This was an accurate interview. It can not describe the trauma a child experiences in this group. I was born in-to this group. I came out as gay to my sister at 26 in 1996. She told me she would never speak to me again. I was shunned by everyone in my family and all my friends shortly after that. I’ve had to mentally bury my parents who are both still alive but shun me.

Do know that being gay is not the issue but rather practicing it is. The scriptures are clear on how a true Christian should conduct themselves or not and is our choice. It is God's choice who he gives life to so I suppose it all works out.

Loved this interview! I was a witness for 35 years in a divided home and I’m so glad my husband never left me as he has told me he’s always seen me as a member of a cult. It’s only been 2 months but I find myself in disbelief that I could have believed what I’ve believed all these years, I’m pealing away the layers of how I’ve been indoctrinated. Once I put my disassociation letter in I felt such relief and now feel so glad that I’m now thinking for myself. I was beginning to struggle with my mental and emotional health but since leaving I’m feeling so much happier and glad to wake up in the morning in control of my own life after all these years.

So glad we finally have experts like Steven hammering down on this cult and making it known to outsiders so they can educate others and completely avoid it. I am beyond relieved I allowed myself to do research outside of JW material 5 years ago. Best decision of my life at 21 years old.

Wow, just an amazing interview. Everything that was said is definitely the truth about "The Truth". I was born and raised in this cult. Spent the first 22 years of my life, living a double life. Which eventually led me to a depression, which I was self medicating with drugs an alcohol. Which in turn made matters much worse. I still struggle to find and understand who I really am. Thanks WATCHTOWER.

I read Matthew 24 without WatchTower and got a totally different viewpoint. I was amazed at how the publications colored my interpretation.

I set out to prove her wrong. It was only after I stopped reading Watchtowers for a couple of months that what she said became obvious.

Even though I've been out of the JW's for a a few years, I never until yesterday realized mentally that the headquarters is actually a compound. I never ever looked at it that way before. Now I hear that word it makes me even more horrified that I once belonged to this group! As a JW you would just accept that the NWT was a 'more accurate' translation, therefore when going door to door you would not even consider it as misleading people. The pamphlet they used to take around hospitals was 'how can blood save your life?'. I believe that's the one they did the campaigns with.

My Ex-Wife was intellectually intelligent too, she still became a JW, despite me informing her their History as she would not listen to me as they are told not listen to So-called apostates or nonmembers, such as me. She kept her JW linkage from me when we first met on Christmas day party at my Mom's house in 1984 as a friend of my Sister who is an Atheist. My mistake was falling in Love with her as I fell for her personality and about 6 months or so after deep seated relationship she tells me she's a JW and we must be married within 1 to 2 years of our relationship. I myself never became a JW but did study with them, but never buy into it they wanted to control my life and marriage, also their Bible translations. My Grandma also warned me about them. Even had a daughter who is now 33 Years Old and no married shunning her Dad.

I was born in, sexually abused, physically abused by a parent for not wanting to conform to their standards, officially became a PIMO in 2015 the night they viewed the talk by Stephen lett on how they do not condone nor are responsible for child abuse that happens within kingdom halls… the pandemic break from going to meetings is what truly woke me up in seeing how brainwashed i was… now im battling major depression because i was denied any higher education except a GED and can barely afford to live

I thought my marriage was going to end but my wife woke up very quickly.

How in the hell I stand through years of meetings as a child is beyond me ,I don't remember my mom really beating me maybe I just shut my mind off .😢 I really don't understand why they didn't have separate meeting for children but then again these people are not normal,how is it normal for a child to sit perfectly still for hours at a time .

As an ex-jw, I felt Isaac's pain when he said his daughter is still in. The cult took my family too. Thankfully, I'm slowly rebuilding and have been out for a little more than a year but I knew I had to flee in 2020. I had no clue at that time it was a cult but I did see the toxicity. I was so afraid of everyone on the outside and displeasing and "turning on" God by leaving. They broke my heart and tried to kill me (literally) and even imo delighted in torturing me. I left with no money, family, possessions or hope and with anxiety, depression, thoughts of taking my own life and a deep sense of loathing since I was convinced I betrayed God. I was later diagnosed with C-PTSD. Still recovering and healing but thankful to be out.

