    I first saw the Little Red Wagon race in 1966 or 67. The first of many times through the years. The man made history with his career. I am in my low 60s now. I built many plastic models of the Wagon. I just collect diecast cars now and it would be great if a 1/18th scale diecast of the Red Wagon came out. I have a lot of great memories of being with my late Dad at various races in the 60s.

    I bought a model of the Red Wagon back in 1992;it had his phone number in the box so I called and left a message;don't really remember what I said.I didn't really expect to hear back but low and behold on New Years morning 1993 he did call and we had a fantastic conversation about everything from drag racing to his ex wives.What a great guy😊

    Lake Charles Dragway at Old Chenault Air Base in the mid to late 70's. All they had was bleachers and a food trailer and a tin building for the clock tower. (ground level). Little Red Wagon also. That was pretty cool. He didn't care how big or small and he truly could "wheel stand the 1\4 on any surface." I think was what he said?

    I got to work on one with a 10 liter Arias motor, chopped top, and gull wing doors, jag rear end and it rode the quarter mile wheelies. I'm 6 ft 1 and I could rest my elbow on the roof. Ron said that it was a handfull to keep strait. It had a plexus glass floor so you could see where you going while on a wheelie. It was a cool truck and a sure one of a kind. It was in Vancouver Wa in the 90's.

    Ahhh....The Fugitive Corvette wheelstander....Bob Perry. Bob was a Tucsonan (Arizona) like me and decades ago he picked me up hitchhiking. What a cool guy. He owned a big lot alongside I-10 where he sold the coolest military surplus stuff. I stopped in there several times after he picked me up hitching and bought stuff. Just cruising around that big property you'd see all kinds of badass stuff for sale....made a guy with you had lots of land and $$....so many cool things with "possibilities" scattered around. RIP Bob Perry and Bill Golden.

    He was one of the nicest guys. I met him when I was a kid at the drag strip in Pearl, MS. My father was racing in super stock. Bill was in the staging lanes for a run and it was looking like it was going to rain and asked me if I would help the push the truck back to his trailer before it rained. I’ll never forget that. I had to have been like 12 years old.

    Balancing all the weight on the rear wheels doesn't really impress me much. Leave the engine up front and then do some wheelies. I would be way more impressed, even with shorter wheelies. Evil kenevil had a wheelie car that a man could pick up the front by hand! Not much challenge there.

  • @markcrombie5280

    @markcrombie5280

    Guessing you're young and inexperienced or naive. That was his schtick, dum dum, to do wheel stands the length of the track, hence the rear engine!! His deal was show not go! Front engined wheelstanders are harder to control and more likely to wreck which means more money on repairs and... Might as well argue with a stump.

    @@markcrombie5280 thank you for being rude. I agree with what you say, except about my age. I know the way they set up these wheelie cars makes it easier, that's why i'm not as impressed. The harder it is to do something, the more impressive it is when they succeed. If easy was impressive, i'd be a legendary couch sitter.

    When they started doing the wheel stands the engine was in the front stock position . The reason it is moved back is for safety. I was at bandimere drag way in 74 when the jolly rancher wheel stander wrecked . Was not a good sight .

    @@danwyrick322 i'm sure it wasn't. I don't like to see racecars crash. I'm a little surprised my comment warranted reaction. But i still say that doing a wheelie in a car with no weight on the front doesn't impress me. Now,, when Evil Kenevil made his record breaking jumps, i was VERY impressed! It takes talent to build enough power to make a real car lift the front wheels. I've never had a car that would, and I like hotrods.

    John Papa , my step dad and mother raced . Mom had a 10 second 68 galaxy 500 dad had a 9 second charger . Both were street legal. Dads charger would lift and carry the front tires 100 ft. Moms would just launch . It takes still to keep a car straight. Now when you carry a wheelie no matter if on two wheels or one ( motorcycle ) that takes skill . Hope you have a great evening. God bless
