    It's really interesting to see real ships replicated in this game. Most other KZreadrs playing this game seem min-max, and the resulting designs don't capture the spirit of real warships.

    So, I have a question that might seem kind of aggressive, but I mean it entirely neutrally and it's coming from a place of wanting to understand, not as an attack: If you are interested in realistic ship designs that do have to cater to the realities of, well, real life, then why play a game where you can make unrealistic ships and can customize ships at all? Wouldn't games that limit you to real world ships be more what you are looking for? It seems to me like if the ships that the world got in real life were generally the best that could be given the technology and other factors such as politics, and you want to stick to realistic ship designs, then why play a game that gives the freedom to build ships that don't have those constraints? Again, I ask this because it's something I don't understand and I don't at all mean to come across as "just go play something else if you don't like this kind of thing", I think that kind of response is childish. But I just don't understand why if you want to play with realistic ships you'd be interested in a game that seems like it offers more freedom than that.

    @@Shenaldrac Well, from what I can tell, this is about the most realistic ship building game in existence, it makes sense for people to be asking for a more realistic experience when every other game that does this sort of thing is essentially a glorified Minecraft builder.

    Drach, I'm actually rather impressed, that we can come as close to building historical ships as we can, given that the Naval Academy set-piece scenarios are intended to be the tutorial for the game, and we're not even into the final Alpha version of the game yet. Those that have accessed what is called the "Debug Menu", where you can unlock all the hull types and tech in the game and use them in the Academy missions, have reported that there are already something like 80 different hull types in the game files for the Campaign mode, and god knows what's available as far as guns, tech etc. Apparently, what we're seeing in the standard Academy scenarios, is a very limited selection of what will be available in the main Campaign mode. And there may yet be even more added, as I'm hearing a couple hints that the Alpha 3 version is in the offing. For my money, even with just the tutorials available and being in early Alpha, this game is already far more enjoyable and of higher quality than WoWS - such that I haven't even bothered with WoWS in nearly a month.

    Ah Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnought. I really hope that the studio that made this finish this and expand the game into the other eras of naval combat. Right now this is the only game I know of that isn't a glorified version of Minecraft that let's you design and build ships and it'd be amazing to be able to mix and match eras for What If battles or just to get as close to a first hand look as possible at evolution of naval design. And am I hearing things? I swear I can hear LCARS47 in the background in a couple of places.

    Really depends on the year. Pre-radar, you don't have that high chance of hitting your targets, especially if thier ship, or yours are actively evasive. Post-radar, then yeah, gunfire was pretty accurate.

  • @alganhar1

    @alganhar1

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, they were, this is the days before modern style computing systems, a whole list of reasons could lie behind shells going off target, from slight changes in the amount of propellant to various environmental effects including temp changes, wind variation etc. This is before you count the things you needed to know about your actual guns, so how worn are they, barrel temp etc, and THEN add the fact that both the gunnery platform and its target are moving relative to each other, not only laterally but in higher sea states a certain amount of movement up and down as well.... It results in a hugely complex series of calculations that need to be made, and man of the variable are constantly changing to require constant updating. Naval gunnery at range was HARD....

    World of Warships is wildly inaccurate in the way it portrays gun accuracy. Hit rates of less than 5% were the norm during the battleship area. (Jutland saw an average of less than 3% if I remember correctly).

  • @IonoTheFanatics

    @IonoTheFanatics

    4 жыл бұрын

    As Kenneth mentioned, hit rate in WW1 till early WW2 basically amounts to single digit percentage chance of hitting. Most ships in both WW combat record expend HUNDREDS of shells per gun, and achieve a handful of hits at most. This gets better once the more modern ships especially with ships like the one USN had by mid WW2 onward which are equipped with significantly better fire control computer (mechanical computer) and radar assistance. Using both combined (radar feeding the data directly to the fire control computer which significantly speeds up the computation of firing solution and it's accuracy) late Battleships in USN fleet like Iowa was able to bracket it's target in the first salvo... granted... that still means they missed completely with entire salvo worth of shells... but to be able to get the range right and bracket the target normally require a number of salvos in most Battleships and a fair number of shells.... so the arrival of the radar assisted fire control computer by late WW2 herald the first time a warship can actually stand a chance to actually hit their target within reasonable time and shots. Unfortunately for them... Missiles were coming... and were about to render the guns mostly obsolete in surface combat... just as they were getting good.
