Also, since 17 is a bio-android wouldn't you kinda need a clone of the person who he originally was? Or could Gero theoretically mass produce 17s and 18s? If so, the technology of Gero to make combat capable androids would in an alternative universe potentially allow for the Earth to build an army that'd make the Freeza Force look like peasant militia. Who needs Super Saiyans when you can make infinite energy post-human super soldiers?

I like how all Nappa really did during his involvement in this arc was just yell and grunt. They had a voice actor do this for him. Couldn't they at least have given him ONE sentence of dialog?

Nappa's voice actor had passed away, so they chose to give him no dialogue rather than have someone do a stand-in.

@@BassLiberators JP or US? Also if that's the case, why include him on this at all if he was just going to essentially say nothing? They didn't even try with him. He was just there to die to Vegeta and literally nothing else. He could've said anything before then to at least make the reunited encounter actually mean something rather than be a forgettable one sided confrontation.

If I recall correctly the reason they didn't fuse is because Trunks (or someone) said that it wouldn't make a difference. Which is probably true but if you're getting your ass handed to you and the fate of the world is at stake why wouldn't you try everything you can. Yet another example of GT's god awful writing.

this is literally the perfect embodiment of this arc.

Okay so I’m Dragon Ball Z, the androids were technically cyborgs due to them starting as real people. But In GT, they create an entirely new ‘android’ out of spare parts in the afterlife, so wouldn’t that mean it’s literally just a robot and would have absolutely no ties to the real 17 at all? Or am I missing something?

To answer your question the 17 in hfils a machine mutant that looks like and was programmed to fuse with normal 17 and possibly 18 before she convinced by krillian. The plan was to resurrect the all souls through 17 linking ki together then become super as a plan b but was the main intention from the start

The writers of GT seemingly missed the bit from Dragon Ball Z about how dying again when one is already dead eliminates the soul entirely, preventing resurrection or reincarnation. The stakes in this arc would have been bigger for the villains than the heroes since they would be gone forever if they lost.

Once I had a dream in which Evangelion was made in Dragon Ball GT's artstyle. It was kind like a sequel to EVA. Oh, and Buzz Lightyear was also there for some reason.

I'm not gonna lie, Mr.Satan's reaction to beating Oob at the tourni actually makes me tear up as dumb as that sounds. Lol

GT did 17 dirty. Even with his last moment in Z he wasn't evil anymore. I'm so glad Super redeemed him from the mess Super Android 17 was. Also this is the closest thing we have for Frieza and Cell having a moment in an official version of the show; more wasted potential. Team Four Star's HFIL does a better job with Frieza and Cell interacting.

I feel like they pulled a name out of a hat for the villain. It could've been Super Ginyu Force.

5:24 Thanks for mentioning that, that was my exact same sentiment. There could have been so much interesting dialogue to derive from this setup. Or even a whole side story. An arc for Nappa that simulatenously could have further underlined Vegeta's character development since he killed Nappa. It would make sense for Vegeta to spare him and give him a second chance, since he originally killed him and before that Nappa was a faithful companion. Meanwhile, Nappa knows Vegeta well enough to respect him, and while he likes destroying stuff, has just the same kind of Saiyan pride that would motivate him to give this new training a try that somehow enabled his former prince to become the legendary Super Saiyan.

The only good thing about this saga was Android 18's character development

@@superthorc6894 It was character development because we finally saw how much 18 truly loves Krillin and her family as a whole, even going as far as to try to kill her own brother, the only person that was there for her before the Android saga, for what he did to her husband. She was even willing to team up with Goku to do it, the person she was programmed to kill. She wasn't anything like this in the Android saga, and she got way too little amount of focus in the Buu saga, so yeah, this is character development, whether you liked it or not.

It was just the Z fighters stomping previous villains, then Super 17 stomping the Z fighters, then Goku constantly attacking 17 with ki blasts eventhough he knows 17 can absorb ki blasts. And Super 17 just looked like male stripper rathen than a final boss villain.

I know I know, it just gets extremely repetitive at times.

I didnt like how much 17 was treated as a mindless pawn this arc, giving off the impression that hes just been doing nothing these past 10 years. I also didnt quite like the idea giving super 17 the energy absorption properties of 19 and gero, gero designed 17 and 18 with the infinite energy engine cause it was simply superior to relying on the energy of others. They couldve made it an advancement of 17s already busted android barrier by giving it the property of full on energy negation I wouldve been fine with that but making him rely on energy absorbing just feels like a step down in terms of scientific advancement. Also there was no reason why Gotenks couldn't have appeared this arc. In the dragonball arc trunks was in space whilst goten was being useless, in the baby arc they were being mind controlled but here they were both in the same play and fighting an opponent at the same time Y NU GOTENKS?

This show was so up Goku's butt. It always annoyed me Cell had a grudge against Goku who did nothing to him. In fact Goku's suicide at the end helps him almost beat Gohan. At least 18 got to be important at the end.

One of the reasons they never really developed the other characters. Other people have come up with awesome alternative stories that involved all original Z characters and could still build some new ones. The DBZ/GT/Super mostly failed to do so after Cell. Resulting in characters having embarassing downgrades in stead of growth.

