Just wanted to say, after countless oil changes on every thing I've ever owned over the last thirty years, I've replaced a crush washer on an oil pan bolt exactly zero times. Never had a leak. Just sayin.

Just depends on how chowdered it is, if a gorilla tweaks it down to 200 ft lbs then it will definitely need replaced often. Proper torque will make it last many cycles. I always use a new one if provided but if not then don’t sweat it.

Honestly... I feel the same way due to working on cars. My truck doesnt even have a crush washer, they dont need them. They are built into the head of the bolt, so long as you use proper torque spec, or at least somewhere in the given range, you'll never have a leak or issue. Now do you like slamming it with an impact it can cause problems later on, but you got to be real dumb to mess it up.

My dad gave me this tip for older bikes and for people that live up north. Keep the old used oil and store it. Every month or so take some of that oil and rub it all over the skid plate and the frame and on the outside of the nuts and bolts. It acts a protective layer and it keeps rust from happening. I even do it with my old car, and it does work.

Talon, you can leave that skid on during the oil change - it is formed to clear around the engine's drain plug, and the frame's plug. Unless you are OCD about keeping the backside of the skid clean, then carry on. Glad you bought the DR-Z

My mechanic said that you check the oil level with the bike running. He said that if you fill it to the mark on the stick without it running, then you'll be blowing oil out the exhaust once you start it. That doesn't appear to be the case in your video but it was worth mentioning.

Old video - I know - but I had to just add that yes, the Suzuki manual does say 10-40. However, if you refer to the graph in the manual, there are specific oil weights that correspond to different temp ranges. For me in NY we only really can enjoy riding during the 70+ degree days into the summer. I’m using 20w-50 because it’s rated for 14-104 degrees F as per the owners manual. 10-40 is rated for temps in the negative up to 104f (can’t recall exact number). I prefer having a little more sheer protection when sitting in traffic during the summer here in NY. Hope this will help someone. Hope this helps someone

Have you considered replacing the street tires with the same size Continental TK80 tires? If I buy another dualsport in the future, I may go that route as I like the seat height better with smaller wheel/tire setup. Most of my offroad riding are dirtroad and the trails in my area are pretty good, not to rocky as the downfall is less ground clearance.. Then you have best of both world's and those tirrs are a great wearing tire on the road. Only place they don't do well is in slicker mud situation's. Like those dried up mud puddles that aren't quite dry yet. Slip and slide! Another nice video man. 😎🤙

you may want to use conventional motor oil for your break ins because it can reduce the chances of your bike oil burning by increasing friction between the cylinder and piston rings during the break in period and when you use synthetic it wont let the rings fully form to the cylinder walls because of how good the lubrication is from full synthetic just my opinion feel free to not give a shit to care about it good video btw

Where did you get it and what's a good price for a 2005 vs a new one? I'm thinking about getting one too, any tips are appreciated

Would you suggest this as a beginner bike? I have experience from a raptor 700 but wanted a supermoto.