Listening got up to the point, where Issac mentions that almost every witness knows or was a victim of CSA in this organization...as a multi-generational witness and long time elder....I started to keep a mental tally of CSA cases (within the organization) that I came to know of personally, some of these were individuals that I later (as adults, in some cases) came to know of, perhaps years after the fact..yet...still personal friends, family and congregation members..and the current number is 68 victims...and these constitutes completely different cases...I do believe that if one was to look at this one a historical graph..it probably peaked out in the 70's thru the 90's..and has been steady going down, because of the media/legal ramifications. Unfortunately, I strongly feel that while this is good news, it's for the wrong reason. And the damage done to victims has never been addressed. Because the leadership (Bethel) is primarily concerned about their reputation and pocketbooks ...and while they hate the CSA, .. problem, they also have real issues with a vocal victim, they just want the problem to go away, and that at most times means that victims are treated in a less than helpful and healing way.

Russia is embroiled in a war ..is it because they mistreated Gods people ? Was covid in response to the isolation Russia imposed on jw,s ? Ezek 38:20-22. Rev 19:17&18 It's been a historical fact that in bible times God has used nations to punish those oppressing his people.. Is that what's going on unseen .. ...unperceived by our secularised eyes ?

Thank you, thank you thank you for dignifying the JWs who are in by saying that they likely have doubts and they know something is wrong...they're just unable to break out of the trap they're in. I was one of those who had doubts since the age of 12 (when I was baptized). But in school I would've appeared totally convinced and steadfast in my faith. I was intelligent, always quiet and behaved, and I was in the top 10 of my class.....but I was just absolutely saturated with years of perpetual grief, anxiety, and isolation. I was so psychologically burdened by the cognitive dissonance because nobody would admit what I observed about us from the outside perspective. I had lots of good questions that would nearly get me into severe trouble. I wasn't allowed to research the organization on websites "influenced by apostate ideas." Nobody shared my desire to fully get to the truth of many matters....so I stayed in the religion seeing myself as a future reformer. But in the meantime I battled depression, suicidal thoughts, monthly bouts of severe crying, panic attacks, and night terrors....in addition to suffering from the pathology of my family...I endured 2 disfellowshipping periods (5 years) for petty offenses. But eventually during Covid I left everything behind once I woke up fully. All it took was a little bit of time to myself, just enough time to break the relentless immersion in their propoganda....and the stack of cards came undone... there is hope for everyone in these groups but often the abuse they suffer does further ingrain their propoganda. They come to conflate their own burdens with the "pressure of the world"....and it becomes so hard to think yourself out of it. Thank you both so much for the work you've both done. You've helped to save my life....and I hope my own family follows me some day.

Wonderful interview. Just wanted to add that they just lowered the hours for regular pioneering to 50 hours per month. Guess they were getting nervous because they lost so many pioneers. Seems they didn’t want to lose face when the numbers came out, so they made it super easy to keep numbers up.

Wow 50?! We were amazed when they reduced it to 90. Weren't they supposed to INCREASE the pace and tempo of the preaching the "good news" as the world's system gets closer to the end?

Can confirm, I was one of those basement kids for 6 months after I was disfellowshipped (apparently called “removed” now, probably thanks to the Norway trial). Fascinating to learn that my parents used similar methods to other. I ended up going a bit mad after 6 months and ended up just leaving to live in the streets for 2 years. It was preferable to what I was experiencing at home. Of course I see that as being the same as being kicked out, but they’ll tell you I left of my own accord.

Only 11mins in. So far so great. "Combating Cult Mind Control" was imperative to my waking up process from the cult. As a women, I want to say dress code applies much more to women than it does men.

No cleavage. No showing your back. No spaghetti straps (like the school rule the strap must be at least two fingers wide), no colorful hair/"unnatural hair color", skirts/dresses should cover your knees (even when sitting, if not you must cover them with a sweater), no slits, no jewellery that may be considered "extravagant adornment" (based on a scripture), no tight/figure hugging clothes. Recently (last year?) They had a propaganda video discouraging teen girls from wearing jeans with rips in them (even though the girl in said video was wearing tights underneath). Women are expected at meetings to wear dresses or skirts. Never pants. I got audible gasps when I showed up in pants to my Nana's funeral.

