DR Wood chipper won't run. can we find the problem?

#FilmoraGo This customer has been wanting to drop this off since just after I got covid back in June. Fast forward 6 months later he finally got it to me. I'm not sure why it sat for so long that the carb got messed up, but I have my suspicions. The gas tank is higher than the carb and I think that the gas was left on, and then gas was coming out the carb AND It most likely filled the crankcase with gas which would explain why it has fresh oil and new air filter. Also the main jet/port in the carb was installed wrong (that's my guess). Not a difficult repair or diagnosis. I spent $20 on the wheels and rims and another $12 on the carb kit. I will install that when it comes in. I'll make $80 for a couple hours of labor and driving for parts. Not bad. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Crittercam. Yeah Jax is my newest best friend. He is a 75lb Belgian Malinois. My son found him at the shelter and decided I needed another dog after my Nala passed a year and a half ago. He is the perfect dog for me. Very smart and tons of energy. He has 4.5 acres to run on and another dog to play with. I've had him about 6 months now. He was so skinny when we got him. Now he is in perfect shape. Happy New Year to you too my friend. Stay safe. 👍😷😁🍻

Question: I got a tach so I can set speeds at a professional level when I restore equipment. I've easily been able to find specs for things like chainsaws. I just got a Ryobi BP 42 backpack blower tuned really well (after cleaning out the carb, which seems to have been the problem with a screen clogged with paraffin) and no amount of Googling turns up any specs. I assume the Low is probably around 3000 RPMs, give or take a couple hundred, but have no idea what the High RPMs should be. I suspect it won't be nearly as high as a chainsaw and maybe in the range of a string trimmer but I really want to set it just right so I protect the equipment no matter what. Any suggestion as to an approximate High end range? Even better, could you direct me to a source for that information? Right now I have the High set at around 7000 and the Low is set at around 2700 and those seem to be the sweet spots. Of course I've backed off on the High end to not run too lean, but the adjustment on this machine is very tweaky and I could be off because I just don't have enough experience to know exactly what it should sound like, even though I do know what four-stroking sounds like on a chainsaw. Thanks a lot for reading!

Hey Rein how's it going? That's a really good question and if you are looking for a specific number for your tach I don't have it. I will share this with you tho. A blower is one one the few machine that the instant it is running, it is under load. It doesn't wait for a clutch to engage, or be put in gear. When it is running at just Lean of peak, that's it. Imagine full throttle is 7000 RPM. By placing your hand over the nozzle it takes the load off the engine and it will now rev even higher than the 7000 RPMs you have set. When you remove your hand it will go back to where you have set it. The point being that you can't over rev the engine while in normal operation. It's only purpose is to move a large volume of air very powerfully. It's not like a chainsaw where bucking 3" limbs is the same as cutting a 10" tree. Dry wood is more difficult than green. A weed whipper can trim grass or deep weeds which is also loading that engine differently. Again, the point being the blower is the blower, it's a different animal. Set it and forget it. I hope this helps and does not confuse you. Stay safe my friend. 👍😷😁

ulitepilot aka Zombie Dave Thanks so much for your reply and explanation! That makes perfect sense. It also explains why Ryobi cautions not to run the blower without the tube connected and why it runs a bit faster when it IS CONNECTED - more resistance to airflow (and why tuning it with the tube missing is pointless - ask me how I know) 😉 There’s a typo of some kind up there in your response when you wrote “just Len of peak”. Can you clarify that one sentence for me please?

@@Rein_Ciarfella Lean of peak. So when you are making final adjustments on the high speed jet, you will turn it in to get maximum RPMs then back it off just a bit. That's what I refer to as "Lean of peak performance". Sorry about the confusion. 🥴

ulitepilot aka Zombie Dave Thanks! I’m new to this so take my suggestion with a grain of salt, but I believe what you mean is slightly or just rich off peak. The intention is to not run it too lean or it stands a chance of imploding, correct? Maybe “just short of peak”?
