Dragging Anchor! Why Anchors Drag

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Why anchors drag is a subject you might be confused by because boats dragging anchor happens so often in sailing channels' videos, without explanation or warning. Well, the truth is: it's not! However, problems can arise when you don't understand the technical side. Here's a crash course in the concepts you should know so you'll understand why you're dragging achor!
As Tami and I fill our brains with everything we need to safely and confidently sail offshore, I thought I'd start this series of videos which address some of the more confusing or often not-well-explained technical things you see on sailing channels. If you're confused about how something works or why your favorite sailing superstars do things in a particular way, let me know! Maybe your question will be the topic of the next animation.
My wife and I are taking our lives offshore, but we don’t know how to sail. Yet. But we’re going to learn. Everything. And this is our story. Subscribe to our KZread channel and blog and come along with us!

@99thehighstreet69 The mathematics are never wrong, it is just that people don't understand the mathematics and instead just refer to fixed scopes. Then they find themselves dragging in a blow and they are wondering why that is happening. Understanding the forces involved will make you realize there is no fixed scope. The 3 : 1 or the 5 : 1 are based on calm wind, no current and no waves. The moment the wind starts to blow, a current occurs or waves start to develop that fixed scope goes out of the window.

Catenary works best when you least need it. In strong winds, it almost disappears and is of minimal effect.

christian macri Watch the Video again. It’s talking about how improper anchoring (dammit George!) causes drag (like George’s weak-ass catenary 😞) . This video also sounds like it’s also a small piece of an overall learning plan we’re just catching a glimpse of and missing context of. I know nothing of sailing and could piece this together. Don’t be a hater xoxo
