Welcome to free therapy with Keke and Dr. Drew! (We’re only half joking…) This week, Dr. Drew joins Keke for a transformative conversation on the mental health issues that seem to always be circulating in our world. We learn the truth on what a healthy boundary actually is, why we tend to have compassion for people who have hurt and abused us, and we open up about our own past and traumas, and how we have learned to heal. Plus, we play “Questions that NEED to be Answered” with Dr. Drew and he shares the most insane story he’s heard in his career. Get ready to take notes because we know you’ll want to remember this advice!

Wow, this was my parents. My mom was rough around the edges, and my dad was that calm. My dad was raised the same, he cooked cleaned, and sewed. My parents were married 46 years when my dad passed🙏🏾
Love Keke! Please allow your guests to speak all the way through w/o cutting them off. We love to hear what they have to say, thorough through.

It gives ADHD. I’m the same way. Not to place a mental illness on her. But i noticed once i was diagnosed in adult and did research cutting people off, finish ppl statements and feeling an overwhelming need to throw out my thoughts before i forget them in conversation is all signs. I try to work on it but it’s very hard. I literally be biting my tongue trying to work on it.

she's probably dealing with intense anxiety at the moment and ptsd, her mother is probably aware of that.
Momma Sharon looks so tired. I know it's a lot going on behind the scenes.. I'm not sure when this was recorded ...But I do hope the whole family can find peace.

Keke. Please let mama speak and finish answering your questions.
Dr. Drew talking about boundaries has me shook!! Of course, the real work is internal for you and isn’t about anyone else.
You know KeKe even though you feel like you’ve jump into love with unrealistic expectations, appreciate the fact that you’re from so much love to know when you’re not being loved the way you want to be loved, you can realize. So many grew up in chaos and abuse so when it’s reflected in their own relationships, they don’t even realize that they deserve better bc that’s how they’ve always been treated. I loved this one so much. Dr Drew was great, very refreshing honestly. I need him as my therapist 😅
9:35 i am 24 years old and mama Sharon is painting an exact picture of my life and meeting my boyfriend and his family. I feel so validated by the acknowledgment of emotional abuse and I’m currently in the breaking the cycle process!! I love y’all thank you for this episode
Firstly. I looove how Keke articulated her questions and how she carried the conversations to some great answers! I can see the growth and dedication to her growth and thirst to ,not only learn but to ask questions that herself and others can genuinely use in our lives. I love it so much! Dr. Drew was amazing with hitting all her the questions as well! Thank you guys so much for this!!!
Keke X Dr. Drew - the crossover we didn't know we needed. Great episode, looking forward to more !!!
Love the conversation with your mom. She explained that she chose the nice guy who was opposite of her because she wanted to be more like him. That was beautiful 💜
SUCH a genuine episode this is. It's amazing to see your mom speak and her AHA moment with your dad!! That is a special share to many families that don't get to see or experience witnessing that. And Dr. Drew... is like the uncle you always wanted 😂😂❤️ down to earth but so well versed in his line of work. Well done Lauren aka KEKE!!! Lol 💗💗
Keke trying to gain tools. Whatever your reaction is to someone else is usually what you've felt about yourself at one point or another... protect your inner child that first got hurt first. Seems to be a very common theme with a lot of doctors. Give folks and others more grace. Good conversation.
I love how Keke speaks to issues and intense scenarios (many of which seem to be personal) in such an openhearted, curious, but still witty way.
Babyyyyy, Dr. Drew is aging HANDSOMELY❤❤❤❤❤

I absolutely LOVEDDDDDDDD this!! 🙌🏾 We need more talk about mental health in the black community in general but especially the YOUNG black community!
My mother & father were pretty stable. They never yelled at each other. I thought everyone else was like that. Their lives were hard but they had beautiful communication. Married 75 yrs. Some weeks they weren’t close (but again, no fights in front of us five kids). I do not know how they did it. I had high expectations for my choice os men…but higher expectations of who I had to become.
Her mother reminds me of my Mother. And her father literally sounds like my step-dad who raised me since I was three..and they remained married until he passed. This is so interesting to watch.
Yes please do a series with Dr. Drew I am here for it!! Also your mom sharing her testimony was so powerful ❤️
It's so important getting to know who you're dating. Communication is so very important. Talk about the things that's important to you. And setting boundaries. Get to know each other's family. Live together after one year of dating. For at least a year before marriage.
I absolutely love this episode! Thank you bringing awareness on mental health.
Thank you for this Keke. Like your mom I grew up with a family that curses each other out. Being a millennial I noticed I cannot take being cursed out and still believe ppl love me. I've been no contact with my family for a while because I deserve to be spoken to with respect.
My heart aches knowing that the interest of keke comes from the hurt she’s been going through. However, the blessing and privilege she has to have help. And the joy for us to access this free therapy because in a way, we can all relate to or benefit from this video! Ouf!! This is really powerful.
This hit alot of questions that I’ve been wondering even with my own mental health team. I now have an agenda for key points I want to hit for my treatment plan
My cousin has something similar. She's over 40 years old and never had a boyfriend. It's because her dad treated her so well. It can go the other way.

My cousin too. She was given special treatment from her dad and he would treat her with love and attention and that’s what made her secure in herself so that’s why she didn’t need a boyfriend to validate her because she was confident and loved herself.

