Great interview! There aren't too many with him, especially considering what an incredible player and overall musician he is. Interesting to hear his thoughts and approach to how to make music.

@@SamoSalamonMusic I studied with him for a time at university and he was and still is the 'best' (as far as there is a best) and most tasty guitarist of my generation in Europe - I think. I never heard anybody else playing on the level.

@@moritzvdforst Jesse is definitely my favorite, but there are a few other guys in Europe that are great. Martijn von Iterson also from The Netherlands,,Romain Pilon from France and Gustav lundgren from Sweden. Have you heard the recording of Jesse playing standards on a website called " Dutch Bopper"? It's just his solos from the early two thousands, I think he was just sitting in.. It's not posted on KZread but Google something like "Dutch Bopper,Jesse van Ruller solos at The Crow". I think it was around the same time that he recorded " Live at Murphy's Law ". He's playing the Levin with the D,armond Dynasonic pickup.
Thank you Samo, dank je wel Jesse !!

Txxx Juan Carlos!
Thank you for posting this Samo. I had classes with Jesse when I studied in Amsterdam conservatorium (class of 2002) and still think of him as amazing and surly one of the best at what he does. Miss the classes and the opportunity of being in a class setting playing with him in a duo. Unfortunately, at the time I was still very immature musically and could not maximise the experience but man, just hearing his comping or his solos on a tune I was working on was always eyeopening and pleasure to the ears and soul. His words here still resonate very much with me and are very true. All the best to you Jesse.

@@SamoSalamonMusic not really, unfortunately. Not at an art form level anyway, just the wannabe jazz hotel gig. Not meaning there aren’t some talented musicians that live here.

@@FranciscoAbreuMusic aaa a shame...
This is the greatest guitar player to come out of europe, followed by Lage Lund.
I want to know when the two Dutch masters will finally play together...what a beautiful duo JVR and Martijn van Iterson would be!
