@@ifonly2074 The flu has a mortality rate of 0,01%, for the corona virus it was estimated to 3% on January 24, so 300 times higher, also the reproductive number of the virus is estimated to 2,5, while for flu it barely high enough to sustained spread at only 1,3 people being sick per 1 sick person, also fever is actually not a symptom in all victims, and incubation time is a little longer than for normal flu. On the list of dead that I saw at least half of the dead are elderly (70 and above), and it can be a relief if you are young. Total deaths are now 169, and it seems to be increasing faster, day by day, with deaths per day for the last days being: 0 , 0 , 26 , 20 , 24 , 52 and 37. If I should guess a number for tomorrow I think it will be close to 50, and the new total will be 220. For the elderly it seems they die after a week or two, while for the younger it takes 2 to 3 weeks it seems, all numbers is after they where admitted to hospital. Also I saw an estimate that 300.000 are assumed infected, so even if this is contained today we are talking hefty numbers of maybe 9.000. If we do nothing and half populations gets it, the death toll will be 115 million deaths world wide. Im glad this joker with the beard is not my doctor. And why do you think its out of proportions, "If Only"?

I heard 1 in 4 people who are infected will need an ICU unit. Is this true? ICU units are fairly small in most hospitals. Seoul is setting up tents outside hospitals. What I want to know is, what corona strain is this, one that is specific to certain animals? Animal corona virus strains generally do not jump to humans and are not transmissable human to human. If true that this strain is a bat strain, it likely is genetically altered. I keep hearing that this is a 'novel' corona virus. Also, keep an ear out for fast mutation or slow mutation of the virus. Slow means stable, more likely genetically altered while fast means less likely altered, more difficult to create a vaccine. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Allegedly, the bioweapons lab near the Wuhan market, in 2019, was altering a corona virus seen in bats, to give it human to human transmissibility. Did it get out, you know, like in the movies? How stable was it? A virus that mutates quickly may mutate into a less transmissible form, kill fewer people over the long run, and delay vaccine creation, versus a stable strain that may kill more people in the long run, at least until the vaccine is created. We need more information about the strain to assess real risk. Without doubt, 50 million people on lockdown strongly suggests there is, likely, or, due to an abundance of caution, a serious problem with this 'novel' strain. Watch California and other big city hubs for an increase in hospital patients. Be prepared, not scared- :)

I think the cat is out of the bag and it’s only a matter of time before it breaks out in America. A 2% mortality rate is a lot when you’re applying it to millions of people.

  • @geri911

The flu has a mortality rate of 0,01%, for the corona virus it was estimated to 3% on January 24, so 300 times higher, also the reproductive number of the virus is estimated to 2,5, while for flu it barely high enough to sustained spread at only 1,3 people being sick per 1 sick person, also fever is actually not a symptom in all victims, and incubation time is a little longer than for normal flu.

I have been searching on web for the corona virus and it said we already had it but it has gotten stronger it’s like flu and fevers so I was thinking if rn were using specific type of medication to try and prevent flu or fevers can we also make that medication stronger to see if it would have an effect on the virus

coronavirus presents as a common cold. people who are immunocompromised or already have asthma or other pulmonary diseases are the most at risk. it has the potential to turn into something more serious like pneumonia, but your average person would catch this virus and be just fine. the most alarming thing about this virus to me is abnormally long incubation period. we had a virus here in Oregon recently with an incubation period of 6 days and even that was kind of scary. just take care of yourselves and you'll be fine.

Ideally, you should always be health conscious and hygiene conscious. Zinc and Vitamin C are excellent in helping your immune system to stay strong. The last time I had a virus was 2009. While I am self employed and really don't like crowds, I do think you need to be clean. With or without an outbreak like this, handwashing is essential to avoid getting sick. Keep your hands away from your face. I don't even have a decent manicure right now because when my nails were longer, I felt like they were germ carriers and had to take extra time to wash my hands. I'm here in the US and I see people with dirt under their nails and there's no reason for this. In general, that is disgusting. Don't panic. Just take notice of what you're not doing. Some people are just lazy. When you wash your hands, get between the fingers. 20 seconds at minimum is considered good enough but you can be a little more thorough.

People are dirty and lazy. The first thing I do when I come home is wash my hands. My dog gives me the usual happy greeting every time I come home and I don't even touch him until I wash my hands. I'm actually going to wear medical gloves when I go out. Fecal matter is everywhere because people are filthy. Before this outbreak, I bought a huge box of individually packaged hand sanitizer wipes and now they're sold out. I bought packets of alcohol wipes instead which are still available. It's not just about the virus but the other germs that can make you sick. Americans say derogatory things about other countries but I've seen people with dirt under their nails on many occasions right here who have a lot of access to soap and water. I know you can still get sick if someone coughs on you or sneezes on you and the Coronavirus is different but in general, many people don't give a damn about basic cleanliness.