For all genders, no tattoos, no facial piercings, men (although this is by region) no beards only mustaches. Brothers at meetings are expected to wear a suit dress shirt and tie/bowtie (skinny ties were banned for a little bit).

As far as food, you can eat anything under normal circumstances (no blood so , well done steaks and no blood sausage) but also nothing "sacrificed to idols" for instance the cookies in the break room someone baked for Christmas or birthday cupcakes (as seen in propaganda made for kids). Otherwise you can eat anything.

@Ivan Castillo Thanks for sharing that. This is a story that is often repeated. Marrying a JW can be a real challenge. In many cases, the marriage doesn't hold up. In their minds of course that validates why they must marry "only in the Lord."

I read the new version of combatting after reading Franz’s Crisis of Conscience and think that was key in being able to call it a cult thank you both for your work countering these destructive groups.

32:45. Slight correction, the last person who was no longer on the Governing Body was Leo Greenlees who was dismissed (not disfellowshiped) during the 1990's for allegations of child sexual abuse. In fact, Raymond Franz, due to the secrecy of his separation from the organization, felt compelled to shed light on the startling facts about Greenlees. Raymond feared people would conflate their stories, so he set about getting the record straight. But it is true that Raymond Franz was the only one to leave by choice due to the reasons pointed out. The man changed watchtower history big time. There was even immediate doctrinal changes in response to the issues surrounding his resignation. (Institution of another avenue of shunning, "disassociation") Edit: Let's hope that Anthony Morris the III reads the writing on the wall regarding this ideological cult, and wakes up to give the watchtower a rude awakening!

I know I never could. Therapy helped wake me up though. I respected not only the science being presented to me in CBT but saw that it did not conflict with Scripture. Therefore, it helped me transform my mind and that contributed to leaving "the truth."

Great program, but you got the Two Witness rule completely wrong. The JWs modified the rule with respect to child abuse before 1999. Yes, that is correct. Provided of course that 2 people have forward with credible accusations to the same elder body. Then, unless the accused confesses it's left to the elders as to whether they believe the victims.

When the gentleman mentions Fred Franz as the 4th president, he is miscoumting. Charles Russel was not the first president but the second. The first president was William Conley. Russell was the first treasurer and then second president.

A Good friend of mine from way back in the 80s, she apparently had to defriend me quite awhile ago, and worse than that she disconnected from her 2 daughters who left (The Truth) I forgot to say, now her husband is an elder and she is totally stuck.. IMO.. On a side note, I sold her a dog. A Mastiff. He cut his paw 🐾 pad.. he was literally🐕 bleeding out, and they would NOT let Huegy have a blood transfusion. . a DOG🐕 !!! 😢 They are f'n nuts. It could have saved him.

Hi, Exjw here (pomo). Love your video, hope you don't mind me saying but at the 10:54 point - important to understand this point - you are not quite correct on the point when you say about JWs door knocking and not telling people they are going to "study a JW Bible" with the householder. This is not actually correct. JW door knockers actually encourage people to use their own Bible while having a Bible study. What the problem actually is, is that they don't disclose that they are going to use a JW publication which contains cherry picked Bible scriptures right throughout it to back up their theology, which they say is a "Bible study" but it's actually a JW book study you will get rather than a Bible study using ONLY the Bible. I'm a little bit surprised Isaac didn't correct this point you made because you are quite off base with this point and it's actually a pretty important point for people (innocent householders etc) to be aware of. Isaac would be aware of this but maybe he just didn't catch this fully as you said it. ... Secondly, around the 10 minute mark, Isaac says that Jehovah has been "added" to the old testament. I think he meant that "Jehovah" been added to the New Testament because it has definitely been added to the New Testament but as I understand it, in the Old Testament, Jehovah was replaced in every place where there's normally LORD (translation into English) in upper case, but where it was YHWH in the original Hebrew language. Thus making a huge point for their theology.... My mother joined this JW religious cult 63 years ago because she was so excited to learn that God has a name Jehovah (from Psalms 83:18) after being a Catholic for 36 years, and for the whole 63 years of my life, the religion has done nothing but cause unhappiness, distress, chaos and division within our huge family, down to this very day.... But thank you for the video. I will continue to see it to the end. 😊

A smack for being naughty is part of all kids training. Beating kids is not acceptable. I’m 71 female and I’ve never seen any child beaten in a KH. I think that’s an exaggeration.
