Yea, in the end if you would look at it black and white he might have had A choice but if you stop for a second to think he never had a choice that was possible to actually choose.. Draco had a choice to leave everything he knew, the father he wanted to please so badly, the mother who loved him and who he loved as well, the people and the place he had, that he knew.. he would be alone, with no one because even if he did chose the right side everyone would still see him as the mean bully and deatheater, now you’ll might be able to do that but honestly I would never be able to do anything like that.. So yes Draco had a choice but did he really? I know many will say that he didn’t NEED to be mean to everyone, to that I say how the fuc do you know? Also have you never heard that the one who is the meanest and bullies others the most is the one who was ones bullied/ is scared to be bullied and needs love and friendship the most? And did you ever notice how he was just a kid, how he should have had time to grow up and to mature? Something that he didn’t have before he had to choose a side, the side where he was wanted and where his family was, or the one where he would be hated and he had no one? Which one would YOU choose? Here is explaining Draco’s life. As a child he had a smile on his face. Even if it was from making fun of people. You could tell he was happy in the first movie. In the second movie, he was slightly worse. His father seemed to neglect him and his father never loved him. He was disappointed in him for almost dying after falling off the broom. But once he became a teenager- his smile vanished. He became more broken than ever. He wanted to cry every moment. He did not want to hurt anyone. You could see how he was watching Harry his whole life. You could tell he was jelous of his friendships. Draco only had Crabbe and Goyle/ Goyle and Blaise- who were never true real friends. His whole life he had no one. When he was younger he would play with Dobby secretly in his room. Are you wondering how dobby knew so much about him when he had never gone anywhere but the Manor? Who do you think told him everything. But then when dobby left he was alone again. His whole life he didn’t want to be bad. When his parents called him over- you could tell he was waiting for someone to grab his hand and tell him to stop. He had no choice. He had no where else to go. As an adult he was still broken inside. Especially after losing Astoria and almost losing Scorpius. His whole life he wished wasnt real. One scene he was standing on top of the astronomy tower looking down- thinking about committing. He didn’t want any of this. He. Deserved. Better.

(Please someone reply because I need to see where you Draco defenders come from) Please tell me people don’t actually try to defend Draco 🤨 I’m on a re-read of the books and I literally forgot just how nasty he was. He calls people slurs, fat shames people, poor shames people, wishes death upon Hermione multiple times, calls Neville pathetic over and over again and so much more horrible things. Yes he is a boy who was kinda used by old voldy but he was a terrible person before that. He’s a realistic character thought. When people are brought up by horrible people they become horrible. But You cant justify every mean person by saying “their family is mean” because that would cancel out every bad person ever. I also hear people saying he was abused which is wrong on so many levels. His dad spoiled him and his mother loved him to pieces. Lucius was a bit hard on him but he loved him Draco wasn’t evil. He was just a bully and a whiny spoiled kid who had a deep hatred of the golden trio. In the movies he is a semi likable character and if you only watch them I kinda could see where Draco defenders come from but as someone who HATES the movies and adores the books I have to say there is no denying that Draco was a bully

@@lucycoyne2731 we are talking about the movie not the books, there are scenes that are different from each other. and we all have different opinions/perspective. as someone who grew up in a toxic household, i was taught that i should always be the number 1. when i was younger i always look down on people thinking im the best because that's what my grandparents said to me. i once cheated on a test because i was afraid that if i fail my family will dump me. why? because they were never proud of me,, theyre only happy if i get the top spot, and thats it. i relate to draco so much that's why im defending him. i had a choice (to change my mind) because im an ordinary girl, but draco didnt have a choice. i have many things which he didnt have that's why i pity him more. draco was a kid, and ofc he will depend on his family. but the thing is his family is pretty toxic,, which affected him in many ways. he was hoping that someone would tell him to stay,, but no one did so he chose his mother (the one who gave him a little affection). he was confused for his whole life.

and even bullies have a reason. maybe they didnt receive the attention they should have received or maybe they're jealous of them. i agree that it's wrong though. but i just want to tell you that it's hard to change your mindset esp if you're taught to live that way since zero years old. it's not easy to turn your back to your family because you have nowhere else to go. draco was confused and scared. he has his own reasons that we dont know. jk rowling wanted him to look like the bad guy in the movie and that's exactly what happened.

