@@uniqueness1995 the basic knowledge is the foundation for cracking any exam ...first go through the ages of English literature ...from Elizabeth age to the modern age...make notes while studying...most of the students don't have habit of writing while reading ...that's the key cz u remember more if u make notes while writing ..then focus on deeper knowledge like critical theory etc...while reading the ages say Elizabethan age read all the imp writers and then go through their imp works and their short summaries ...hope this helps

Shakespeare basically dealt with basic human nature and emotions such as pride, jealousy, anger, things which we all share as a species... common to those who existed in 16th century when Shakespeare was writing and still present in you and me. This is what makes him universal in nature. However the theorists hailing from different schools have contested against this idea of timelessness accounted to Shakespeare's plays.

Preface means addition of something before the original work.. This work is named as preface to Shakespeare means a write up added before the plays of Shakespeare.