Watch the Goku-Rekoom fight

You know, I just figure out how one might make GT better: Make it 7 mini-arcs and the Shadow Dragons the main antagonists (so its 1 big arc separated between the seven shadow dragons). It would be like this: Pillaf uses the dragon balls, the shadow dragons are made and all dragons get 2 wishes of their own, with much more power behind them. One wishes goku to be kid in order to make him non threat (they cant wish for goku to die as dragon balls cant kill anyone that stronger than the dragons, which is plotpoint in the original show). Most of the dragons fly to space, but three stay on earth: Haze Shenron (the frog one), who dies first and wishes earths destruction (not sure how long that doomsday clock is) and Bulmas knowledge of the dragon radar to be erased, so that the main cast has harder time to pinpoint the dragons in space (he has destroyed the radar beforehand, of course), Rage Shenron (penguin one) wishes portal to the hell and that any soul that passe though it to earth is immortal (Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan and Tien fight the Rage Shenron and the hells spirits while other go to space and track down the shadow dragons) and Naturon Shenron (the mole one) who takes the Babys place in this story, waiting in the shadows for his time, which is right after Rage Shenron is defeated and the heroes are weakened, giving him perfect time to posses Vegeta (makes sense because he was the reason why Naturon was born) and begins to take over the earth in the process. Ocean shenron creates an cult around themselves (made from the planets that appear in the Blackstar arc ) by wishing to go back in time for a decade (which is why the cult is so well established) and bowl of best ice cream (there needs to be least one joke wish),Eis and Nova wander around the space to find challengers (Nova especially, Eis just wants to lord his superiority over others) and Syn knows that the other dragons are going to be defeated, so he bides his time, waiting for the moment when he can absorb the six dragon balls to himself. Not the best and has lot of holes, but it could work. Or not. Probably not. Just me trying to think a way to make things go together while keeping most of the GT relatively same (relative in huge quotation marks).

Bruh... Pilaf explained in the first episode that the Black Star Dragon Balls were created by the nameless Namekian before he split into Kami & King Piccolo. That's why they're linked to Piccolo's life after reuniting with Kami.

Matt Slinkard Then why were they never brought up before? Such a huge deal is made of not having any Dragon Balls anymore during the Cell saga because Piccolo and Kami had merged. Sure, there was the planet exploding risk with the Black Star Balls, but surely given the massive risk Cell posed the idea would’ve at least been entertained? Or maybe Piccolo would’ve thought to warn Dende, the next Guardian, that he now had two sets of Dragon Balls to watch over? At least in Super when shit like this is introduced its with gods and other higher powers who have no business dealing with mortals most of the time and can be reasoned to be doing other stuff. With the Black Star Balls we’re expected to just accept that they’ve been sitting there ever since Cell was a thing, all the way up through the post-Buu Saga time skip, and none of the people directly responsible for their existence thought to bring them up.

@@Prankmeister1990 If anything could explain it, it's most likely that Piccolo didn't remember the existence of the Black Star Dragon Balls. If that seems far fetched, just remember he couldn't even remember his real name after fusing back with Kami and just chose to keep going by 'Piccolo.'

You know whats dumb about Piccolo death. In OG Dragon Ball, King Piccolo killed Shenron so no one can use the balls anymore. Just murder the dragon and don't give me the excuse that it has a high power level. Because the next saga in GT establish about a dragon's strength.

goku clearly made a wish with shenron at the end of gt to help him win vs omega in exchange he would go with him..gokus tired man hes fought a lot he put his body on the line to help and then he gets to rest with shenron as the earth will not need any help from the balls again he feels...he had to go...

The bad things in GT is just very blatant. It's so short so it is actually easy to remember the Super 17 saga is the worst in all of Dragon ball. It gets a 2/10. The black star arc gets a 3/10 they tried to do something different. 4/10 is shadow Dragons. 3 of them were good but otherwise not the best. Baby saga was ok. 6/10. So GT ratings on average. 4.5/10

Sounds to me like this Arc is exactly the bad stereotypical portrayal of Dragon Ball that outsiders will see this show as: "it's just a pointless fighting show."

Iug sure Buu gets reincarnated but he is still required to die before that and that raises the question how long do people stay dead before they reincarnate? The normal people who don’t keep their bodies probably reincarnate sooner then those with bodies. Could Grandpa Gohan still be in otherworld or is he already reborn? We will probably never know.

It’s cool how they put cooler there considering he was not cannon but that just goes to show the creators of GT really didn’t give a shit about continuity or it probably wasn’t a big deal then

11:15 Well, this is GT, the show where every fight consists of the two characters firing attacks at each other until one loses. That wasn't Goku acting as if his hands were tied, it was the writers.

I love the DBZA reference at the end. Perfect

For me, it's just getting so old for Krillin to show up and then die again. Sure it gets 18 worked up but common man, be a bit more creative. Could've easily get the same emotional note across just by having him threatened. In fact, leaving him alive might pose more of a stake for the heroes cause now they need to keep Krillin alive instead of just revenge.

