Dr. Kathleen Stock discusses her book, "Material Girls"

Dr Kathleen Stock OBE is a former professor of philosophy at the University of Sussex who has written a number of articles for peer-reviewed academic publications primarily on aesthetics, sexual objectification, and the impact of modern gender theory on the rights of women and girls. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions to higher education, after which many philosophers took to social media to object, circulating an “Open Letter Concerning Transphobia in Philosophy.”
Dr Stock has recently published a philosophical examination of the main tenets of gender ideology, called “Material Girls: Why Reality Matters for Feminism,” available now in both hardback and in electronic format.
(Originally recorded in May, 2021. Since that time Dr Stock has left the University of Sussex following a sustained campaign of harassment by student groups.)

Grateful for Kathleen Stock and Helen Joyce writing books and being outspoken about these issues. There's still more work to do for women's rights.

Still don't see how Trans isn't seen as the highest form of (what most Woke are against) _appropriation_ . Contending that transition-to is equal to biologically born-as runs up against the need to distinguish what one is changing INTO which means a from-to state. Appropriation, as a negative connotation, seemed to imply that the issue was gaining all the positive social returns on using aspects of another culture, without incurring the costs that ACTUALLY LIVING AS that culture incurs. It seems to me Trans does this in that the idealized view of what being a woman IS seems sufficient for that person to identify as to suit their inner self, and/or gain social acceptance as the gender of their personal choice.

They don't think women are oppressed. The reason wokies don't accuse us ethnic people of cultural appropriating white culture by dressing in jeans or t-shirts is because they see us being less privileged. However, they think women are privileged and evil or even nazis for not being okay with men identifying as women.

I think the reason they hate and avoid the “trans racial” argument is because it’s too obviously devastating.

17:16 "what is a woman?" is mainstream not because of misogyny but because a transman being in a male space (men's sports, toilets, changing rooms etc) is zero threat. I, a man, do not care one bit if a female shares a changing room with me. I do, however, care about males sharing a changing room with my female family and friends, and children in general.

Young boys are not comfortable having trans identifying girls in their change rooms either. The danger aspect is less a threat but the invasion of privacy is still a problem.

@@Gingerblaze yes it is soo inappropriate, we have to protect children both boys and girls this is violating and leads to bad thing. I mean it's not right to have women in men's spaces either. Just because this man claims not to care, I'm sure many do

And how would you tell whether a man in a woman’s space was trans or cis man, then?

If it's just '' all about identity'' why don't we talk about the right of black, arabish or asian personnes to say they're white because they feel it so that they don't suffer from racism anymore ? Why don't we give the right to any human personne on earth espacialy from the south to feel from any rich country and get the nationality so that they can have a better life ? Since it is '' all about imoroving society'' ???

Why don't you ask yourself '' who could have pay so that these ideas have been spread all over the society ?" And one of the answer is Martine Rothblat (trans who wrote '' from transgender to transhuman '', very rich and who work since 20 years to push this phenomenon in laws, médecine and culture) but also other personnes like Jennifer Pritzker (also trans) and Jon Styker. But there are other rich people who got interests in medecine, technologies and culture. Just search! The world is not just '' fool of ideas''! It's all about money !

I think its terrible Kathleen has turned out this way - 600 philosophy academics signed a petition she is being discriminatory, alongside student protests; and she still can't see she is wrong....she has cut her nose off to spite her face so to speak; she handled this all wrong...and sadly still thirsts for more...please stop giving her a platform to do this to herself; she has diminished her beauty and herself with all this... It even seems like her partner may have left her as a result too; for all that to happen and see no fault, screams a lot about Kathleen...

Kathleen is actually on he right side of history. I bet most of the professor who signed the petition probably agree with her behind closed doors. who are you to say we shouldn’t give a woman fighting for women and girls a platform. If you don’t like what she’s saying then don’t click on the video. We stand with Kathleen and all that she is doing for women’s rights. We need her voice now more than ever.

@@Bibirallie Kathleen's operating in the public arena, as such she is open to my criticism and anyone's criticism. Consequently, I argued against her discriminatory comments, this isn't about her fighting for women's rights, it about her explicit discriminations and ignorance...consequently, her peers were not forced to sign that petition and you should not make unproven assumptions about their actions when her peers made a clear statement and openly criticized Kathleen...if anything you should be taking note of their brave actions...not finding some imaginary coercion behind it.
