I actually worked on this episode! I was a boom operator at the BBC's White City studios from September 1963 to March 1965, and for most of that period Dr Finlay's Casebook was a weekly fixture for Camera Crew 7, of which I was a member. Bill Simpson and Andrew Cruickshank were great and Barbara Mullen was really sweet. We all enjoyed working on the series.

I remember watching this TV series in the '60s as an 8 year old child on an old black and white TV. Of course, we didn't know any better but we thought it was a marvelous show and we used to even talk about it at school. Now I'm 64 and I think it's just great that I get to even have a look at what we watched way back then. Technology and all that.

Thanks for this posting. Nothing could beat the way Doctor Cameron cleared his throat before most sentences - he was, indeed, a class act - and Doctor Snoddy - the original old fart. Superb stuff.

The production standards look incredibly old-fashioned compared to today's fast moving dramas. Someone has commented that next to Dr Kildare (also in the 60's), DFC seems to be under permanent anesthesia. But the stories were very well acted. Andrew Cruickshank was a well-established Shakespearean actor and ably supported by the other two. It certainly brings back distant childhood memories for me and I may even partake of some self-indulgent nostalgia by getting a DVD of some more episodes. Thanks for posting.

This was probably my father's favourite programme (as a small child it held less fascination for me). However, I can appreciate with hindsight how very well written and acted it was. I particularly remember Dr Snoddy and that old busybody Mistress Niven. Thank you for posting and reviving some 50 year old memories for me.

I have just noticed how beautifully the 2 sisters and Dr FInlay speak with perfect diction (and a singalong Scottish accent). Listen to Bill Simpson say "draw half a bucket, instead of a full bucket". No mouthy Eastender accents were allowed in the 1960s :-).

How interesting. I worked for ITV many years ago, always wanted to work for 'Auntie' but never managed it. My word telly has changed hasn't it? All computer driven desks now - the TC practically sits there doing nothing, except it the computer tells him/her to! Thanks for sharing your memories, I appreciate it.

Sunday evening 7-25pm? The last one I remember was when Dr Finlay was on a train crash and had to tend the injured. I suppose that was 1970 or 71. Bill Simpson like Rupert Davies (Maigret) became typecast. I met Rupert Davies as a kid- it was 1962 and he had a big American station wagon- he was a big star then and he offered me a kitten which my parents refused to let me have! I wish I had known he was a naval aviator- that would have thrilled me even more!

I never thought Cameron was horrible. He made me laugh, so did Dr Finlay and Janet. The interplay between them was priceless.

I searched for this because I am listening to the radio dramas from Audible and liked it's theme tune. I'm so glad they used the original. I wonder if it's possible to purchase this series because as a blind person, they are very easy to follow because of the amount of dialogue.

+Eric Wolff They are both set in fairly remote places (Dr Finlay in Scotland and Father Ted in Ireland of course) and both look like they are set in the first half of the twentieth century. Both have characters who are sometimes frustrated by those in authority over them but Dr Finlay is pioneering. Father Ted is just daft. (I mean the characters, not the programmes).