The decision to kill Piccolo permanently and condemn him to hell seemed so spiteful and vicious to me that it remains the main reason I don't like GT.

I remember this solely for not knowing where the second 17 came from. Was that his human half that died or, I vaguely remember, them buildind a new 17 but he was human with mechanical parts so HOW did they build him?

For me personally? The GT version. At least the Super's version doesn't contradict anything already established. GT contradicts a lot: Why were Piccolo and the Super Dragon Balls connected and how does him dying deactivate them? It simply makes no sense. If something has to be tacked on than at least make it make sense.

At least in Super they resurrected him almost instantly and he was alive for the rest of the series. His death was definitely not necessary though and it was cheap drama for drama's sake.

I only distinctly remember the Red x10 Kamehameha. Besides that, I not only forgot most of the arc but hated every bit of it...

I love how Hyorinjutsu basically took the Frieza & Cell episode and made it a thousand times better and more terrifying. Also, Super 17 was the original Merged Zamasu and you can't change my mind.

@@auditect950 Zamasu overall (Zamasu, Goku Black, Fused Zamasu) is big mix of all other villains. What's more funny, especially GT villains. Taking over saiyan body despite seeing saiyans as savages? That's Baby. Believing that what you do is right? Baby again. Fusing with yourself only to be destroyed because of one of your halfs? Super 17. Blaming someone for your existence and seeing yourself as a destiny? Shadow Dragons. Yet some say he is the best villain in franchise lmao. Him having generic "evil kai" and "evil goku" look doesn't help.

@@jamainegardner4193 I counted eight. -Wishing for immortality with the Dragon Balls (Garlic Jr.) -Desiring to overtake the world's strongest body (Dr. Wheelo) -Changing Bodies (Captain Ginyu) -Being an evil version of Goku (Turles) -Fusing with himself (Super 17) The laser sword attack is stolen from Salza and the dimensional punches from Janemba. His final scene in the manga, where many copies of him surround a beaten down Goku and Vegeta and looking down from up on a hill, is taken straight from the second Cooler Movie.

I'm glad that Mark is giving GT a fair and honest shot.

Goku's first kill in Z is Yakkon in the Buu Saga. He didn't get a single kill until the very last Saga of Z. And it was right before he threatened Supreme Kai. I feel like that's kind of fitting.

Man this arc is sooo short but it felt like it lasted FORVEVER just because of how boring it was! It makes the Baby Arc seem like a masterpiece of story telling in comparison.

Making a point to go back and rewatch all your content (priority to Dragon Ball) again. Sucks to see what happened over the holidays and sucks to not see as many videos come from your channel. Everyone always mentions how Nappa and Vegeta should have had words, but the truth is that Nappa wasn't a fondly remembered character until TFS parodied him. He was an extra in Vegeta's introduction arc, nothing more.

Unless Frieza and Cell have been training, base form GT Goku easily one-shots both of them. Remember that Goku’s base form in GT is as strong as Majin Buu, i.e., SSJ3 level.

I grew up with GT and still love its design. But I don't really like the "yeah It's technology so It can be as poweful as we want It to be" used for 17 and Super17. As much as I don't like a powerful bomb in 18 capable of scaring Super17. They act like red ribbon underwent THOUSANDS of years of scientific discoveries in 10-20 years.

ROBOTPETER101 well no, not really. The main thing it relies on is the dragon balls, which is the main focus of, well, Dragon Ball. Super 17 was... unfortunate. But it had some nice moments. Mainly 18 beating down 17. But I digress. A hell of a lot of Super is just filler after filler. The TOP is the biggest victim of this, because of how many episodes it had. There was too much filler throughout super, and the first handful of episodes were basically just the movies. Which is a big waste if you ask me.

@@cityguard4847 I dunno I just kinda feel like alot of the stuff GT does is more 'Well this stuff was in OG Dragon Ball/Z so lets add post it notes to it' rather than 'Lets add some whole new stuff to the world and characters' Which isnt exactly bad, hell with Baby it was done pretty well in his connection to the saiyans. Just... 'Lets make Goku a kid, lets have Krillin get killed, Lets have them hunt the Dragon Balls again, lets make nu Trunks Diet Future Trunks, lets make Saiyans really important again, lets bring back the Great Ape/Oozaru (granted SS4 looks cool but with the context it just seems wrong on Goku. Id prefer it being a Vegeta form really.) Again, can end up with good stuff, but...I dunno seemed off to me. Also, If I can give a probably unpopular opinion, the filler in Super is the best part of Super to me. Other than a few great scenes in the ToP, when Super is focusing on the main arcs it tends to feel kinda sluggish or lame and suffer *alot* of the same problems I have with GT. "Its Dragon Balls but *really big!* Its Frieza as the main villain *again*! Future TRUNKS AGAIN!" The filler episodes tend to actually focus on other aspects of the world or characters that you dont get to see, or gives much needed development. And when they bring back stuff, its usually more as nods or just 'them using a thing again now that it makes sense' rather than 'lets make this *super important for this arc*' I do agree, the movies should have just stayed as movies.
