Next time... 1.) Swap out the rear knobbie for a supermoto tire 2.) Swap out the front wheel with a smaller diameter rim to bring the front end down 3.) Put a holeshot device on the front fork 4.) Launch in 2nd or 3rd gear WOT and control the delivery with your clutch 5.) Get as far forward on the bike as possible 6.) 2 strokes ROCK! My old 1972, H2 750 triple 2 stroke with chambers, K&Ns, clip ons, rear sets, bored .040 0ver, ported to the max at Phx Kaw. Never got beat by any 1000, 1100, 1200 cc anything! Power wheelies at 100 mph, just twist the throttle, carefully as it could go right over! Now the 4 strokes are catching up, 2 strokes had to be limited to 500cc in Moto GP while competing against 1000 cc 4 strokes. Now they are 800cc V5, over 280 hp. I still love the light weight and flickable power of the 2 strokes but i never drove a Moto GP bike, lol

Went with a full tank of gas and rode it home when the reserve light came on. Was clicking off 11.34's in the mid 120s run after run. That was a lot of runs crossing the line at 12,000 RPM. Back in my day the 490 Maico was king of the big 2s. I wonder how it would compare to that 500?

My thoughts. With that crazy small sized rear sprocket (appears to be a 32-34 tooth or so) a 2nd gear launch on asphalt (high traction) would be extremely difficult and third gear there is just no way even launching it at around 6000rpms where its power peaks it would either stall, the bike would bog badly or you would have to slip the clutch excessively to the point where it’s counter productive. Removing knobby tires definitely would help as would a holeshot device. Bike trapped 101mph (162kmh) which while decent for a dirt bike is nothing compared to most street bikes. The 12.68 ET at only 101mph trap is actually pretty decent et vs trap speed. Example most rwd cars that trap 101mph run high 13s to low 14s. Basically the good ET versus trap speed tells me that it’s actually getting off the line decently overall but it’s running out of acceleration at around 80mph plus due to aerodynamic drag overpowering the engines power. A 500 is knife in a gun fight on the streets.

You need a sprocket like that for top end , I had them on my KDX KMX an DTR etc an they are better for wood riding, had a big one on my YZ 250 it just wants Front wheel all time up in air on roads

I used to (illegally ) ride a KX500 on bitumen back roads. The power on that thing was crazy and if you weren't careful (or not sitting way forward )the front wheel would easily pop up in 4th or even 5th gear.

I had a XR600 four stroke thumper but my buddy had a CR 500 and i couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground in any gear on his two stroke rocket ship!🚀 good times

I had no idea a 500 ring dinger could pull 12s at the strip and I had a CR500 back in the day! haha... Not the best at trail riding which is what I love so got an RM250 which was just right. Long live 2strokes man we gotta get these kids on more 2strokes so they don't disappear forever like road going 2strokes did... If u need twice the motor to keep up your machine aint shit. Meaning if u need a 450 4stroke to b competitive with a 250 2stroke, its obvious there is waaaay less performance (and fun) 2b had on the 4strokes...

He started in 1st gear, anything bigger that a 65 cc motocross bike should start in 2nd. The kobby has no contact patch, no way to put down that power on tarmac with that tire. Bike seemed to be running rich. I’d like to see a great running 500 2 stroke and a great rider blast the course.
