Thank you for sharing ,this helped me to get started with mine.....mine has a slight fault Though,its analog meter can not be adjusted to zero,it stops at 5 on the bottom scale...something mechanical with it...othervise it works...It feel the background radiation! Cheers/Stephan Höglund

Weaponsandstuff93 Radiation's measured in different units too now, isn't it? I remember watching a documentary about Chernobyl and even two days after the explosion, people were still going about the town doing their business as normal while soldiers with suits and geiger counters were walking around town picking up nearly 700 rontgeons more than usual background radiation.

jamiemcf1 Yeah modern detectors use uSV, which is different from Roentgens but the CPM on Geigers no matter the type is very similar.

Weaponsandstuff93 You dont need alfa detector. It's okay to have just simple mask on your face. Alpha is dangerous only when you get source of it inside your body.

Hi Great informative video thanks... I also have the the same DP66 M but think I have problems, when I turn the dial to RH 0.5 after two seconds the needle swings hard right and emits a low hissing sound from the speaker.. is this Normal? all else seems to function Ok (eg detects thorium etc.)

My only guess is there is some sort of radioactive material stuck in the probe, so as soon as it's turned on it begins detecting it.

@@Weaponsandstuff93 Thanks for that..i don't think that's the problem as it doesn't make any clicks, just a hissing sound.. and it functions normally on the lower mR/H Scale. ?

Cool vid. I have one too but the needle doesn’t spring into the k area when I actually turn it on. Any idea why?

It's the battery test, so your batteries are flat or the wrong type etc

Is polish geiger counter, i front Polish. Is best geiger counter. Pozdrawiam z polski, piękny licznik to jest naprawdę stara polska robota :)

I have seen many of these AND the DP-75 with completely burned out display coils. I have no idea why this is, but its weird.

Strange no idea really I guess maybe being left on for ages or something? Soviet DP-5 series is certainly tougher although I personally really like my DP-75 for it's range.

The probe? Lots of Geiger counters came with different model probes, do you have a pancake probe?

Yours could be a DP-66 instead of the modernized DP-66M. The DP-66 has a silver colored beta shield with slots on it.

***** they dont work on smoke alarms. Smoke alarms contains Americium or Plutonium but that isotope emiting only alfa radiation. You need special dosimeter to check alfa radiation lvl, because normal paper sheet will stop alfa radiation.

@@michastrzelec4846 Americium puts out a bit of gamma, as well - certainly still detectable without an alpha sensetive probe

The knob on the left of the device is a calibration. Turn the meter to K and turn it until the pointer lines up with the triangle in the middle of the red band , then you're ready to measure . The lower scale is for the 0-200r/h setting only and reads r/Hr as it is the measure for the ionization tube that is next to the Geiger tube

That is false, it has nothing to do with calibration. It is used for charging the DKP-50 dosimeters. I have read the original polish manual.

my geiger counter just broke... it does not work anymore :'((((((((

I would love just to have it in a glass case. and collect other surplus items. Just dont test that "secret sauce". at mcdonalds it might melt that machine : )
