DRAG RACE: Ford Ranger 2,0 SiT FX4 vs Toyota Hilux 2,4 GD-6 Raider

The Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux have been rivals since the day the two badges hit the streets. Admittedly, the price and performance figures of these two trims are somewhat mismatched but we thought we’d pair them off against one another regardless, to see the difference in performance.
The Ford Ranger 2,0 SiT 4x4 XLT FX4 sports the brand’s turbodiesel 2,0-litre four-pot mill with a power output of 132 kW and 420 N.m of torque. This is sent to the 4x4 system via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Toyota Hilux 2,4 GD-6 4x4 Raider sport the brand’s slightly older turbodiesel 2,4-litre four-cylinder unit with a power output of 110 kW and 400 N.m of torque. This uses a six-speed automatic to transmit power to the 4x4 system.
Based on our test figures, the Ford Ranger sprints from 0-100 km/h in 11,47 seconds while the Toyota Hilux, 12,25 seconds. This does give the Ranger a bit of an edge in this pair-up but as we all know, anything can happen in a drag race.

I went out last month and demo'd a Ranger and Hilux. Loved the interior of the Ranger. The Ranger is a much better value than the Hilux IMO, if it can pull good ratings in dependability, then Toyota should start to pay attention. It's hard to beat the Hilux tradition of dependability, but you pay a lot for that too. I have more research to do and few more test drives.
Hilux Fanboys lose their cool on this one😂 really shows how toxic they were.
In Brasil the ranger had a 3.2, 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine, BEAST!... While the Hilux had a standard 2.8 turbo diesel.

I’m glad the FX4 won because I’m looking to get one 😂. I would say race the FX4 against the Mazda BT50 top spec and let’s see

It doesnt have to be FX4 , the FX4 package is only good off road and for towing, any Ranger even the Basic ones have the same Engine,The Tremor Has the same Engine as the basic model
Why ranger win? The power stock of 2.0 ranger is bigger than 2.4 hilux. On actual dyno, 2.4 Hilux 140hp vs 2.0 ranger 170hp. The difference is a bit big.
We own the 2.8 Hilux. In NZ that is the only size to buy. 150 kW and 500 Nm. Would be a different race then.

but this is not a fair race..should you not be race between 2.4 hilux and 2.2 ford ranger and 2.8 against the 2.0 of the fords?
Race them for all you like but we know who will stay on the road longer than the other!
Ford may be faster but we all know who the real world, tried and true longevity goes to. I don't see any rangers in combat either....

@@peterbrowning1251 fuck no The gd-6 is a bad truck I dont give a fucl what anyone says The D4-D is much better I had a gd-6 2.8 And I traded it un for a D4-D a few months later and its the best improvement I have done so far The gd-6 is good l99king and luxurious But the D4-D is more durable and stronger in my opinion The gd-6 can pull more loads cause the first 2 gears are power gears so it will win in a tug of war But have a race and you will see a different story In an uphill a D4-D will eat the gd-d for breakfast

Hilux is a work horse that's why it rides like a horse. While ranger is a lifestyle truck, that's why it drives like a car.

They are testing the acceleration Acceleration is a huge factor to offroading and working Doesn't help to have good torque but no horsepower
You don't buy a pickup for a drag race. You buy it to carry heavy loads and offroad travel. Still Hilux for me

Bakkies is not about speed and sprints its about engin lasting and value for money and if that is taken in consideration the Toyota out class the Ranger by far. The Ranger can never compare with a Toyota in the long run. End of story. I want a bakkie that will last longer and do the job not how fast it can runs.
The ranger is also first to arrive at the auto repair shop

Sorry, it’s a 2.3, but has 270HP/310lbs TQ. For $900, you can get more from different Ford Tune. I own one for Truck stuff only because it came with a steel box unlike the F150 and has a longer bed than the F150s typical 5 ft bed on the lot. It hauls stuff no problem. I’m not into trucks, so I daily drive a V6TT or H6 car depending on the weather
