"Hi Deb !
I felt in love (but progressively and it became an obsession) with your Modern Mirror. At first I didn't really guess if I was in admiration or just like "yet again another new 80's revival modern cold wave album like many others" but it took time for me to realize it was a masterpiece and emotionnaly and soundwise totally in my likes, like the synthesis of everyone I love in this "genre".
I started planning to execute an old dream : made a cover of an entire album. I tried to do this with many albums I love like Yello's "You Gotta Say Yes" and The Cure's "Disintegration" but I did't managed to do something interesting.
I pictured myself "Modern Mirror" like the Record I should have done myself with my own musical solo project called Stolearm, something like a strange kind of funny jealousy or quantics, like : "in another parallel dimension, I wrote and made this record" kind of troubling and silly sensation.
I also thought a lot about the fact that Athens is a emotionally charged city, with people and strong presence of music in this greek culture. And also the concept of Mimesis, and the myth of Narcissus, like a whole bunch of concepts that suggested to me that I should really do the job of covering the entire album, even if I won't be satisfied with what I've done.
I just ditched Noise Of the void, because it's the only song I don't really like and because I wanted to include a cover of the previous Demonstration album which also became one of my fav recent albums (more minimalistic, direct and essential).
I struggled a lot with the vocals because it was very difficult for me. Initially I wanted to copy the album as close as I could, trying to get the same sounds, same mix, (I tried this more or less with Ellipsis and Other Side) but then I decided to assume the fact that the guitar sound is replaced with a synth and go forward re-interpreting everything for the other songs.
It was difficult because it's not my former language, but I named the song in French and approx. translated the lyrics of out of sequence in french.
This album had to run trough my body and my voice in order to exorcise my obsession.
Some might call some fan art stuff but I don't want to consider it like this because it has some "nice" and "light" connotation. I would like to release it in a certain way or context that fits the concept of your album, like mimesis stuff, pirate recording, couterfeit, fake stuff, plagiarism, impersonator, bootleg, fake album spread on Soulseek as if it was the real album with the same duration and tracklist, or simply as a cover album on KZread or Bandcamp, I don't know, do you have any idea? I'd really love to do something with you on this album.
I'd love to hear your words and feedback on this stuff
Much Love!
Lühje (Stolearm
