This is THE most unsung, under appreciated, sings-so-good-it-makes-you-wanna-slap-yo-mamma, guitar playing, bad ass musician on the planet & it makes me sick that more people don't lift him up to the place he deserves to be. My husband & I have been HUGE fans for many years....since the Arc Angels first album when we both singled him out of the entire group as the badass of the band (we love double trouble, but DB2 is just all that! ha ha) & have followed his music since then. The one time we went to see him live was at Stubbs in Austin, with the Arc Angels, in like 2004 or 2005 & it rained like crazy! It was like March or so & it was COLD, but we stood out in the rain without coats or jackets & had a blast listening to him play & sing. We've always wanted to see him with HIS band , doing his music, but have never had the chance. For those of you that don't know who he is or have never heard his music (other than this video), PLEASE buy his albums (any &/or ALL of them) & really listen to, appreciate, & help raise this massively talented musician to where he deserves to be!

I have seen Doyle 4 times now. The first time I saw him was in 2007 I believe in Greensboro where he played a small theater, as part of the Piedmont blues festival. He had his own band (3 piece) and they were red hot and real as music gets. He wasn't all about he look at me showmanship. He performed in Blue Jeans and a plain white T shirt. He is the most gifted player I have seen up close. There is magic in his hands and he waits on it. He doesn't try to create out of thin air. He can play fast but what he does is open up his psyche and let the music come to him. He can sound like about any of the great blues players, but there has been a time during each show where his eyes are shut and I get the sense he is channelling Jimi Hendrix. Not trying to be better than anyone else, but just being authentic as a musician. He learned his craft in Texas around SRV and Albert King, etc. When he plays with Clapton he is very professional and largely stays in the shadows. What he plays as a rhythm player makes Clapton sound eminently better in my opinion. When Clapton did summon him forward in the show I saw, he played a scalding 45 second break, and all Eric could do was smile because it was astounding to everyone. Then he went right back to doing his job as a professional musician serving the song. A true professional, he does not always have to show you how good he is.... he plays to the song and the song gives the music back to Doyle. If you ever see him close up doing his own thing you will never forget it. In my opinion, his best format is with and outstanding bass player and drummer who are also committed to serving the song... His playing is built for the 3 piece. He does great power pop, rock, and killer blues in that format, much like Hendrix or Creem did in the late 60's early 70's.... But it is authentic.. he doesn't try to copy or steal from them at all...

Was lucky enough to catch Doyle on tour with Clapton in 2007. His playing was one the many highlights of a great show. His solo during "Got to Get Better" Damn near blew the roof off the place. Outstanding talent. Unique and unpredictable style make him one of the great contemporary players on the scene. Mix in his soulful vocals and diverse writing abilities and this guy is the total package. Should be far more commercially successful , but he wouldn't be the first mega talent to be ignored in favour of crap that passes for "music" these days.

I'd have to say he looked. sounded and (most importantly) played a lot better when I saw him with Waters and also when I saw him with Clapton. This is still great but he just doesn't seem to be as .... well, good...?

I hear you. I love DBII, and have seen him numerous times. While it's still great, he's kind of developed this droning, lower-note, warble thing over the years. Back in the day, his solos had a lot more of that signature TX Blues attack. I know we all age, but he's looking pretty rough, too. Hopefully, just the rigors of the trade, and not a by product of drugs/booze.

I'd have to disagree. DB2 is just an extremely versatile player. He's gone through these "mutations" over the years, and I love every one of them. He is also a very underrated singer. Beautiful, soulful voice with feeling. He does look a little ragged, though. He conquered addiction, and I, too hope he's in good health.
