Dr. Hameeda Hossain lived in Hyderabad, Sindh, during 1947
Dr. Hameeda Hossain was born in Hyderabad, Sindh (now in Pakistan) in 1936. Her father was a judge and sent all three of his girls to school and encouraged them to go for higher education. Dr. Hossain went to a convent in Karachi. Little Hameeda used to ride her bike to school. After Partition, she went to school and found herself among only 10-15 students. All of he Hindu, Sikh, and Christian children had migrated with their families. At the same time, she saw trains full of injured, helpless, and alone passengers arriving from India. Her grandmother established a clinic and shelter for the refugees where Hameeda helped out.

Sometime between 1969 and 1970, a couple of us Sindhi students Dhaka University and Engineering University or whatever, we visited Mrs. Hameeda Kamal in Dhaka at her residence. She was happy to receive us and treated her well. I don’t remember what we talked about or what she talked about. For us it was just a pleasant visit to a Sindhi lady living in East Pakistan with her Bengali spouse. Her memoirs of partition are worthy of notice. I also remember لیکے رہینگے پاکستان slogan from my uncle’s friend Muhamnad Ashraf Nizamani who had come to visit his school fellow Ali Akbar Chand, when I was a kid of about five years.

A hospital made at time in such circumstances was a really great initiative for the human . Not For the muslims nor for the hindus . And i am from hyderabad where you people used to live ?

people should know if a new country is being made. Dr Hossain said that partition came to her as a surprise. I think it is responsibility of the state to inform people about any political decision.
