@understandingag, Dr Alen Williams; love your message and approach & integrity. Just a suggestion- somehow the 'soil is sand, silt & clay' no longer fits with your and our message about soil : about a dynamic living system that with billions of living organisms that we're regenerating through working in synchrony with nature by the management principles and practices adaptively applied to the land. Which stimulate ecosystem functioning and productivity. Thanks guys.

all soil is based in silt, sand, and clay (find me one that isn't). So the principles of building organic matter, promoting biology in the soil, and keeping it covered with (preferably) a photosynthesizing plant apply everywhere. The exact way you go about that changes slightly based on your climate and soil base (just as the exact mix of diverse biology and plants change), but not so drastically that you can't apply the concepts. They say that "soil is soil" because there's a lot of farmers and academics who keep claiming their approach to agriculture can, effectively, "only work on Brown Ranch". If you follow the principles, you can achieve equal or better results than they have been in ND (especially if you have a longer growing season and more rainfall).

@wildrangeringreen thanks I think we're largely on the same page. In many parts of the world the dominant view of soil for the past 60 years has been simply of a physical substrate that you loosen up with tillage and apply inputs like fertilizer, seed and ag-chems to in order to produce a crop. That's what many ag- colleges and the ag-business sector have propagated. Allen and Gabe have played a role in shifting that for many producers

I am not a farmer or anyone with credentials worth speaking about. I worked in the construction and operations industries before my retiring. I find it interesting that we are always seeking to develop and implement what was called innovative technologies. Often these were falsely advertised because the technology existed for decades in another field or application. It’s the presentation that sells. Bull Shit baffling brains so to speak. We love what sounds good! We love it so much that we often don’t require proof. Interesting Regenerative farming to me is basically doing what if left alone nature has done forever. Of course nature has been so altered that we can only attempt to mimic it these days. I really enjoy the approach and only wish I was younger and able to get more personally involved. I do enjoy these talks.
