Draft Horses on a Walking Plow
Stub and Stoney are back. Our most popular duo is hitched up to a walking plow to plow Alan's Mom's garden. Leonard explains how the walking plow works, but overall just a quiet video enjoying the team doing their job. Enjoy!

Thoroughly enjoyed this!!!! Blessings to you and your family!!💪🏿✊🏿
Great video! Thanks for showing us the work horses.
I enjoyed watching the horses work. Take care
Beautiful working team in my opinion 👍
Like the video, old school, the horses look excited to go to work👍
Love it! Great video, the team did a great job. I was sure the plow was going to be an easy pull but with it set that deep the horses had to work a little. Plus they had spent some time working before hand. Thanks for the video.
I remember my grandpa was on a team of horses with a couple other old guys. they pulled at the county fair. I remember one time the tractors had finished and they hooked the horses to the sled. All I remember is the announcer said after the horses took off was look at that 2 horse power pull. I bet you wish you could get them John Deeres to pull like that. they hauled the sled out of the arena unhooked and walk the horses back thru the arena to a standing ovation . One of the proudest moments of my life ..... thanks for dredging up these spectacular memories

What a great story, thank you for sharing.
absolutely amazing, yes I am old enough to remember this, As a kid growing up in the 40's the horses at least where I was brought up was on there way out. Horses are very smart and can learn things and remember. You treat them right and they remember that too, wrong they remember that as well.

That's how my grandpa plowed this place back in the 1920's. I have a Syracuse walking plow that came from my neighbors.
Loved seeing that photo of grandpa!! Never seen that one!!

Leonard said the horse with the blonde mane was Frank's, and Leonard was trying to plant potatoes and the horse was just giving him a hard time. He said John was pretty crippled up at that point, so he was yelling at Leonard and finally took over, and Leonard said he made that horse listen, and he planted the straightest rows. I like putting the old photos in the videos, kind of paying homage to the family horse connection.

@@trinitydairy seeing those makes me tear up because we dont have a lot of photos of grandpa!! Thanks for sharing!! When I seen Uncle put the reins around his neck all I could hear was my dad telling me the kne time he did that grandpa saw that and kicked his ass!!! Bahahahaha
I love a good of horses.. I known a elderly man that had 18 Mobile Welch ponies and that's where I learned how to drive him and take care of him and he gave me a lot of experience when for me to work on Mackinac Island carriage tours and to run carriage and take care of horses during a couple Summers

Thanks. Unfortunately KZread doesn't like to monetize any of our videos that shows a calf being born. It makes no sense to us.
Awesome videos. Really good to see honest work
Good video! Really enjoyed it
I really enjoyed that. Thank you. I was thinking the same thing that you asked your father in law, it looks like he is working as hard as the horses.

Amazing team.
Beautiful and powerful couple
Cool haven't seen that in awhile great video 👍
Nice show of the team pulling the plow. I need to show this to my mom, she's 94 and her family had 4 horses when she was growing up. I ask her what their names were and she always remembers 3 of them, just doesn't remember the name of the 4th.
Reminds me of Miacheal Landon plowing on Little House. Kool
Cool video
Nice team
GOD BLESS
Bet they don't even feel the plow behind them👍
Gotta hand it to the ole timers, they got a work out and then some. God bless Trinity Dairy 🙏
Nice team i thought you were jim with horses on youtube. Atfirst nice team the one in furrow you looks like he isent scared to work like she sead young buck is in the furrow and he looks like hes trying to make it easy on his friend
WE ALWAYS LET OUR CHITS SET A FEW DAYS WITH THE EYS ON THEM BEFORE WE PLANTED THEM
Guys can you explain why the plough straps rub against the horses rear legs,.
@trinitydairy
4 жыл бұрын
The tugs come down from the horse's shoulders, so they don't hang very far off the body. The tugs don't rub constantly if that's what you're wondering. When the horses turn is when they rub for the most part, and that's just how a harness works. The horses pull the tugs tight, and when they turn the tugs don't turn with the horse's back end because they are hooked to the evener. If the horse swings it's back end out more, they'll rub until they straighten out the piece of equipment they're pulling. It doesn't cause any irritation or anything. I hope that answered your question.
In your opinion, what horse breed are the best for farm work? Many people says Percheron are the best other say mules are the best.
@trinitydairy

From what we've heard, mules probably are the best. They are smarter than horses. But out of the three options, Belgians have a special spot in our hearts. I think a lot depends on the individual animals too, before I would ever say one breed is the absolute best.

It's just the 2 now. He bought a third this last fall, but he sold him after someone needed a match for their team.
Just think about doing 40 acres with horses that would be a great work out program. Some folks I know could use that type of exercise.
Jenny you and al Should have a Little contest just A couple rows You SCARED 😨 💀 💀
Why not starting on the center of the portion you try to plow,in that case every trip counts instead of wasting a trip going empty...beautiful horses,I have them to and work with them as well.
@trinitydairy
4 жыл бұрын
If he starts in the center there would be a high ridge down the middle and it would hold water, just plowing it one way allows the whole garden to have even moisture. Thanks for watching!

Trinity Dairy If you start on the center and come back right next-to your first line. You will end up with a higher ground that way the whole land will be elevated, if you step on the left and go on the right when those two parts meet then yes you have a canal on the center,Anyways you guys keep the good work,I love horses and working with them as well,I live in phoenix Arizona but I have a horse ranch in Romania.
You need a hill side plow

Would he learn quicker if you did the other horse first? Or would he nudge them over, like a dairy cow that just has to have the same stanchion every milking?
