Didn’t get the surgery but I followed this diet and I’ve lost 85lbs! I pretty much followed someone recovering from surgery and then went into the 2-6 months and have stayed there for the last 5 months should be down another 2-3 pounds a week and April 6th 2022 would be a full year! Why did I do it this way? It’s a psychological endeavor you have to be able to make those changes and keep them sustainable or you will simply revert back to the habits you had before a surgery! The change happens upstairs in your head! 💯

One of my favorite meals (losing weight without wls) is to dice up an avocado and sautee it only slightly in a tbsp of avocado oil or butter (pinch of salt optional based on taste and sodium needs). Plate it and cover it to keep warm. Fry 2 eggs sunny side up or over easy. Lay them gently on top of the avocado. Sautee 1/4-1/2 cup fresh or frozen spinach and lay it on top of the eggs. Add a lite salt and pepper (again, optional). It is a one pan meal that only takes a few minutes and is packed with healthy fats and proteins, vitamin D3, griffonia, folate, and so many other nutrients. And it's filling.

I love you Dr. V! I wish my surgeon spoke to me the way you are speaking now. My surgeon wanted me to exercise shortly after my surgery. My instincts told me that my stomach was not ready for exercise. I'm so glad I've found you on KZread! We WLS patients need to hear the truth. Amen! I've seen so many WLS patients on KZread complaining that they regret having the surgery. Are you crazy! This is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. It's work and I work at it everyday. I decide on what exercise I will do for the day and what meals I will have for the day. Taking care of myself is forever. Thank you for breaking it down. It makes my daily life so much easier. Please continue providing us with your great knowledge!

I found a Dr. V video about a week ago and I’ve been binge watching everything I can find. I’m 3 years out, my bariatric team told me to do everything Dr. V says not to do. We even had an hour long group discussion on pouch reset. After watching Dr. V I’m frustrated, feel I have to learn all over again, and have lost confidence in my team. I’ve been back in track for 2 weeks lost 7 lbs of the 40 I regained this year. Thank you Dr. V

I had the average program. That said, from day one I knew in my soul that this was my journey and I had to take ownership of it. So from day 1 (6 months before surgery) I started to try new foods. Revolutionary! I learned new cooking techniques and I *changed my palate* so that I now enjoy healthier foods and I know which foods have what nutrition. While the pamphlet I got didn't really help much I already had assumed the responsibility for how to succeed. I'm the one who's going to put whatever in my mouth... not them. I'm going to live with the results... not them. Would it have been nice to get more support? Sure. But it came down to me in the end. 7 months out, 2lbs from a normal BMI. Never stalled. Loving life!!!

Dr. V, great video! I wish you would have started with "IF you can't do the liquid phase don't have wls!" There are so many in my wls groups that complain constantly about this- even those that were informed beforehand. It is crazy! On another note, I went through a weight loss program with a nutritionist for over a year before surgery, but their goal was for me to avoid bariatric surgery. I stopped talking about it with them because they started every sentence with "All you have to do is..." :/ I learned about bariatric choices once I connected with my surgeon and received guidelines. I think we have to be proactive and seek out and ask specific questions beyond our surgical handouts. A local support group has been helpful for me because it is run by the nutritionist and psychologist.

You are so right. It is so annoying listening to people complain about a liquid diet. They complain about a pre-surgical liquid diet they complain about a post-surgical liquid diet and my thought is you're willing to put your life at risk to have a surgical procedure but you can't deal with a clear liquid diet or a full liquid diet for 3 weeks

Dr. V, I am a "two-timer" patient. What does that mean you ask? I had a RNY bypass on 11-9-2001. I just recently had a revision on my RNY on 3-15-19. Now that I am much older, I seem to be struggling more now than I did back in 2001 with my eating and especially drinking enough water. I am sitting at work watching your videos and I am blown away, by all of your videos! Do you have a video or book on how long you should be on each stage of foods? I have my surgeon's instructions, but I would like to compare them to yours. My fear is that after almost 15 years again, mine will stretch back out and I don't mind having this revision over, but WHY WOULD I DO THAT TO MYSELF A 3RD TIME?.....Thank you for your suggestions and direction. You are a true blessing.

We have one surgeon and one program at another hospital in my area but this surgeon refuses to see any of my surgeon's patients. Thankyou Dr V, you hav taught me so much more than I learned during the entire time I struggled to lose the first 50 lbs, psych eval, and dietary class's. Thankyou for doing these video's! U should add another scale for a differant perspective. Some people might find it easier to imagine the texture scale referenced to age. Newborn = new born = liquid 1 on texture, 6 month old = 2 on texture (mushy), 12 months = 3 on the texture, 2 y old = 4 on texture, 3-4 year old...... That could be a differant perspective for those that ask " silly" questions

I just struggle with emotional eating and portion control. I have degenerative discs and am struggling with pain daily down both legs and use a cane. I’m only 38. This is just not a life. I’m at 285 and am getting my sleeve surgery in the next 6 months. This is going the be the shift to help me have momentum to move forward. Smarts on veggie soup purées! Tomorrow I’ll start doing a green drink again. I totally got out of that habit and used to love it. Yogurt is “cow mucus” 🤢 filled with sugar. It’s one of the best things to never eat again.