Draco was definitely the most misunderstood character in hp.

Emma Watson actually said in one of the movies ( can't remember which on maybe half blood), Tom actually had a really hard script even though it wasn't a huge part but it was a main section of the films as he had to show so many different emotions to show how conflicted Draco was. It's really incredible.

Also another thing i've sort of thought about it when he walks over to voldemort. He waits for someone to stop him but no one did, not even the teachers knew how conflicted he was. It honestly hurts.

in the scene where his parents ask him to come over it’s like he’s looking for someone to ask him to stay. he feels as if no one wants him so he goes to the dark side. his whole life he pushed people away by being mean bc he didn’t know what love was. not to mention he felt like he had no choice. he watched harry throughout the years have so many friends and be the chosen one. for once he just wanted to be chosen and of importance. it makes me wonder if someone showed him kindness if he would have changed. he never had real friends who cared and his father from a young age belittled him. he felt like he had nothing to lose.

he was never given a chance to be on the other side. of course he would go to the only person who showed his some type of affection (his mother) cuz she was all he had. and even then he hesitated, because he knew. he knew that it wasn’t the right side, and he was clearly willing to defy his mother if someone had asked him to. but no one did. i don’t even know if it would’ve been worth it to stay, to loose the only person who cared, just to be on the right side. because no one else truly liked him, so who would he have had(probably no one)??

Malfoy was sent to recruit Harry but in town Harry heard Draco and that's why he didn't shake hand with him in the castle.

In the scene where his parents call him, Draco's expression remains defiant when his father beckons. Upon hearing his mother's calls, though, he softens. Then, when his mother leads him away, his father attempts to put his arm around him too. Draco dodges and you see a certain resentment in his father's eyes. Hard to believe this was just acting.

I saw his pain, his tears, and most importantly, his fear. Draco is more than just his mistakes. Notice how he did NOT give a definitive yes or no to recognizing Harry Potter. He knew it was him. Draco chose hope over fear in that moment.

Severus raised him to be nonviolent, that’s why Draco disarmed Dumbledore instead of outright killing him. It’s one of the biggest reasons Harry didn’t leave Draco, a KNOWN Death Eater, to die. Harry knew how scared Draco was after his vision of Voldemort forcing Draco to use Crucio against his will. Draco didn’t want anyone to die because of him. He just wanted to protect his mother. What would you do to protect your family? My answer: ANYTHING. What’s your answer?

Sirius went through the same things. What is the difference, though? He was good. He did whatever it took to stay on the good side. Draco, however, went to the bad side without ease. Can you even count how many times Draco praised death eaters, supported them, defended their actions, had the exactly same beliefs as them, we noticed all that throught the book. Who forced him? His father ended in Azkaban at the end of the fifth book, while Draco became a death eater in the sixth book and his mother never became one in the first place, so there was no one to force him, also, if he was forced, why he was a proud death eater at the beginning of the sixth book? Saying this is offensive you also say that all true Potterheads are offensive because they understand his real character. Draco is the boy who made all the wrong choices, that is not even an opinion, it's a fact.

But you obviously never read them, so don't pretend you know his original real character while you have no idea, you only know his chaged version in the movies. Saying that he is forced to the dark side is completely opposite of what was really mentioned and showed in the books, no book reader ever said that, they all complain how Draco is not the boy who had no choice and that he had bunch of them, includimg joining the dark side since it was his childhood dream. There is no way you missed that if you really read them, Draco in the books and Draco in the movies are two completely different characters, but book character is his real and original character, if you read the books you would know he isn't a good person.

He did, everyone does. For example, Sirius. He was also someone who was despised by his parents, always pushed into the pure-blood stagnation, but he revolted. He met great friends, and he decided to be a good person. HE CHOSE TO BE A GOOD PERSON. Dramco could have done so too, he could have chosen to be a great human, befriending Harry and helping him, even secretly, and he would have had Dumbledore's protection and good company. Instead, he decided to follow the path his parents carved for him and become vile.

