The story of American history cannot be told without telling the story of how African-American contributions have shaped its history. In this episode of Record West Virginia, we tell the story of how a man went from the coal mines of Fayette County to the halls of Harvard University on his way to become The Father of Black History. This week we tell the story of Dr. Carter G. Woodson.

Thank you for creating this video of Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson. So rich in history, what a Great Man to spotlight others and to make their contributed achievements known and public. Though he was born to former slaves he became Great to create Black History week as the month of February, and to become The Father of Black History, through the writing of the Diaspora of Africans being removed from their homeland. Thank you for sharing this is so needed for all mankind

Great video! What a fascinating and impressive figure. Interesting to hear how West Virginia played a role in the events of his life. History is very important and equally so are the people who tell those stories, document that history and promote the learning of it. History isn't known unless it's told and historians like Dr. Woodson are instrumental in that. I love hearing about historical events, but I think people and biography style documentaries are what interest me most - so this was a very good episode. Nicely done!

I agree. People are really what makes history important and I think also makes it relatable and interesting. We will have a couple more biographical episodes before the first season ends.

@appalachian oddity I agree....I luv biography style documentaries. I watch "ALOT" of documentaries on amazon....netflix....hulu..n youtube. I'm ADHD so its hard for me to sit still long enuff to watch anything bt wen it comes to certain documentaries...I NVR have any problems.
Great coverage. A great man. The original man plays a part in world history. Father of Pan Africanism.
