Dr. Raymond Moody Responds to Criticisms of Near-Death Experiences (NDEs)

When it comes to near-death experiences, people have plenty of criticisms to share. Some people say that NDEs are caused by random electrical activity in the brain. Others argue that people are simply hallucinating.
Well, today, we're in luck... because I have found the absolute perfect person to address some of these complaints.
Dr. Raymond Moody is one of the world's leading experts on near-death experiences. In fact, many argue that he actually came up with the term "near-death experience." As such, his responses to the most common criticisms of NDEs are fascinating!

I purchased Glimpses of Eternity after I had a Shared Death Experience when my father passed. I saw him standing in my back yard, I saw our dimension open and a being made of light collect him and it spoke to me. It allowed me to experience the love towards us and allowed me to partially experience a life review. Just a single happy memory before my physical vision returned. This all happened in the fullness of the day, while working in my backyard. The book really helped me to understand that I was not alone in this experience and that those who share their near death experience are not just misfires of a dying brain.

The thing that tells me its not just dmt in the brain is that people in hospice homes at a huge rate 90% of them report having some sort of nde effect before dying could be weeks or even a month before death they start seeing loved ones and having dreams of going into another reality or dimension and back. If it was dmt in the brain these people would be reporting other dmt effects like the walks looking like there breathing, words forming together on pages and stuff the dmt wouldnt be giving them such specific visions

I thought Dr. Elisbeth Kubler-Ross (psychiatrist) coined the term, "near death experience" many years prior to Dr. Moody. She became convinced that NDE's are real while treating hospice patients and other dying patients during her decades long practice with those patients.

I’m surprised by these comments. I liked her demeanor and thought they had a very good rapport. Although toward the end, you could tell she was intent on wrapping things up. Why? It was a good interview that could’ve lasted longer. A lot of KZread interviewers do this. Where do these self imposed time limit come from? I would understand if it were a news segment that must have time constraints, but it’s an independent KZread channel where their Creators make their own rules!

I'd like to believe in this, but I'm not convinced. Dr. Moody always wants to rule out physiological explanations (brain malfunctions etc) by citing cases of shared death experiences. Problem is that there is no proof that these actually happened. I can't disprove it or claim he's making up these cases and I'm aware it's hardly possible to conduct conclusive experiments on this, but still this leaves unpleasant doubts.

Agreed. His retort was unsatisfying. I'm fairly new to researching these reports of NDEs, but the most convincing accounts I've come across are the veridical NDEs, where patients report having an out-of-body-experience during which they observe real-world events (such as conversations had by family in another room of the hospital) that are later confirmed by a third party. I still consider myself an atheist currently, but such veridical reports have me questioning. What do you think of them?