Honestly, if I was in Harry's shoes during draco's mental breakdown, I would hug him and say that I'm here to help you ,instead of hurting him. I would do my best to make him happy. In my opinion he did everything to make his family proud, especially his father . He was controlled, a boy who never had any choice, his hands were handcuffed and mouth zipped ,he was like a puppet for the dark lord. He loved his family but no one saw that . He wanted to be good but his father..... His wand had unicorn hair which states that he has a heart ,he has something nice deep inside his heart .

Well, and I think this was intentional, while Draco was mean and confrontational to Harry, Harry was never, not once, kind to Draco, really until the last book, and that was after Draco had allowed him to escape from the Manor. Draco offered his hand in friendship to Harry, and Harry turned it down. And you can see in the first book that Draco doesn’t really hate Harry, it’s all just fun and games to him. When he gets older, it becomes real animosity, but it didn’t start that way. It’s an interesting thought, just what if Harry had once reached his hand out in friendship to Draco?

Draco deserved so much better. It was as he was waiting for someone to tell him “don’t go”. But no one understood him, only Narcissa truly cared about him. I just wish I could hug him. He didn’t have a choice.

So basically Draco is only mean and cruel is because he doesn't want to look like a disappointment to his family and he wants his family to be proud of something he is not. Draco is trapped under his family's expectations and rules, he just wants to be free and happy like everyone else. He wants to be nice and good. For the first few times when I watched all Harry Potter movies, I hated Draco Malfoy because I never realised the real truth about his life. And then once I started to realise, he is becoming my favourite character because I understand him and because he is just a boy who wants to be normal like everyone else in Hogwarts. I can see his pain and I know that he is NOT alone..

Gotta love that, till the point his parents called attention to him, Draco was in among the crowd. Not out in front, but he was still outside, in the courtyard with everyone else. He could have just stayed inside and hidden somewhere after he ran off from the trio, but he hadn't. He was right there next to Luna, ready to meet the same fate as everyone else, till he was singled out.

As kids: we admire heroes and hate villains As teenagers: we start to love and understand more the villains than the heroes 💚 Draco 💚

I’m sobbing just from watching this. I’ve loved Draco for quite some time, but not until now did I truly understand what he was going through. Draco wasn’t chosen, he was forced at age SIXTEEN due to his father’s failures. It wasn’t his choice. All Draco really wanted was to be truly happy. When I saw him crying in the bathroom, that’s when I really lost it. His pain was my pain. I felt my heart breaking for Draco.

Draco was never evil, he was forced to be something he isnt. If you take the incident with Dumbeldore: draco was lowering his wand when Snape came out of nowhere with other death eaters. Draco was crying over how much pressure he was under and seeing Katie Bell triggered that. Harry, instead of seeing Draco's side, jumped to conclusions thinking Draco wanted Katie dead. The only reason Draco took that mark was so he and his mother could live Draco only went over to the Death Eaters at the end because his mother called him. Draco looked away at his father's request but when his mother asked he went over. Draco didn't tell Bellatrix that it was Harry when he clearly knew it was. He wanted an escape but knew he never had one because of the way everyone saw him. Nobody even considered that maybe Draco didn't want the mark, maybe he was forced, maybe he didn't want it but Voldemort was living in his house! How could he say no without an escape option!? Harry's story doesn't really effect me as much as Draco's. Harry had a lot of people who loved him and Draco had no one, he had love off his mother but, how much can you love your child if you let them join the Dark Side and not fight? I'm not saying Harry's story isn't sad, it is, I'm saying that in my opinion, Draco's is worse. Neville's story is even sader than Harry's too, in my opinion. Although his parents aren't dead, I think it would hurt more them being alive and never being able to remember them and them basically not being alive.

