Amazing podcast! Please keep these coming. Another intellectual you should invite is Dr Zeeshan Ahmed (xLums, xKSBL, xAl-Qadir University) currently the VC of Al-Ghazali University.

Personalities like Dr Zaman should lead our education system. But unfortunately we have all the bums ruling the education system. I wish some day he can be the Chair of higher education and be involved in key policy making related to curriculum otherwise our children will have to pay the price.

I've seen many columns of Sir but honnestly this was one of the best podocast, I've ever seen. The more you got all these lavishes and man-made successes the more your soul are detached.

Mumzamil, as you are planning to move to UAE, and even otherwise, this podcast needs to be uploaded with different subtitles e.g., english, chineese, russian, arabic etc Please consider asking your team to invest some time in creating such copies of this podcast. It will be great to see Mr. Asad Hasan sitting with you in discussion with English, Chinese, Russian and Islamic Scholars in series of podcasts.

@Muzamil I think you should have a whole complete series with Sir. OMG, the last 5 mins where impactful, I could see how deeply you were moved by his response as well. Dr Shb appears to have a youtube channel, please encourage him to revive it now. Its time for him to revamp it. Most of his videos are 8 years old in that channel.

this was a fantastic session , Dr.Asad is a fascinating , erudite , thoughtful gentleman . It is obvious he would be a great teacher , by the way he explains things in this interview. Keep it up Muzammil , great questions and interactivity which was thoughtful and showed you were well prepared.

Very insightful discussion, Dr. Zaman was very erudite in explaining some complex topics, would love to hear more from him. Only suggestion, please keep the questions concise and to the point, sometimes the context you build for the question is too long and makes the podcast unnecessarily long.

That is not what happened lol. U cant expect someone to ideologically assimilate oneself to a people just because he gained something from them. If anything what u suggested is itself contradictory as what u suggest is itself against independent and critical thought

@@burhanahmad2825 I agree, I may have mis communicated myself. My point was that everybody should have the independence to experiment with different cultures and school of thoughts and then one can settle done with some belief system. Moreover, in our country, there are too much biases and strong opinions and room for independent thought and expression is missing. A good example I think would be Jinnah and Iqbal who had seen that done that and then their belief system and thought process was so firm that they self actualised their personalities. Our respectable guest is also one of those people who have finally chosen their final path. Nevertheless, intolerance and bigotry in our society is so rampant and common that it’s a huge uphill battle to have a contrarian thought.

This session was way to short for the level of detail every concept required and even as a whole. So, I would suggest ka you invite him again, and talk to him on a relatively important topic and conversate on it in greater detail... I am not sure if it is best but I am sure something related to this suggestion will be helpful for everyone.

Wonderful guest .. he would have lot to share if host would not take too much time to ask questions , some time I get confused who is taking interview and who is giving

A humble suggestion for Mr. Hasan. Please let the guest speak. Dr. Zaman does not have a personality like some of your other guests where you just sat in aw and let the guests speak. Mr. Hasan normally is good about letting guests speak but with Dr. Zaman- he was out there.

57:00 What most people also don't probably know that countries like South Korea, Taiwan(assuming it's a country) and Singapore which are today considered "free democracies" experienced their highest growth when they weren't democracies. And that's because the authoritarian government could implement reforms very fast. Only after growing at fairly high rates for 30 years or so, the change from Authoritarian governments to democracy happened because the growth had slowed down to fairly low percentages. Many people don't understand that "Democracy" is a luxury. It's usually unaffordable by poorer countries. So, the lectures from the West and all the "indexes" that they publish are tools to control countries like India and Pakistan. If India does grow and achieve the status of a high-income country, it will be the first full democracy to do so.

Pakistan isn't a democracy. Its a hybrid regime of sorts where politicians have very little space to work. You could have authoritarian regimes back in the 1960s with the cold war going on and new media being much smaller than today. Democracies or not, what sets progress is one word.... trade. Countries with liberalized economies tend to progress. India got it right when it abandoned the Nehru model of economics. Let the people engage in trade and commerce and you will find your equilibrium and then progress from there. That is India. That is Bangladesh. It has to do with competence which is non existent in a place like Pakistan. Pakistan has had authroirtian rulers and democracies and the economic progress is roughly the same. The only thing that keeps Pakistan afloat is US aid. When $ flow in, things look better as in the 1960s, 1980s and then in the 2000s. When the US turns off the tap, all hell breaks loose. The basic fallacy here is the expectation that the govt. is the solution to the ills. Govt. is the problem. Functioning govts. empower people to make their decisions and don't try to control the economy. Free movement of goods and labor and capital is what is required. This is what India did, this is what Bangladesh is doing. This is what China is. Authoritarian or not, till the govt. decides to empower it's people and not try to control the economy, such crisis will continue happening. There is a severe lack of competence and long term planning. The establishment is about here and now and so is the entire society.

@@arunsar7893 The radical reform that is the prerequisite to economic progress lies in having rule of law aka an independent and functional judiciary and secure property rights. That problem of authoritarianism it tends to become a self sustaining mechanism where more authority leads to even more authority and it tends to interfere with the rule of law and property rights most of the time. Once you establish these 2 conditions, authoritarian or democratic becomes irrelevant. The radical reforms that tend to work is empower people and reduce the size of government when it comes to trade, movement of goods, labor and capital. Pakistan is a quasi authoritarian state. Govt. is too involved in the business of business. For every successful authoritarian leader, there are 10 authoritarian leaders who have brought ruin to their people. Africa is the poster child of it.

Watched the whole episode , massive respect fot the leanred guest and his journey is marvellous. Nonetheless , there are many insufficiently answered queries. There could have been no other bettwr peeosn to reapond to the questions of islamic exonomic system but the answers were cursory and hypothetical. Especially the response to crypto question was a lot shallow and conspirational in nature. When we mix religion a lot with mudnane knowledge such amalgamtion occurs. But still it was good learning lsitening to the talk and go through diverse concepts and ideas covered in fhd talk.

Good content. My tip would be to ask short crisp and meaningful questions from the worthy guests. Make peace with the fact that no one is interested in your worldview.

Thought provoking. A little sad too, a lot of very learned people understand the need to have a system made for us. But no one seems to know what that is. I agree with Muzammil on that opinion that maybe the factor behind is the polarized view of religion and science/economics/etc.

These episodes are definitely will made the minds to change for educated and intellectuals. But the authorities, politicians and bureacrates will not like to listen such lessons and never will understand. They work only for their own personal goals. Already the state of education, the schools institutions have deteriorated themselves for short term gains. This situation is very difficult to reactivate.

I really appreciate this podcast. Best in Pakistan IMO. But I feel here that you didn't let the guest speak. He was fascinating and he had a lot to offer and I think you could have done a better job in giving him the space to speak at length. Just something I felt that was lacking. Really love this podcast though. Keep up the good work!
