Dozens of people were killed after the remnants of Hurricane Ida hit the US northeast including New York on the night of September 1, 2021. The National Weather Service issued New York City’s first-ever flash flood emergency as rain and floodwater turned streets and subway tunnels into rivers. Many homes were also flooded.

When this happened in China people laughed and said it was karma. Western media pointed out the bad Chinese drainage systems. China got 3x more rainwater in that amount of time. Now western media is talking about huge climatic disaster when NY is hit by the same flash floods. My prayers go to the victims and hopefully this will make people understand climate change knows no boundaries or race...

@@skygge1006 Hurricanes and tropical storms gain more power from warm water in the ocean and quickly lose that power over land. Also, Storm surges keep costal cities from draining properly so even if there is a few inches of rain, there is a lot of places that are many feet deep in water. None of that stuff applies to the cities that are farther inland because they all drain into nearby rivers. We just have to watch out for rivers overflowing their banks and those people and towns that decided at their own peril to live very close to those rivers.

Take example of Indonesia, it have flood in Jakarta every New Year, Philippine having tropical storm with great power at least 1-3 per years cause floods. China flooding on rivers, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India got storm making coast line flooded, Netherland coastline flooding, This type of storm can be normal due to we have a much greater storm at ancient time and we had this kind of intensity atleast 1-3 every years.

I remember hurricane ida. I was sitting on my bed when I heard a screeching noise outside. I looked outside the window, and I saw a table and chairs flying off the neighbor's fire escape. They landed in the street and got carried along with the floodwater. I got some candles and put them on the table in the dining room to light if the power went out. Then, the wind picked up, and because the window was open a few inches to get fresh air the day before, the window screen started whipping around violently. A couple seconds lated, the window screen broke and wind came flying into the apartment. Everything in the room that weighed less than a pound started flying. Rain started pouring into the room, and I ran down to the lobby of the apartment. That was a mistake. My apartment is on a hill, and the water was rushing down the sidewalk into the lobby. I heard an odd whooshing noise, and when I got down to the bottom few stairs, water flew into the lobby. Furniture started floating around, and the water was going up quickly. By the time I got to the stairs, there were around 7 inches. When I arrived in my apartment again, I saw that the living room was in complete disarray: papers and books were all over the floor, and water was pouring over the window sill. I'll never forget that day for as long as I live.

Luckily we got on the highway way before the tornados hit Nj and got to Albany around 11:30. Albany wasn't really getting hit though. Aside from a couple of rain showers.
