What I appreciate about Dr. Fuhrman is the fact that he does not elevate veganism to a religion. He doesn't appear to operate from a bias that says plant-based eating must be the optimal way because we know eating animals is wrong and then gather science that appears to support this bias. He appears to just operate with the mindset that says let the data say what it will, and not force it into our preconceived assumptions. No one can completely eliminate bias, but Dr. Furhman seems to extend alot of effort to overcome bias. Great interview!

I agree. But I think you are being very harsh in suggesting that other plant based Drs cherry pic data to suit a vegan agenda. I disagree. I'm eternally grateful they are ALL championing 100% plants because people need to get their health in check properly. Animals need to be rescued from horrific barbaric, evil practices and our planet loved and cherished again otherwise it will die and die quickly at this rate.

After being a lifelong vegetarian, I now eat whole food organic non- GMO plant-based/fungi, high fiber, low fat, low protein, no sugar or processed foods or alcohol. After being diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer, and being scheduled for vaginal vaultbrachy that I am less than happy about; I am doing everything I can to tweak my diet and increase exercise to prevent recurrence. I am obsessed with educating myself and acting upon what I learn. Dr. Furman is a true life saver, thank you for interviewing him, Gianna! So with regards to salt, I hit the gym most days and lift weights. I also walk 4-12km a day. It's the middle of summer here and the temp is between 25-30°c. Is reducible the salt intake detrimental to me. I have a little under a teaspoon in my porridge and some times add it too food. And an Isotonic sports drink I like has sodium in it.

@@opnarth no he is not. Fuhrman is a sugar phobic orthorexic. No corn, no potatoes, no rice. His diet doesn’t work it makes people starve themselves. McDougall, kempner, pritikin, sweeny, hemsworth are the ones above all others. Kempner is the grand daddy GOAT, the one who all the others follow.

he explains the difference in the first few minutes. he's talking about nutritional excellence not just adequacy. MacDougall is talking about an adequate diet. MacDougall is also not looking at science. he's making appeals to the past and sweaping claims about cultures.

McDougall is an excellent way to enter WFPB lifestyle. When you become comfortable with it, then Fuhrman is the next step. Both are excellent, inspiring, great info, great teachers. They are not in conflict! McDougall is a BA; Greger is a MA; Fuhrman is a PhD! Most people d just fine with a BA.

I love Dr. Fuhrman and have followed his diet for many years. But the unnecessary exclusion of fatty fish when he knows how important DHA and EPA are is just not good advice. If you are a vegan for animal rights, ok. But there is nothing unhealthy about sockeye salmon or sardines - full of every nutrient he says his followers become deficient in. The addition of fish completes the nutrition puzzle. But when someone promotes a bad idea for so long they risk losing credibility if they change. Moreover, get your iron checked on the plant-based diet. After six years I had a 10 ferritin, which basically means the body is out of iron completely.
