Goku still went back to other world after the fight with Buu (even if the fight wasnt technically over) after turning into SS3, It could fit canonically but the movies were always What if stories, only the special episodes and 1st movie were ever canon

It cannot fit canonically. For one, Gohan is alive and well alongside the Z-Fighters, meaning this cannot happen during the short time period where Goku and Vegeta were both dead. During that time period, Gohan was in the Realm of the Kais training with Elder Kai to deal with Buu. Speaking of which, Buu is also not present during this film, and Buu is obviously alive DURING the Buu Saga. The other biggest reason is the fact that Vegeta already put aside their differences and fused with Goku during this movie which invalidates the arc he undergoes during the Buu Saga. The movies purposefully include these kinds of things to show how they CAN'T fit into the main timeline, thus making them non-canon without having to directly say it.

These movies aren't canon but if it was then this would probably take place AFTER Goku fought Fat buu but before he turned into Super Buu.

Correction: It isn't canon (like most other DBZ films) but Fusion Reborn does take place during the Majin Buu Saga, after Goku's day on Earth is up and he has to return to Otherworld. Evident by the fact that Vegeta is also dead following his suicide attack on Buu

This movie was theoretically somehow taking place when goku returned to other world but gohan should be training in supreme kai's world so......yeah its of course another universe where it plays out different enough to where it works.....or ig it's after the buu saga

I feel like this happens if Vegeta's self-destruction actually kills Buu. Goten and Trunks regardless learns fusion. Gohan thinks Buu is still alive and trains.

Unfortunately you won’t understand the significance in that until you finish the series

All of the movies are semi-canon or completely non-canon This is a semi-canon scenario where Majin Buu was defeated by Gotenks, Vegeta stayed dead and it never got to the point where Goku got revived by Elder Kai. They do this because all of the movies aren't written by Toriyama, he just provides designs since he's too busy at the time. The animators are rehashing the events and villains of the arcs to reenact them similarly but in movie-form: Deadzone/Tree of Might are the Saiyan arc (Garlic's Immortality wish, Piccolo and Goku putting aside their rivalry to fight a bigger threat, Turles comes to Earth for power in the same way Vegeta and Nappa did and Gohan goes Great Ape) Lord Slug/Cooler's Revenge is the Namek arc just on Earth (both Cooler and Slug have their own Ginyu Force, Slug is after immortality and subjugates Earth like Frieza did Namek and Cooler is coming to avenge Frieza who was killed by a non-Super Saiyan Goku's Spirit Bomb, which is why movie-verse Goku goes Super Saiyan for the first time against Cooler) Super Android 13 is based on the Android Arc (Two androids trying to kill Goku for Gero's Revenge and Android 13 absorbs his fellow Androids similar to how Cell does 17 and 18 to reach his perfect form) Fusion Reborn is essentially the Buu Arc (Janemba has both a fat and skinny form, his trans-dimensional powers kinda mimic Buu's intangibility and Goku and Vegeta must fuse to defeat him, just Fusion Dance this time vs Potara)

This storyline only makes sense to me considered ultimate gohan beats super buu in an alternate timeline. Hence Gohan's insane power and him being the strongest protector of earth, he takes center stage here on the earth plane. It also ties in as an alternative timeline because during buu and gohans battle both goku and vegeta were dead, hence they are dead here. Goku taking time to reach ssj3 makes sense given he only was pushed by fat buu to do so in order to buy time during the main storyline.

In the japanese dub goku says "You can use magic?" when janemba copied goku on his palm. So... yeah idk why they changed it in english dub cause it's actually an important line 😂

Someone has prob said this already but none of the DBZ movies can possibly fit within the show's timeline, they never make sense. For example, in Deadzone, Goku already knows how to use Kaioken before he died and before Gohan started training with Piccolo. The movies are basically fan fiction.

Also what ever people may say this movie is just before super buu and but after gotenks introduction and when Buu explores the planet somewhere around there. And the movies may not effect the events that happen in the anime but they are infact canon they just don't happen in the same timeline. As videls watch actually states its only been a few days after the tournament in terms of the timeline. And gohan being there is kinda a heavy fault on the teams end 😭. Plus the movie dubs in general tend to fuck up alot of things lmao. Also fun fact Jenemba is one of the villains toyiama didn't design and was the one that surprised him the most.

Question when you guys get to Super are you just gonna watch the episodes or the first two movies? Cause I believe the first couple arcs are based off of movies but I think it’d be better if you guys watched the actual episodes cause there’s more content and detail !

None of the OG movies are canon, as they’re mainly just condensed film adaptations of various arcs and themes. The only canon movies are Battle of Gods and up, and even then BoG and Resurrection F were later usurped by the anime versions of those events. Which I personally think is a bad decision since the films are way, way better than the anime for those. Anyway, if you were to try to put this film into the actual main timeline like how TFS does with abridged… it would likely be around the time that Goku taught Goten and Trunks how to fuse and had to go back to other world. But before Gohan unlocked his Mystic/Ultimate form. Since he is still using the weaker SSJ1/SSJ2 in the film he wouldn’t have it yet.

NOT CANON lol...None of the dbz movies are canon except for the newer ones

He already fought KID BUU he went ss3 in that fight and fusion reborn just means the debut of gogeta very first time goku and vegeta did the dance fusion

The Dragonball Z movies fit in the timeline of the Dragonball Z series but they are not cannon.

The movies are not canon to the storyline, i believe the creator of dbz stated that they are like alternate timeline scenarios, or something like that, so dont bother trying to fit them into the main timeline proper.

The old movies including this one are not canon. There's no way this can fit into the official timeline of the franchise.

You guys should have definitely watched the last few movies starting with The Return of Cooler with the Japanese BGM. By that time Bruce Faulconer had a falling out with Funimation and so the Faulconer Production score was no longer used and instead they had a replacement come in. Also, you miss out on the neat character themes in the Japanese score. And lastly, none of the Dragon Ball movies except for "Battle of Gods", "Resurrection F", "DBS Broly", and "Super Hero" is canon to the main storyline, in addition to the "History of Trunks" special. All of the other movies takes place in an alternate timeline, as stated by Akira Toriyama.
