I've watched many knee videos, but am I glad I found you!! Tomorrow I'm 7 weeks out and been getting discouraged despite excellent physical therapists and surgeon. Everything you said described my situation perfectly 🥰. I don't know how to thank you for being so clear and concise to us patients going through this. I love my surgeon, but wish you were my Doc!!!

between the 4 months pre-op and post-op I've been watching YT videos THIS has been the best I have been able to relate to. Doc, everything you covered pertained to my experience. Most of all, you kept on saying "this is normal" it doesn't always stay this way. Thank You

I’m six weeks out today. I’ve been sleeping well for a couple of weeks. I do feel tired by mid afternoon and take a short nap. I did 30 min on the elliptical machine at the gym this past weekend. I’m walking each evening. Still feels tight after sitting for a while.

Great info, sleep is a nightly “tragedy”, up 2-4 times each night. Few surgeons tell the real story, sleep is a disaster each night, only patches of sleep. I was so happy to go from up 4 times a night to up only twice a night, but still with pain-take tylenol before bed, and get 2-3 hiurs, then up, then 1/2 hrs. then up again, then last short sleep. Gruesome, but slightly improved sleep this week.

That was so helpful. I am only 4 weeks after surgery tomorrow afternoon and I admit I am not a patient person. I am 73. This was really the first surgery I have ever had except for meniscus tear/bone spur on the same knee about 8 years ago. Since then I have done steroid shots, artificial cartilage, even stem cell injections hoping to avoid surgery. Tightness and trouble sleeping are my main issues. I drove at two weeks. It is my left leg. Was given Percocet but didn’t need much. I am strong and active. One mistake I made was having home health care the first three weeks. They were always complimenting me and pleasant to chit chat with but they certainly didn’t push me as far as exercise. Now I am at a good PT location three times a week. Darned if I didn’t break a tooth about two days after surgery. It is not painful but it is an upper left canine tooth so I am starting the process of getting a bridge made tomorrow. I will take the medicine my knee doctor wants me to but could put it off. It doesn’t look very nice when I smile but of course I am more concerned about my knee than my vanity. Carole

This was so comforting. Phew, I’m doing alright. Sleep is sometimes absent, and my body temperature seems to swing between too hot and too cold at night. This is my second knee replaced, starting 3 months after the first one was replaced. The swelling was less, but the pain more longer lasting at the hellish level this time. Odd. My theory is having both knees still healing means the pain is cumulative. My symptoms can be wildly variable: agony one day and better the next. It’s hard to exercise and not overdo it, creating more inflammation and pain. I see my surgeon tomorrow for the 6 week check-up, and this video has given me some good ideas about how to prepare for the visit. Thank you!
