    Nice build sir Graham!! I'm Max Speeding Rods user and by now haven't had any problem. I've recently built a 1.6 engine for my pug 205 Rallye using these rods with Wossner pistons, ported head, big CatCams camshaft and a pair of 45DCOE from china. The flowmeter says I should be somewhere near 155-160hp. It revs up to 8500rpm with ease, rods looked perfectly balanced and the steel used to build them is exactly the same as the Wossner rods (4340 Forged steel). The sharp edge that you mention in another video is a bummer but I have faith that they will not break lol

    its tough to say whether something will or wont fail, if its a customers engine and you have doubts either way ultimately leave the decision to them, the one plus point for your Peugoet is the pistons will be a lot lighter than pinto ones

    possibly a turbo in the future with the increased ring gaps , although its quite a high compression engine.

    Big ring gaps for a power adder in the future?...

  • @petercunningham3469
    @petercunningham346917 күн бұрын

    Lots of reasons to increase the gap piston supplier's usually give specs if theres more cylinder pressure and heat the ring gap needs to be bigger generally .Blowers nitrous methanol Nitro and Turbos all have to have bigger gaps , good explanation of flow cam timing and lift relationship that valve head really does get in the way of power 😊

    Ring gaps at that comp would suggest a little bit of spray is gonna happen at some point, cant see forced induction

    I'm guessing the increased ring gap is for bringing compression down a tad, for some boost maybe?

  • @PenguinMotors

    @PenguinMotors

    nothing to do with compression, its heat related, power adders such as turbos put more heat into the rings and expand them more, if they expand enough that the gaps close to zero you end up with broken pistons

    Another really interesting video Graham, looking forward to seeing the dyno session, im guessing this one is going to be over the 200 bhp mark?

    The goal at this stage isnt ultimate power, its to have an engine on cam around 4K and will make useful power at about 8k. the last 2.1 i ran with similar head airflow figures made 207bhp

    Hi Graham, Go Kart. We spoke a while back about my kart engine, a 250cc inline twin. 13.000rpm 4 stroke on a 45dcoe 40chokes. Progress so far. Engine starts in the normal way. Pump pump start. It will now hold a steady Idle after about 30seconds, to a minute. It will drive away slowly or at speed from standstill. It will take full throttle from walking pace, so its coming along now. I've just got some triming left to optimise things before calling it finished. Head fully worked but standard valve sizes due to wall proximity. On one 45dcoe 152 40 chokes Thanks for your original support/information, maybe one day I'll get it to a kart dyno for final correction. Cheers. Roger.....

    your upto some pretty big chokes there, what jetting are you using with them? ironically since we first talked imve started adapting a 45 dcoe to go on a 450 twin

    It seems to me it could be beneficial to have that 2nd Cam belt tensioner especially as there is a " trigger wheel on the crank

  • @PenguinMotors

    Really love your videos. I know the old 18rg that im planning to build is not the same, but im learning a lot from the ford's. It's worth going 40 dcoe efi over 45.s webers ?

    40mm throttle bodies will have similar power potiential to 45 dcoes, as the incoming air doesnt need to negotiate the aux vent or choke (venturi)

    I know when you turbo a na engine the piston rings need more gap. But why I don't remember. More boost?

  • @PenguinMotors

    @PenguinMotors

    16 күн бұрын

    its about heat, boost or NOS for that matter puts a lot more heat into the piston rings, that expands them more, if they expand enough for the ends to touch and butt up tight against each other with no more space for them to expand to you end up with broken pistons
