Just when I thought the Golf R was quick, the RS3 absolutely blows it away. Both are awesome though and I'd take either of them. Volkswagen Group definitely makes the best hot hatches.

It’s not quick at all the rs3 just about scrapes the name being quick as it can do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds The golf r and S3 take 4.1/4.2 which is slow Copped after 60 the s3 golf r cannot pull hard so for instance if u put a rs7 on an autobahn with a golf r or rs3 or even s3 you’d see it get destroyed by miles also low rpms These are quick not fast cars unfortunately

@@germanengineering204 I don’t find any noticeable lag and I mostly use it as a daily city drive, the 5 pot is very responsive even in comfort mode and once you are above 2500 RPM the engine just roars to life, I would almost say that driving the RS3 in comfort feels comparable to S3 in dynamic and dynamic in RS3 is just beast mode & that 5 cylinder exhaust note🤤

I traded in my mk8 r for the new RS3 sedan version and this video just backed up my decision. However the Golf R has not disappointed at all and in fact I feel you get more for your buck as the RS3 didn’t come with many options in the UK

Very true. I have the rs3 saloon 2017 version so early 8v 400bhp, the best one. I looked at the new one but it’s just not worth the upgrade, tiny bit quicker but barely noticeable real world driving, worse sound, worse interior but the big issue is with the price increase it’ll be near £20k to swap. Not worth it. Happy with mine as only done 18k miles anyway lol. The mk8 golf r is a great car for the money. No one will be disappointed with either of these cars.

This is a cool race to do and then after the race you should tune the golf right there on the track just to see how much a stage one map helps. It would be cool to see a before and after comparison

@@vroomgc Yeah I totally agree! I’ve never done one of these piggyback styles myself but I know they don’t get nearly the results of a regular tune.

Let's race a car costing from £37,710 rrp, with 4 cylinders, and 320ish bhp, against a car starting from £57,900, with 5 cylinders, an extra 80-90 bhp, and a quicker gearbox, then attempt to make a surprising video on the results. The RS3 is in an entirely different class. The Golf R, in its class, is currently the best car. The comparable S3 isn't. 20k+ extra though over the R? Nothing a stage one ecu and tcu map can't sort.

Just wondering is the new RS3 any quicker than the old one? See a few bhp up and 20Nm but 60kg heavier. Shouldn’t be any different on paper.

£15k? A Golf 8R with all the options most will go for, i.e. leather, winter pack, Lapiz Blue, R Pack, sport exhaust and DCC is £53k. An RS3 sportback in more the less the same spec, i.e. Carbon Black trim, DCC, C&S) is £61k. According to my math, that's £8k, which kinda makes buying a decent spec Golf R questionable now the new RS3 is in town.

Agreed Sam. Actually the difference is more as big discounts on Golf R and zero on RS3. It's more like 20k difference between high spec R and similar spec RS3. In the real world the performance (not drag racing or track) of the R is more than enough and I'll have 20k in the bank to spend on other toys thanks.

@@coops111s whats your point? The fact is the golf is much cheaper and is still a great car. Interior taste is subjective. I like the fact the Golf R interior seats are unique to the car and I like the cloth ones but leather is great too . I don't like the fact the RS3 interior is the same as an S3 which I think is a step down from the quality from the previous version (the air vents do have comedy value tho). I don't like that I have to spend 61k to get a sunroof on the RS3 and you are given a pretty dire steering wheel as part of that package. So I'm happy with the Golf interior and 20k in my pocket. You think the Golf quality is poor. Fair enough that's your taste. It's still way cheaper tho.

So we are gonna ignore the fact that the vw has minimum 50 hp less. You know what 50 hp is? (on paper 80 HP) Both nice cars. But s3 is the car to be compared to the golf r. Golf R beats everyone in his category. Don't forget also the rs3 is product of VW and so it's all marketing. But still I love both cars and want to be fair