This is easily the greatest video on youtube about what you should eat post OP. LISTEN TO THIS MANS ADVICE!!!! PLEASE!! I had my surgery April 16th 2018 and I'm down about 130lbs. I still can't even eat half the shit recommended to me simply BECAUSE of the "Texture" Of things. I definitely can't eat shrimp... Too rubbery. Tuna? no problem. Salmon? no problem... chicken? Not a chance. Beef? Very hard if it's not . Pork sausages? They're the primary source of protein for my diet lately just because of how easy they are to chew and swallow. Also don't depend on protein shakes... At least I can't. I feel violently ill drinking them. I can't digest whey protein for some reason, it makes me phlegm up and puke. People think getting surgery is the easy way out... It's been fucking rough man. Not being able to eat properly has been strange, almost depressing, but it does get better. The first 2 months were absolute hell trying to figure out what I can eat without feeling sick. But on the other hand... This "Tool" I've been given? It's saved my life and I'm grateful as fuck. Thanks for this video dude. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this. This is a gem of knowledge!

Hi! I really liked your post. I'll be having my VSG in early May....a little apprehensive but very excited. I know it's not going to be easy, and I definitely need to work on my coping skills...I feel like I'm most certainly an emotional eater, not to mention a compulsive overeater. Best of luck to you with your continued success!! I really need to join a support group or something. I'm going to look into that. SW 344 Height 5'10"

I sat through the nutrition classes which told me nothing. Insurance required. I was handed a pamphlet telling me the stages of liquid, pureed, etc after surgery. My surgeon pushes vegetarian and Mediterranean diet. He is wonderful, but never really elaborated. Was always pleased with my loss, but I always thought it should be more. Now I am 5 years out and dealing with my 20 lb regain. Thank you for this video.

Yea during the preliminary stuff they had me on south beach diet i lost 22lbs b4 surgery and gave me some handouts. I didnt get any council after. It was a joke and still is. Im post op 8mos. I got info off line bcus they sent me home with nothing. During hospital stay i had to have family bring me protien shakes and pudding. They gave me powdered soup tea and jello. I developed my own plan according to what i could consume. 2wk liquids 2wks soft was all they told me. 48oz liquid. Dr v you are such a blessing

I had gastric bypass in 2012. It is now 2019. I concur with Dr. V and have grown to practice most of his advice through experiencing what does not come back up and what does not hurt. Dry white meat chicken, pork chops, steak, and dry ribs all HURT me still. Eating one bite too much ends up in pain and no relief until I throw up! Small portions! Stop when your stomach tells you to. Cooked veggies, fruits, grilled fish, scallops, crab, shrimp and occasionally filet mignon. I do eat applesauce, small curd cottage cheese, semi soft cheese, sometimes a pudding or a jello. However I do enjoy ground beef or steak umms. I am once again getting out my little cocktail spoon, fork, and tiny dishes and bowls and go back to those days. I want to lose more weight and for sure I want to lose what I have gained. I gained 8 pounds last year! I lost 120 pounds since the surgery. I want to give up sugar. I drink decaf cappucino and it is my achilles heel. I want to kick that habit. I want to lose 50 more pounds but I will have so much hangover, I don't know if I really NEED to lose 50 more pounds.I now believe in you Dr. V. and hopefully I will meet you in Vegas in 2020. I am buying your book! I'd like to send you my photo of my hangover and get your opinion if I look like a candidate for the pandectomy. I doubt a doctor can convince Medicare to pay for it. I am willing to pay for it if I need to. Vanity, not likeing what I see in the mirror when unclothed, those are reasons to spend the money and take the risk of surgery. I am a lot better than I was 100 pounds ago! I wish I had lost it withough the surgery but I was a diabetic on a pump (no more) and was wheelchair bound so exercise was not an option as I had no pool access.

Wonderful! I’m not sure if people would be willing, but not eating flour (of any kind), sugar, and sweeteners is a sure way never to regain the weight again! Fruits, vegetables, legumes, and meats are the way to go!!!

I'm from the UK. I had my sleeve 12th July 2019. I had it done on the NHS so no cost. Our programmes are very good, it takes over 12 months to to finally get on the list. And then you wait about 8-12 months for your surgery. We were given a booklet that explained everything about the surgery to the diet. Post surgery my stages of eating are 2 weeks fluid diet 1 week puree 1 week soft/mashable, the end of the week start gradually eating more solid food. Our list of foods were great, I didnt have any complaints.

I lost 100 pounds eating just what he had under 3s and 4s and walking every day, without surgery. Unfortunately, I had a hip injury, got lazy on watching my diet and gained it back. Now I'm having the sleeve and I'm going to do it like this again once my surgeon moves me from liquids to the mushies...
