Downy Wrinkle Releaser vs My Steamer

Not sponsored by Downy but, surprisingly, I would recommend this. Update: My husband and I ordered more and are still loving this for his clothing.

I just love that you take the time to compare things like this. I did read the directions on the Downey Spray & it says to LIGHTLY spray. So you may have wet them a little too much which gives the garments a chance to re wrinkle where the fabric sort of folds as it drys. Thx so much sweetie.

I have a Home Touch PS-200 steamer that I bought off of a Facebook group for $25 and retails new over $100. It is a "professional steamer" but for me it shuts off too quickly. I like to take lots of photos at once and then sit down and list from all of the photos and I can only get through about 5 garments or so before it shuts off and I have to reset it. I, too, only use distilled water in a steamer, but i know a lot of people like tap water (ours just has too much chemicals in it for me to feel comfortable with taking a chance at clogging it up.) I enjoy watching videos of comparisons (the Bin Pickers compared Oxi-Clean to Biz that I found interesting, too...by the way, Oxi-Clean won!) Thanks again for taking one for the team and trying it out for us. I think I will save my money and stick with my "too-soon-to-turn-off" steamer!

Be sure to check your wall for that same sticky spray residue. We don't spray items anymore. Steamer for the win!

I buy my wrinkle release spray from Dollar General. Cheaper and DG brand. I spray shirts as they come out of the dryer. I do not use as much as you did. It is not as good as ironing, but it makes the shirts very presentable and wearable.

Of course it all differs from person to person, but apparently, with Plus, you don’t need to apply as much, because the sprayer itself is wider (sprays even more than the usual one) - Which is what is supposed to be the difference between the original and the Plus - Also the dry time is much shorter as well (since you don’t need as much) 🙈☺️ I’ve used it now for a few months (came across it by complete randomness 6 months ago), and I’m super happy, because I have tons of different button down shirts that I wear on top of t-shirts and tank tops, and they were usually always wrinkly, and I never had the patience to iron them, so they always remained that way, even after being washed 🙈 But not anymore - Now they’re constantly wrinkle-free🙈😄 I would also recommend ‘flowing’ the clothing lightly with your hand inside the t-shirt/top/button down shirt/jacket/skirt, instead of pressing down on it

Since some buyers have sensitivity towards scents.. wouldnt that downy leave behind a scent? Many sellers say they wash their items with unscented detergent and to never use Fabreeze to take away odors.. I do have a steamer maybe I should get it out and use it.Instead of standing and ironing dozens of items.lol

At home- I pull clothes immediately from dryer and hang what I want to be wrinkle free. So, I dont know why anyone irons now🤔? In the old days, ppl hung clothes outside. If clothes are wrinkled coming out of the dryer, you are putting too many clothes in the washer.

Smart! I know growing up that we had "church clothing" which my mom would iron. But I can honestly say that I don't own an iron at this point of my life. If something is too wrinkly out of the dryer, it has no place in my life. ;)

Very surprised the Downy worked on the denim hem! My thoughts were, that needs ironed! Would spraying plain water work just as well as the Downy? That's what I do for getting wrinkles out of clothes I'll wear the next day. Spray with water and hang to dry overnight. No pulling, rubbing, tugging.

I was wondering the same thing Sara! I would think maybe water and fabric softener might do the same thing? Not sure. I specifically wanted to try out the Downy because I've seen others use it on Instagram and KZread. I know sometimes my husband & I throw a washcloth size wet rag in the dryer with our personal items and that seems to help wrinkles.

I have been trying the Downy spray also!..Not a big fan, although it was awesome for dewrinkling 5 linen Pottery Barn drapes (hard to steam such big items). I put the drapes on my outdoor clothesline and sprayed with the downy. Worked great and I felt better about all the spraying outdoors! For clothing, I definitely prefer steamer! Great video!

It is a bit tacky/sticky when it is wet but it doesn't leave anything but the scent behind when it is dry. The scent is a deterrent for me but I don't like the scent of laundry detergent too much. My closet has a bunch of white, black, gray and olive green in it with just one or two pale pink shirts thrown in. But the majority is aqua. :)

What I like to use the wrinkle release spray for is anything lightweight like blouses or dresses. Definitely not anything with much weight to it, even some t-shirts are too heavy but thin t-shirts yes. Otherwise my steamer is my go-to. Also, I spray lightly then I shake the item to allow the wrinkles to just release. Have a fab weekend!

We can't get this product in the UK, but I make my own : about a tsp of your favourite fabric softener in every third of a cup of water . Use a fine nozzle spray . Good for travelling but prefer iron/steamer at home .

Mellissa it's not my recipe - I googled it lol. Bear in mind I'm using UK fabric conditioner but I think as long as folks are careful and test it first, it's well worth a try . Apparently it just relaxes the fibres which lets the crease drop out.

I am only at the linen shirt and already think hands down for the steamer. As you said, the cost, the potential residue, the chemicals that you are breathing in, the wait time to allow for drying, potential smell that may develop on the way to the customer while in plastic AND now you said your floor is sticky! I say no to Downy wrinkle release. Guess what I am so old school that I used an iron. It is the super professional rowenta that sits on a water tank...making really an iron and a steamer. I am so strange that I actually like to iron...weird I know!