He thought those thoughts because they were put there by his parents who were probably constantly saying "we're so much better then *insert muggle born here" because our blood is pure" or something like that so that's why he thought that as he got older I think his opinions change. I think a lot of the things he said and did was because his father has the dark mark and was a supporter of Voldemort he was evil and made Draco evil when it wasn't who Draco was. WHOMST'D, you might be right, but you still can’t blame Harry. Draco was being judgemental and if Harry had shook his hand, it would have validated Draco’s actions/words. Harry was never really the victim, he had people to help him, friends who cared about him, and even if his real parent died, he always had people by his side. Draco never had a life of his own. He was forced into every decision. Thrown around, and made to do things no child should ever have to face. His own parents controlled him and never allowed him the freedom to choose. His father was manipulative and abusive. Draco may be a bully, but what do you expect a child to do when they're not even in control of their own life Edit: the above point was a bit exaggerated. I know Harry has been through a lot as well, it's just the fact that Draco's issues go unnoticed and many fans hate him for who he was forced to be Edit 2: SORRY GUYS I know that my comment was very biased for Draco's side. Just because Draco went through a lot of things that went unnoticed, Harry's shouldn't matter. Draco had no choice, people saw the bad in him not the good, they didn’t know what was going on in his life. He’s a good person, he tried his best to help the other kids but in the end, I think he was on of the best, you could see the pain in his eyes as he watched the other kids in pain, he wanted to help but he couldn’t. He was broken, confused, no one to turn to, and most of all alone. That’s the part that gets you, being alone. I cried for him, I felt his pain, I wish they understood what her was going through, and how he was trying to do good. But in the end, he had no choice.

I feel so sad for him. My life is pretty much like this but Draco's life is way more sadder and darker.

If they hadn't deleted that scene where Draco tosses Harry his wand, that whole movie would've changed EVERYTHING.

it would have been so o of character for draco. he chose to be a death eater. everything he did was to save himself and his family. he would have never betrayed voldemort bc he wouldn’t risk himself or his parents dying

@@lukebappo he did choose to be a death eater. he was bragging about it on the train to hogwarts. yes, he did have an "impossible decision" when it came to killing dumbledore or letting himself and his family die, but he had a choice to become a death eater. he talks about it in the book on the train to hogwarts during half-blood prince. so don't tell me my point is "dead wrong" and "makes no friggin sense" when it's literally canon.

@@fadinasser1483 ill be honest, they both had moments where they were deeply hurt but the other still wouldn't sympathize, harry potter knew dracos plan of killing dumbledore and he knew he was a death eater. But harry did save draco from the fires in the requirement room from the deathly hallows part 2. which is why draco threw his wand to harry potter when he woke up and draco was relieved.

I noticed something at the end he didn't go because his father told him to. He went because his mother called him. He truly loved and cared for his mother. We can all relate to that

I think the most moving bit was at 4:05 when he was on their side and was told to come by his mother and he hesitated and stayed on that side for another 3 seconds before going to Voldemort's side! DRACO MALFOY WAS NOT A BAD PERSON...He was put on pressure by his mother and father and was forced to do bad things by his father. If you agree that Draco was not a bad guy, make this blue ⬇

his mother cared more for him, she agreed that draco was just a boy, and her son shouldnt have to go through such traumatic experiences with no choice. when voldemort asked draco's mom to see if harry is alive or dead, she asked harry potter if draco is alive in a very soft whisper, and harry gently slowly nodded his head without anyone seeing but draco's mom.

but he made so many mistakes and he could choose to stop but he was just too horrible, he bullied people, he wished death upon hermione, he made fun of people for things they couldnt controll. so he was basically a horrible person and when he is hurting everyone is sad

@@just2random58 But he has no other choice, his family hopes that he will. His actions were the result of social and family pressure. You would probably have a lot of trouble if it wasn't. Also, it is never too late to retify.

As an adult, I relate to Draco a lot more. My parents were terrible people who hated everyone who weren’t like them. I’d been put in many bad positions and had no choice but to go along with their wishes, even if it felt wrong in my heart. I no longer speak to them and I’m living my best life full of love and acceptance.