Not Keke with “When you do women wrong everything gets taken from you” lol 😂
Let mama speak and finish expressing a complete thought Keke ❤ I adore you, love hearing you but would be great to hear from your mum, uninterrupted.
The opener of this podcast hit hard…having the same realization at 31 with a similar paternal background and strong male figures. My parents celebrated 40 years of marriage in June and I just had this conversation with my parents. These honest conversations need to be had with younger generations!
Thank you for having this conversation, Keke and Dr. Drew!!! Y'all had me tearing up in the condiments aisle at the grocery store😢 I'm dealing with this exact issue, and Dr. Drew explained the person to a T. Not only that, it was so enlightening to hear the reasons why a person like me kicks into savior mode. Please, PLEEEEASE hurry back for convo #2!! (I fondly remember staying up late to catch Love Line on the local alternative radio station as a teen❤)
Keke, thank you for bringing these pros on and asking amazing questions - I’ve never thought of how having a typically “healthy” childhood can have its disadvantages. I’ve experienced the opposite and am now in a transitional stage where this happiness, peace, stability, and healthy love is my every day and it’s unbelievable.
Only 10 minutes in and this video already is giving soo many feelings! Your mom’s honest vulnerability is absolutely Beautiful. Thank you🙏
Keke Every time we get a notification that you have uploaded another video we get excited and can’t wait to listen to you and Sharon’s conversations it’s my favorite part of all of your videos. Sharon seems so down to earth I feel like I know her and the fact that me and you are both VIRGOS I feel like I know you as well. I love how you ladies can be so transparent and open and honest, that speaks volumes. Keep doing your thang keke!! As you once said “Another Virgo slays the day”
This was very good. Thanks KeKe for sharing a bit of your journey. Instead of acting as though a camera is watching I often pause and think of a little me watching what I’m doing and saying. I have grown immensely.
I’m here for Dr. Drew. Have so much respect for him.
Mrs. Palmer not only has self awareness, she has such strong communication skills. Gen X, we are different.
❤MAN I thought I REALLY LIKED AND ENJOYED YOUR MOM but OMG I I LOVE HER , I felt Her tonight 🌸🫣🥰 Thank You For Sharing Ms Sharon ✨🙏🏽
I never not nan once ever tire of this woman.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING CONVERSATION I took so many notes and I cannot wait to do my homework. You know its yo girl, Keke Palmer!
I understand where keke mom was coming from we do the same thing in our family, we speak our mind say what we want and do not care about each other feelings, my husband teach me a different way and his family was so nice and i love how him and his brothers and sisters care about each other and love on each other, i said i wanted that for myself and our family and my husband show me a different way, we were together for 24 year before he passed and i still carry what he teach me and try to teach my family as well,
This was awesome. I shared it with everyone. So many times I can’t put the words to what I feel. This is it. Been to therapy … talked about boundaries but was NOT explained like this!👏🏾🙏🏾
This was needed. I needed to hear this.thank you all

Definitely relate to Ms. Sharon's family dynamic. Trying to stay out the "mix," but the toxicity breeds codependency.

I wish Keke wouldn’t cut her mom off so much. She’s full of wisdom and I’m sure it wasn’t malicious but interrupting while someone is sharing their experiences or feelings can come off insensitive. Maybe she’s heard the stories before but we haven’t. I think also with what Keke has and is going through it would’ve been nice for her to reflect how growing up in a positive household translated when she started dating and what part subjected her to what she’s experiencing currently. I don’t suggest in real time just for her sanity but maybe circle back on it.
@Colourmechoco
8 ай бұрын
She had to keep time, and keep her mom on tract. It wasn't personal. You not hearing the stories isn't really going to take priority over her making sure she is on time for her guest. She also is very private and protective of her mom, so its normal to have her mom take some time to herself. She probably already reflected on those things, shes not going to share how it effects her currently when she is in an ongoing case, and shes very vocal about keeping her love life and discord under wraps. Something that her mom has instilled in her fiercely. As she should. Shes a celeb and its not our business.
@jadey0428

@@ColourmechocoI don’t think it’s personal at all which I think I made clear but regardless on any podcast not just this one …I want to hear what both parties have to say. Her being private is valid and I think we all know that BUT she’s sharing and most importantly Sharon was sharing something from her life. The logistics of the show and needing to be on time for guest is fine but I said what I said. Celebrities are people and don’t owe anyone anything lol I didn’t say SHE BETTER TELL US WHY NOW… I just shared my thoughts like we all can.
@Colourmechoco

@@jadey0428 The show is edited and both parties consented. But the comment did lack some empathy for keke because the comments are calling her rude for really just editing out things, or moving the show along. Her mom wasn't the highlight of this episode she was an intro and a good one at that. I think people on the internet tend to make too many assumptions about people and their relationships, and while you can, you definitely should be more mindful about how you come off. Especially since keke can read this stuff. Mindfulness is really key.

I agree with you. I felt she cut her mom off each and every time she was going to express herself. That segment was gard for me to get into simply because it felt one-sided, irregardless to the time restraint. Those logistics were worked out, I'm sure, prior to the actual recording.
Hey Virgo sista you did that! Keep on healing, one day at a time. Praying for you in that industry. Keep doing the work.

I'm in EMDR therapy now. It is DEEP. It's challenging. It is redeeming. It's a healing balm. It's a doorway to freedom.
Keke Palmer is such a role model!! I desperately want to find a licensed therapist that can give me the tools to break personal cycles but don’t know where to look. Does anyone else struggle with wanting to see a therapist, but feel frozen with so many options and decision fatigue?
This was a great conversation!
That intro, Sharon!! 😂 love mama Sharon

Sister mother ms keke mam. This was super intelligent, insightful, vulnerable, proactive and restorative. Tank you for modeling this moment and teaching us an example of ways that we may observe adaptive behavior, a way to approach “the work” we need to do for healing and growth.