Draco Malfoy: The boy who didn’t have a choice. Nobody was there for him when he needed them the most. Nobody helped him through the times that were difficult. His enemy was himself. He never got to choose his own path or choices. He was thrown around like a marionette. His father was manipulative and abusive. His mother never helped him. Dumbledore knew. He knew he was struggling. But no. He didn’t help him. He could’ve helped. Helped him through his hard times. But he didn’t. He let him suffer. Nobody else cared, either. He was easy to blame because he was a Slytherin. Becoming a Death Eater was bound to happen because of his parents. He tried to carve it out of his skin MULTIPLE TIMES. He got hurt. He watched death. He stood through it all. He did what he did, for example about to kill Dumbledore, for the protection of his parents. He was the boy who didn’t have a choice to make the right choices. He was forced for the wrong ones. He was the boy who didn’t have a choice. Sorry I’m ranting.

The moment he went to his parents and no one stopped him or even said just a word must've broken him even more. I'm sure he had the feeling that no one really cared for him because of what he used to do, when he had no choice actually.

He’ll never find happiness... through all of his life.. he’ll never find happiness. And it’s so sad.. we all look at him like he’s a bad guy, when deep down.. he’s just hurting.. and he can’t break out of the prison his father made in his mind. He’s caging himself in desperate means of escape, shutting out anyone who could help him. He know he wants help, but his pride would hurt. His father would make him hurt. He’s just a scared little boy.. trapped.. desperate for freedom... 😔

Imagine being Draco. Being so excited to go to Hogwarts as a kid. Then, you just see it, all go down in flames. When Snape killed dumbledore, when Bellatrix destroyed the great hall, and then when the battle of Hogwarts happened. Just, imagine that.

Reason's why i feel bad for draco. "he was force" "He doesn't have a choice" "He doesn't want to die that's why he did all of the things that his father told him" "He wasn't evil he was broken" "He was chosen that's why he does what everyone tells him" "He's nice not evil" Draco, Wanted to be nice. @@lukebappo omg stfu with this “he didn’t have a choice” bullshit. draco was the biggest piece of shit there ever was. he had a choice to bully the golden trio, he constantly called hermione a mudblood and made fun of her looks, he made fun of harrys dead parents, and he bodyshamed molly weasley and called arthur worthless infront of fred and george, and you know what, he did all of those things with a smile on his face. no, he didn’t have a choice to be a death eater, but he wasn’t a good person.

it breaks my heart that everyone calls draco mean and a bully when really he isn't. i've been rewatching the movies and rereading the books and i noticed a lot of times that the golden trio are the ones who say something mean first. for example, whenhe first called hermione a mudblood, in second year, hermione insulted him first because he was bragging about the brooms his father got for the team. he's allowed to brag, but hermione got annoyed and insulted him. so he insulted her, which ron responded to by trying to jinx him and make him vomit slugs. i honestly believe that ron deserved it when tthe spell backfired. lmao, i was kinda ranting for way to long about one scene, but i feel like its things like these that people miss because they think the golden trio can do no wrong. i honestly feel really bad for draco and i hate that most people misunderstand him. he's had a difficult life, contrary to what many people think. you know what bother me? Draco was in the bathroom crying and having a panic attack and harry walks in and his first reaction is to put an hex on him, one he dosen't know what it does and is marked for enemies. how in any way is that ok???and people say draco's the bad guy. i wish more people would understand what he's really like. also, i am so mad at jk rowling for kiling off astoria. how could she kill her? Poor Draco. After having a cold harsh death eater father and a mother who chose to go along with it, its so unfair that he finally finds a nice person that actually loves him and means a lot to him, and then she died. jk rowling wasn't fair to him.It's just so unfair. Draco really was the boy with no choice. or rather, the boy who could choose only between two terrible outcomes, becoming a murderer or being murdered. at sixteen. can we just talk about how young he was? he was a teenager that was forced to become a death eater and murder the greatest wizard alive, who even voldemort couldn't kill, at sixteen , or his enire family would probably be tortured and murdered. And he had to have voldemort live at his house, had to watch people, some of which he knew. tortured, taken prisoner, and killed, when he waasn't even a legal adult. Its just so unfair. how can people think he's a spoiled brat? anyway, sorry for the really long and confusing rant, im just upset at how misunderstood Draco is.
